Charismatics always seem to have a chip on their shoulders, like you’re holier than outsiders of Pentecostal faith. Scripture will always trump experiences.

Hey Stuart, you are correct, Scripture is all we need, not an experience from God. This pastor takes many Scriptures out of context, like “by his stripes we are healed”, which if you read the verses before are all talking about spiritual healing, not physical. One night I watch a woman filling in for Pastor Mike, and she said the following, “ Jesus was able to walk on the water out to His disciples in the boat because He had faith”. You read that correctly. I’ve watched over 20 sermons and this pastor has spoken incorrectly on something in every sermon. Read Acts 14:22 and tell me why God heals anyone. It’s His choice if at all. Just because you are saved by His grace, doesn’t mean God owes us anything. We are created as His servants to serve Him. Oh by the way, I came out of Pentecostal faith about 2 years ago. I’m now Reformed faith.

Thank God He does not allow Himself to be limited by loveless self-righteousness. The wonderful testimonies of Muslims turning from Islam to Jesus, because the Lord came to them, spoke to them and their lives changed radically. Without EVER having read a Bible. They heard the Voice, saw the great Light ( not His face) and immediately they knew who He was. These men and women instantly turn to Him, willing to die for Him. Loving Him selflessly. The amazing thing is that they crave reading the Bible after that. A bit upside down, isn’t it? But God does whatever He wants.

This message is so great! Very helpful to counter all of the erroneous “hearing God’s voice “ teachings infecting the church. God’s Word is sufficient. He speaks to us all on a personal level from the Scriptures. There is no extra-biblical revelation today because we don’t need it. As Justin Peters says, if you wanna hear God speak to you, read your Bible. If you want to hear God speak to you audibly, read your Bible out loud. I’ll say it before the negative comments pour in (because I know they will, unfortunately). When the Spirit told Philip in the Bible to join the Ethiopian eunuch in his chariot, When God gave Peter a vision of four footed beasts and immediately told him to go with the servant of Cornelius. These are just few examples of God speaking not directly from Scriptures. Or will you tell me they were reading the Torah when they got those instructions.? My brethren God speaks in different ways, but primarily the scriptures. When Stephen saw Jesus standing on the right hand of God the father. Would you say he must telling a lie because he was seeing some extraterrestrial beings or maybe delusional. All scripture is given by inspiration and is profitable for doctrine, for correction, ......

This all leads us into a expereince in Christ, and prayers are answered, and personal direction given and the building of the Church is a work of God, and Roman's 5 is real, and not just nice reading. So if we divorce our spiritual experience from the word, after understanding the Word in context, we are no futher than debating about what it means corporately either. Of course there are false prophecies and prophets as in the past. Radical cessationism is equally wrong. However, this does not mean we can rewrite the Bible according to our experiences or we would easily be led astray. And contextual biblical interpretation in our devotional life is all important. And the scriptures have one meaning with wide applications in our lives, personally first, that we can also join in together, corporately, which is the living Body of Christ, the Church. Not a building of natural materials, but a spiritual body. Thereafter, shelter and gathering is a accompaniment for our comfort and human families.

@ You are right. God did give that extra-biblical revelation… because they were living in a time when God was still giving new revelation for the foundation formation of the church. Although He has the power and ability to do whatever He wants, God speaks TODAY only through the Scriptures, which can be determined through a proper reading of Scripture, as summarized in the first paragraph of the first chapter of the 1689 LBC. That’s at the heart of cessationism.

@@G3Ministries I do not at all mean to sound at all unloving, but you did not go far enough. It is high time to call out men like Sam Storms, who has publicly said that he does not care about fake/false teachers. Stop treating him as if he is part of the body of true believers, when he does not care about the truth. If you are a true believer, you uphold the truth above all. Sam Storms absolutely does not and there is public proof of such. Next time, please be brave enough to totally separate yourself from the likes of him, Michael Brown and other "well respected" cessationists who prove they do not love the truth. While I don't accept the claims of there being modern day apostles and prophets, even as a Charismatic, I do believe that the Holy Spirit still speaks to the heart of true born again Christians through a still small voice. No, I am not claiming that new revelations are being given to His church. The Bible is God's final authority and revelation to man. But God does minister to the heart. Romans 8:14 says that they that are LED by the Spirit of God are the sons of God

I had a dream recently that 1 of my coworkers was having an asthma attack. In the dream, I'm looking for her pump and crying because she got up and fell and hit her head. I woke up confused, and I asked what should I do. Holy Spirit said, "Pray for her, and I obeyed. The next day she didn't come to work. Later in the day, I called her. Only to find out that she was experiencing high blood sugar levels. So, that dream was for me to wake up and pray for her. Not to prophesy. Be obedient to the Holy Spirit and don't look for recognition and fame. I asked the question when these false teachers and so-called apostles and prophets do they read the Bible because if they do, they are brave fools. It says their judgment will be different for leading the flock astray. Just saying.

Yes , that’s the day of the Lord ,before Christ shows up. Read Matthew chapter 24. It is around verse 29 the Lord is explaining His coming. Hopefully that helps you.

