OOOOOH this still gives me chills. That realization that it's not the Cybermen. And the way the music oh-so-sneakily transitions the Cybermen theme into the operatic epic chorus of the Daleks, and it all hits its crescendo when they actually come gliding down and start yelling that good ol' "exterminate" mantra. Epic. Plus I like the touch with the design of the Void Ship. At first we think, "Ooh, it's sleek and silvery. Doubtlessly it's Cybermen tech." Then the Daleks come out and you realize that it's modeled after the Dalek ball-things and you go "Oh my scheiße"
@notnice-96233 жыл бұрын
Personally I think they could have pulled it off better with the transition - they should have only played the Dalek theme when the Cult Of Skaro exited the Void Ship - it would have been a shock reveal otherwise.

Nostalgia is a wonderful drug, RTD's Daleks appeared and were always defeated by a very simple plot device, Moffats Daleks felt like a genuine threat.

gentarofourze yes rainbow coloured daleks is a threat,asylum of the daleks was a complete joke just like all of Moffat Dalek stories stop sucking Moffat off he’s a great writer but he makes terrible Dalek stories and by your idiotic logic classic who fans should take their nostalgia glasses of also as its older than series 1-4 complete and utter moron as your a MCCoy fan probably as your videos show stop being nostalgic as his era wasn’t that great 👍
@gentarofourze4 жыл бұрын
@@HARSA-gn1mp I'm actually a fan of all eras, it just so happened when I uploaded some clips BBC blocked most of them so I took them down. Actualluy I think RTD and Moffat are both flawed in modern Who, RTD's plots mostly consisted of 40 minutes of build up and Doctor sonic's away the threat or a similar deus ex machina, and in last 3 episodes of each series is the main plot, Moffats episodes were mostly world building and on a grander scale that had their own flaws. But are you denying that nostalgia doesn't play a part? Most people in their 20's now talk about how Tennant is their Doctor and RTD's episodes are the best. Its because its what they grew up with. And actually I was too young to watch Classic Who when it was new but watched a few repeats on UK Gold in the late 90's, mostly Pertwee and Davison episodes. I am a Sci Fi fan in general so when Nu Who started I managed to rent a few Classic dvds's. And you know what? My favourite Doctor is the 2nd despite my mum not even being a teenager when his run was on. But lets say this, in series 1 the Daleks were wiped out by a supernatural being, series 2 by simple technology, series 4 by their own technology (which was just a few button presses) The Daleks are just overused in general and overpowered so they have to be defeated by silly methods. I will also say that RTD's Daleks just felt they had overpowered tech i.e guns and shields and were themselves not that scary. Moffats Daleks felt like actual predators. By the way I never said I didn't like the 4 Daleks angle in the show I was responding to Daleks in general.
@HARSA-gn1mp4 жыл бұрын
gentarofourze Moffat daleks weren’t scary at all they were rainbow coloured power rangers asylum of the daleks was idiotic, into the Dalek was a copy of series 1 Dalek and the Capaldi 2 parter was mediocre you call them nostalgic yet you have nostalgic memories of classic who how much of an idiot are you.You claim you don’t like the RTD era daleks for actually being threatening yet praise the Moffat era daleks for being literal plastic toys which are not scary how much of a moron are you don’t you also mention they have overpowered tech yet daleks are arguably the strongest villains in doctor who you want them to be week and unthreatening or something making daleks strong make them fearful clearly your not a fan if you never remember the deus ex machina Dalek episodes from the classic series
@gentarofourze4 жыл бұрын
@@HARSA-gn1mp I never said Moffats Daleks were nostalgic, and I never said the stories were good. But what I was getting at is that RTD's Daleks are powerful "just because" which means the writers have to create some silly way to defeat them, its like Superman in comics can be cosmic level one minute then be beaten by a low level character the next. By the way I never mentioned anything about their design by the way. And I have seen most of the surviving Classic Who episodes and all Nu Who. Moffats Daleks went back to being a conquering empire with a large powerbase which is more threatening To me what you are describe is being scary, if you see a Dalek you would be scared as you knew you were basically dead if you knew the Daleks were out there building more power you would feel more threatened.

With stolen earth, it's when the unknown fleets have a message for the human race and the mic turns on and all you hear is "Exterminate, Exterminate, Exterminate" over and over, everyone knows that the Doctor has no way to find them, and the fear you see in every human who knows what they're up against.

