Late to the party but from what I’ve heard in various interviews/documentaries on YT, Jeremy (when he’s involved) writes the vocal melodies, Vigil records them, and Jim performs them live. Not sure if that’s the route for this song/album though but that’s how they used to do it.

As a selfish fan myself This isn't good. It's so different I don't like it. Theyre my favorite band. Ever. This is very safe as you put it. That breakdown was soft. I'm sad. I'm disappointed. Positives: I heard some tid bits reminiscent of Andrew's one decade project. I liked that. I dont like the over abundance of cleans here.
