How it was possible than an educated, thriving, beautiful society like this descended into the horrors of war.

Germany in the late 1800s experienced rapid industrial growth, but the population still had an adolescent-like love and admiration of all things military and an inferiority complex vis-a-vis Great Britain and France.

The lives of people in Europe and elsewhere were calm and stable, disturbed by wars that change everything beautiful in societies and turn happiness into tragedy. Who is keen to ignite wars without justification on many occasions? Does anyone have an answer?

For example, Dresden will no longer look like it did then. Many of the squares look drab, with uninspired façades and store names that provide historical information but add to the sense of jumble.

Mass aerial firebombing followed by reconstruction from scratch can do this. On the other hand, the Germans leveled Warsaw in 1944 to crush the Free Polish Army's attempt to finally kick the Nazis out before the Russians got there -- Stalin actually even ordered the Red Army to halt its advance for two weeks in order to allow the Germans to first crush the Poles since Stalin knew the Polish Army was anti-Communist and cynically allowed the Germans to destroy them for him before the Red Army finally began advancing again to destroy the German forces on the Eastern Front and push to Berlin. Yet after the war, the Poles were able to reconstruct a large number of the destroyed buildings to look like they were before the war using archived photographs as architectural guides.

Vielen Dank für die schönen Bilder! Leider dreht sich mir als Hamburgerin der Magen um, wenn ich fast durchgehend bayrische Musik hören muss, und am Ende auch noch dieses Jazz- Gedudel....

Wonderful pictures-love the colors! The fashions were lovely. I wonder what they did (if anything) about all the horse poo in the streets. 🤔

Two city sparrows share a horse apple in the street. Suddenly one of them says: "Hey, I heard a new joke today!" - "Well, alright, but nothing disgusting during the lunch, please ..."

*It seems like everything was better and more beautiful before. I'm a woman and I see how women's fashion has sadly declined, clothes and behavior were much more feminine and decent back then. Women are becoming more ugly...and superficial every day. I was born in the wrong time. The current era definitely doesn't suit me.* 🥲

It's up to you to be different. You don't even need fashion and inhibitions of yesterday to be what you want to be. But it's necessary to stay the same and to be predictable once you made your decision. Elegance is timeless and surprisingly simple, always following the same recipe and never losing its impact on alert people.