Sure they used advanced technology, but the Daleks strike fear into all species across the universe, fighting until a stalemate with even the Timelords. The Cybermen wouldn't stand a chance. It was certainly built up in the publicity for this episode asking 'Who would win? The Daleks or the Cybermen?' But think for a moment who *does*, and it makes perfect sense; though to be fair, the Doctor couldn't have known that the psycho pepperpots were going to be the ones to come out of the sphere; and if you look at his face when the Daleks first show themselves as the inhabitants of the sphere, his expression is, if anything, resigned; 'Yeah, I didn't know it was *you* in there, but now that I DO know, I'm *hardly* surprised.' Though I always did wonder, how did the Daleks, even ones specialized as the Cult of Skaro, manage to create a void ship, when even the Time Lords couldn't? Or at least, I'm guessing they couldn't, since the Doctor mentions earlier that he thought that void ships were only a theory, that he never had heard of one actually being built before-- but then again, when the Genesis Ark is revealed later in the episode and the Doctor says he's never seen it, despite Dalek Sec specifically declaring it to be Time Lord technology the Cult stole, he says that "Both sides had secrets."
@jakerockznoodles10 жыл бұрын
The notion that the Timelords wouldn't be able to do that seems bizarre considering Rise of the Cybermen was not even the first time the Tardis has accidently drifted into another universe. If the Timelords already have technology that could essentially do what this does by accident, I'm sure they'd be capable of actually building one. I'm not even go into the ridiculous leap in time travel technology the daleks seem to have undergone here. In earlier stories the daleks had time travel tech, but it was comparatively primitive to what the Timelords used. Hell, it's been implied that the Sontarans have had similar or even better time travel capability but they weren't allowed to enter the time war because.... there was a height restriction? I dunno.
@DorianMichaelsIII10 жыл бұрын
jakerockznoodles Maybe the Daleks managed to capture (or flat-out steal) and reverse-engineer Time Lord technology? The Cult did it with that Genesis Ark-- maybe the other Daleks did too with Time Lord time travel technology (try saying THAT five times fast). It sounds like something they would do (maybe even it was the Cult that suggested it in the first place). Maybe THAT was why, by the Time War, the Daleks had technology comparable to the Time Lords (they probably would HAVE to be at least SOMEWHAT comparable, for them to give the Time Lords the fight that it is heavily implied that they did; else, why didn't the Time Lords just do something screwy with time and make sure that *Davros* never existed, let alone the Daleks he would create? It's been said that the Lords' power over time was so great, that they could erase whole *planets*, whole CIVILIZATIONS, from ever have existing-- surely one being wouldn't present the same challenge.) But then again, this is just my theory, and I admit, my knowledge of Who-lore isn't as strong as it could be, so I welcome any thoughts and/or corrections.

Mainly cause they've gotten used to seeing the "ghosts" (they've been popping up for a few months before the Doctor first found out about them) by this point. Jackie does mention earlier in the ep that when the "ghosts" first started appearing everyone was scared of them initially, but when they end up doing nothing, disappear & reappear later, everyone just assumed that the "ghosts" were friendly or even the souls of deceased loved ones. Didn't help that it was also the main cover story used by Torchwood to hide their usage of the Void Breach caused by "The Sphere" (if only they knew what the ghosts actually were or what was actually inside the sphere).

I don't really watch Who, but do like seeing the clips from time to time and this is the first time this one popped in my feed. Love how the second the Police Chief says stay in your homes, a home immediately gets breached. That's some grim comedic timing and why if I was told to stay in my home when something this sideways went down, I'd be in the woods in under a minute.

Still loving this... The "Oh god, now what?!" aspect drags you all over the place. RTD has a flair for panic scenes. The bit where it dawns on The Doctor pretty quickly that there's something else about the sphere yet to come in to play with the "What?" delivery really stuck with me - the flip from anger to surprise so quickly is a great bit of acting. Always stuck with me

Wow still gives me chills…back in the day when Doctor Who was mandatory viewing across the Northern hemisphere!!! Really hope RTD is able to recapture this sense of absolute earth-shattering importance and utterly thrilling story telling…I miss it terribly and really would enjoy having it back, or even something close to approaching this!

I still love this cliffhanger. Everybody thought they already did Daleks, so they won't be back, everybody assumed one monster per episode, then suddenly THIS. That feeling didn't happen again until Journey's End with all the companions in the TARDIS, it felt special because they were breaking the rules. Then that magic moment in Pandorica happened, and Daleks and Cybermen have been invading other episodes ever since. Cybermen got into 'Pandorica' while a Dalek got into 'Wedding of River Song', and now many different aliens are sharing the screen to kill the Doctor in 'Time of the Doctor'. It no longer feels like a crossover. It doesn't feel like they're breaking the boundaries or rules. It feels like a shared universe. I feel that is Moffat's greatest improvement of Russel T Davies series. An expansion of the universe he revived and recreated. He can even bring back Gallifrey without it feeling like a cheat. It felt earned. And it all started here.
@jarednewman78237 жыл бұрын
You do realize Daleks were there before this? As we're the Cybermen. Or did Age of Steel escape you? And they've been in multiple episodes with other Doctors as well. This isn't the first time. It's been happening since the Daleks first hit the screen in the 1960s.
@SeanWheeler1007 жыл бұрын
Well, with the Doctor being in every episode, it's already a shared universe. And the show references previous episodes. They even made up the concept of regeneration to explain different actors playing the Doctor when they retire.

this my no.1 cliffhanger, things just got worst and worst. Find out there were cybermen in torchwood, found out the ghost were cybermen and position around the world, they didn't make the void ship and to top it all off, daleks came to the party..... BEST CLIFFHANGER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

I still prefer the cliffhanger in The Pandorica Opens when Doctor's companions are dying, his greatest enemies have allied against him, the TARDIS explodes, and the universe ends, with nothing he can do about it, but Daleks...and Cybermen. I was just nine at the time, but I was overjoyed, and immediately thought back to The Five Doctors, when the Daleks and Cybermen had both appeared, but never met, and made me enthusiastic to see the ultimate showdown the following week.

Quite a connection with EastEnders here. Barbara Windsor makes a cameo as Peggy Mitchell in this episode. Both this episode and "Doomsday" feature Raji James who played Ash Ferreira and Tracy-Ann Oberman who of course played Chrissie Watts, wife and murderer of Den Watts played by Leslie Grantham. And of course Grantham himself appeared in the 1984 Doctor Who serial "Resurrection of the Daleks".
