Russia is very dangerous. Don't underestimate them. At the moment they are doing what is called "shaping the battlefield" in Bahkmut and around there. There are 3 lines of Ukrainian defenses and 2 have been broken. What they are doing is slowly grinding away at the Ukrainians to break down defenses. Then you'll see a massive attack and a big sudden loss of territory for Ukraine. The Rusians have a 4.5:1 population advantage. After that expect an attack from Belarus to cut Ukraine of from Poland. The tanks are likely too late. Ukraine needs Tomahawks to sink the remainder of the black Sea Fleet NOW which can shoot 44 Kalibr kssiles at Ukraine. It needs ATACMS and Tomahawks NOW to destroy the Kerch Bridge NOW. There is no time to wait for GLSDB and Tanks. This is going to be over in 3 months or less for Ukraine unless some blows are inflicted on Russia. There is no time. They're exhausted.

Yes, a modern battle formation is tanks with infantry (and their vehicles), supported by artillery and air forces. What we have seen mostly so far is tanks being used as artillery pieces i.e. sitting somewhere and letting off some rounds.

Ever seen the Bundeswehr playing with broom handles? Or on a British exercise in Denmark where mine tape had to be laid in the shape of trenches and grown men stand in imaginary trenches firing imaginary rounds (Because there were no blanks and there was no oil to clean the weapons with afterwards) and shout bang bang you're dead. The mine tape was utilized as we were not allowed to dig holes in a conservation area! I kid you not. One corporal, as the staff came round pretending to be useful prior to going for a jolly good meal at a local hostelry courtesy of the taxpayer no doubt, and in reply to some foreign officer saying you have just been overflown by 2 recce aircraft (they were real at least) you have been compromised and will take no further part in the exercise until midday. This corporal responded, "Are you talking about those multi million pounds worth of aircraft flying overhead currently sir?" "Yes" - Came a terse and not accustomed to being questioned by a lower rank rang out. "They don't exist sir, we shot them down yesterday but you weren't here to see it". "Do you have any form of air defence here" Came an upper class and suitably languid enquiry from a British RAF officer on their team. "Yes, indeed we do sir" He picked up a pole and holding one end against his chest swept the sky with the other end menacing the clouds whilst making boom, boom, boom noises. A N Other foreign officer said something along the lines of but that is not real AAA. The corporal, now really enjoying himself said "Very perceptive sir but I'm stood in a pretend trench which means you started this bollocks" They turned on their collective heels and a Canadian officer leaned toward the corporal muttering as he walked pass. "Pure fucking class man that will get me free drinks back home" The young corporal was then brought to earth by his S/Sgt reprimanding him publicly and putting him in charge of latrine emptying for that evening. On return to the UK at the end of this farce, a couple of weeks later, the corporal was called before his Officer Commanding and was asked what happened. The major had a chuckle and reached into his drawer and pulled out an envelope. In it was a note which just read "Pure fucking class" The OC handed the corporal a ten pound note which he explained he had been remunerated by "A senior Canadian officer" and asked if he could reward the quick wit of somebody who should have gone to the brig but was instead being sent to the bar. The OC reached for his hat and said "Well come on then, you're about to invite me into the Corporal's mess". The corporal, him and the S/Sgt who had the corporal cleaning shithouses went and spent the rest of the afternoon in some ritualistic male bonding. That was in the 'mid '70's. Still in touch with that S/Sgt but only ever saw that Major once again as two days later I was on a Hercules going somewhere else on the planet. If you're still with us sir, I salute you.
