We stayed at the Myrtles a few years ago in the upstairs bedroom. I couldn’t sleep. I heard giggling and people on the stairs. We were the only people in the entire place. It was way scary. I tried to talk my husband out of staying. The next morning, I wouldn’t even stay for breakfast. The manager told me I should’ve taken out my hoop earrings before bed and I would’ve slept better. She said Chloe, the ghost, loves hoop earrings. I took my husband’s picture at the door as we were leaving, and half of his face and arm is missing in the picture, like someone is standing by him that you can’t see. It was the scariest place I’ve ever stayed. Very cool.

I grew up between Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia. My mother took me to Myrtle as part of my introduction to our family's tradition of hoodoo and rootwork and ancestor veneration when I was little. I remember her explaining the work we'd do with the chicken feet etc. displayed there. That spot definitely has some energy and many lessons to teach. Happy little surprise to see you all covering this especially now that I've been out in CO for a few years. Got me missing home and those familiar spirits! 💜 ***For the record HIGHLY suggest for anyone headed out that way [and to anything similar] cleansing before going, leaving an offering, and cleansing afterward. Some of those spirits and the energy there ain't your friend and you don't want any of that as an attachment. Show respect and leave in peace. 💜🖤💜✊🏾

I have been here 2x. I can say for a FACT this place is haunted. I've had experiences every time I've gone. When you first walk into the fouier, there's this table that has a statue, it's a green head (I know that alone sounds creepy but I don't know how else to describe it) but anyways, I had been standing back from the rest of the group in the tour. I hear this sound, it sounds like something rocking back and forth, I start to observe the other people in our tour group, a few had also noticed the sound as well. I start to look around to investigate where this noise is coming from, it was that statue rocking back and forth, by itself. This was not something that was staged. The mirror, as I said I've gone at least 2X, I'm from Mississippi and love to take the trip to Mrytles plantation whenever I can, it is a beautiful place, anyways, I've taken pictures of the mirror. On my first trip there, I didn't see anything in the mirror nor did I capture anything. But, in my second trip, I did capture the images of children in the mirror. I wish I could upload the photo to show all of you. Its really incredible. Another experience I had, I had snuck away to smoke a cigarette (I was 17 at this time and didn't want my mom to know I smoked) I was completely alone but had been pegged by rocks. I was mad at first thinking my mom or someone else had been the "culprit" but literally, I was alone. Well, until the shock had worn off and I took off running back to the group. Also, there's stories of a bed that violently moves on its on. There's deep scratch marks into the floor to support this. I heard so many stories from guests who were actually spending the night here, a lady and her son were staying in a room. The mother had just unpacked her toiletries into their bathroom, she had made note of how nice the soaps and hand towels were folded so neatly, within seconds of her stepping out of the bathroom to grab her make up out of her suitcase, upon returning, the soaps were now in the toilet and the hand towels were on the floor. I'm sure I have about 10 more experiences I could share but this comment is running long. I've made my point, Myrtles plantation is most definitely haunted and I have no doubts if your after a supernatural experience, you'll find it here. If by chance you don't, the plantation is worth the visit. It's beautiful and so serene. If you decide to stay, try booking the old slave quarters. My hairs stood on end and my ears began ringing just standing in that room. As someone whose been dragged to haunted locations all over the south by my mom (including St. Augustine lighthouse in Florida (oh that's a whole different story for a different time) I highly recommend Myrtles!

Went there for the night tour not expecting much. Needless to say that my friends and family had a handful of bizarre occurrences. I cannot speak for anyone other than myself but after the night tour you are allowed to hang out around the premises and take pictures and hang out. My father & myself decided it would be creepy to go by the gazebo that is separated by a small pound. We started recording each other just goofing off and whatnot. Once we got back home we watched the video and heard what is clearly children laughing. Mind you the entire background audio is littered with frogs, bugs, chirping and anything that makes noise in the bayou. Yet the sound of children laughing was so more clear and isolated that if you didn't know any better you would think it was poorly edited in. So this enticed me to watch a few more videos that I recorded when I came across a video that my cousin and myself recorded during daylight prior to the tour in the same spot by the Gazebo. In the video we were joking about recording EVP's when not a few seconds later you can hear a mumbled yet clear voice saying "what's an EVP?" I did not go in expecting experience and was more like a skeptic. These bizarre incidents are not the only incidents to happen that night.

I'm a hypnotherapist and Josh's voice is definitely calming. He uses a consistent tone and pacing without much variance, which causes the listener's brain waves to slow down, producing a calming and meditative effect. For me, it causes me to zone out a bit and if I haven't been consistent with my meditation practice, instead of focusing on what he's saying while in this state, I tend to get a little distracted. So for me, Joel adding in visuals and sound effects is helpful to reeling me back into the story when I've gotten a little spacey. Love you guys! :)

I live in Louisiana and I went on field trips to Myrtles several times and then once as an adult. I’ve never been uneasy while there. Louisiana is full of plantations and they’re beautiful! The culture here doesn’t fear paranormal activity unless it’s not a “pleasant” entity. People give it a bad name, but it’s a beautiful state with amazing bayous and trees.

I’m going to visit the Myrtle’s with my boyfriend this weekend. I’m re-watching this to do some metaphysical pre-gaming. The reminder that most spirits on the property are not harmful is comforting.

I'm excited you're taking about the myrtles!! Im from Louisiana so everyone knows someone with a story from this place. My aunt says when she's slept over she had the covers float over her and she said she felt someone pulling her toes! My mom has always wanted us to go and visit but lawwddd I'm not risking my life/spirit to go visit a place with weird energy no matter how historical it is. Ive always loved the story,I'm so excited to see y'all cover it!!

Just a tiny heads up, you mentioned the wife and 2 children dying in 1923 instead of 1823. I only looked it up because that sounded a bit too late time wise. Love your podcast! It's my favourite! Just wanted to let you guys know! :)