You can't! Because what this guy is teaching is mostly false. The Bible teaches the complete opposite, when I got saved about 4 months later I started to get a couple of dreams, I'm the only Christian in my family in the black sheep, East Indian. I got two Rapture dreams after I was saved, I hardly even knew what the Rapture was at this point cuz I didn't fully read the Bible completely yet. A lot of cessationists can't admit stuff like this, a lot of these dreams and visions people have aren't adding on to the Bible either, it's not written revelation, it has nothing to do with the Bible, the closed Canon. Another note, roughly 40% of Muslims within the last 10 years have been having dreams of Jesus, Jesus has been coming into their dreams, and because of that they have been converting. I mean did the devil send those dreams to them? I don't think so.

God may, and that is very rare, "appear" to any man or muslim in dreams, but you can be sure that God would lead him to believer through whom the Gospel can be presented. See the case of Peter and Cornelius-Acts 10, i hope. However, it is not true that God has been saving muslims upto 40% in the last 10 years. Why did you get this statistics? Can you document it? If it is true, you would not need to argue it becos clearly it would be self-evident before all. Personal dreams are not ordained, normative means by which the world is evangelized. We can pretty well relax and pray to God to continue saving muslims and men through dreams.

Totally agree. And id go further in another direction. Not just chasing after the panacea of experiences anx events, but the human minf dealing with the scriptures in a way of divisiveness and lack of clear Christian devotional teaching from the Word. The puritans went through a similar period and one finds intructful in a historical way. We can learn from their sermons and writings, too. Jonathan Edwards is also instructful. The Reformation and Renaissance left the world and much of the churches in Europe and the new Americas on divisions. Time moves on to our present culture. When it comes to the lostness of mankind, the more things change the more we see the same issues present in the apostolic Church. The New Testament deals this spiritually to the tee. And if your under proper loving fellowship, with the Holy Spirit and His inspired word, your in a good place, regardless of age, marriage or not, and in regards to children good. The Lord cannot be ousted from our understanding and our largest and only pastor, shepherd, over all pastors and shepherds. Where do you think we learn from. Education is not to be minimized for those exercised in it, and their own particular trials.

Yes there are prescriptive and descriptive texts in scripture, but it seems rather dangerous to take a statement of Paul to the Corinthians, and because you don't like it, to declare that it is now a descriptive text, even though it is simply something Paul says he wants the church to do and is not a description of something that has happened. In the very same verse you say is descriptive, 1st Corinthians 14:1, Paul says to "pursue love." Should we consider pursuing love a descriptive text that we should no longer honor? In your wise insistence that we consider the Bible in context, you deny the context of the Bible passage you quote.

Just because some make false claims doesn’t mean God has ceased from all speech through his Spirit today. A good general rule is: If it doesn’t line up with his Word, then it’s NOT from God and if it’s always what you want to hear, then it’s not from God. Why throw out the baby with the bath water? God very much does speak today, through his Word. The Spirit doesn't offer new revelation but rather illumines the Word that we may understand it. That is a huge distinction.

@@denisesmith3544 Apostles and Prophets refers to divine revelation as it does in 2 Peter 3:2 “that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles,” It has nothing to do with the gifts of prophets in the New Testament instead it refers to the prophets of the old testament that predicted what is to come in the New covenant. This why Ignatius of Antioch can prophecy in his epistle to the Philadelphians 7:1

Absolutely. Even more so with Sam Storms, a man who publicly stated he does not care about the truth. Why treat such a man as if he is a brother in Christ? In defending anyone who upholds false prophets/teachers, you are giving credence to them and you are in violation of John 2. While I agree with much of what was said, I see it as a huge problem to in any way associate and give credibility to anyone who doesn't care about the truth, i.e, Sam Storms, and Michael Brown. As for Grudem and Piper, I don't know enough about them to make any definite statement, but would say that any defense of them seems misplaced.

He makes a lot of references to people making false claims and concludes there aren't any true prophecies currently happening. That really isn't a proper exegesis of what scriptures say.

Without citing the verse, Josh claims (at around 45:00) that scripture states: “for a prophet in the Old Testament to be considered and received as a genuine prophet, he must meet two standards…. The Prophet must be a man of holiness….” What about Balaam? He was a prophet, and he wasn’t a man of holiness.

At 22 minutes, it is mentioned that Moses was a prophet and God spoke face to face with him. It seemed like the point was being made that that was the way God spoke to OT prophets. But God only spoke to Moses ‘face to face’. The Bible does not mention it anywhere else regarding prophets in the OT. At about 24 minutes: If you use that definition of prophecy then I do not see how you could deny that people could still prophecy today? According to this definition prophecy does not have to be part of Scripture to carry the weight of God’s authority. Just taking what is said here, God could still speak to His church through prophecy today. ( And I am not in agreement with people running around calling themselves Prophets as though everyone should obey them, but at any given time God could speak through ‘a’ person to His church, He could use that person to give His church a warning)
