Love this series. The scripts are great fun too - "Why don't we just roll in the gutter; it will save time." 😊

They’re shooting this in the couple cities around where I’m from. Went home to visit and they rented out all the businesses for shooting. The set looked pretty cool and I hear they’re looking to rent out more space in my city.

I love it that Jillian Fellows has deftly pick up where Merchant and Ivory stopped, albeit on the small screen. Big screen, small screen, Interwebs…I’ll take what I can get.

finally a show that takes place in this time period, the Brits have tons but we Americans have very few..I guess it's just easier to film over there since they seem to have so much more old architecture still standing and maybe less crowds..I'm guessing

I was playing tennis with my fam in Newport and the court next to us there were two actors playing with wooden rackets/props and training for a shoot the next day for an episode on this show. Would be cool to see where it comes up; the lads weren’t bad for having little experience.

I do not believe that the people of this era spoke this way. Sounds more like British people from our era, transplanted to the early-mid 19th century.

Don't know the plot but it would be cool if the young Cora before she became Countess of Grantham is a minor character, or at least her mother.

Julian Fellowes has hinted that younger versions of Downton characters will pop up here and there.

Oh, how I love the Gilded Age. Time to revisit my favorite novel, Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth, and watch Newport Mansions videos. What fun! Don’t mess this up, HBO. I was a ferocious girl and I am a nasty woman ( only Edith lovers will get those references).

I don't think that novel means what you think it means

@@ThisbeandPyramus it's a book about a woman who has a super fun time and lives happily ever after. At least, that's what I remember.

Great show so far! It was a bit slow so I hope the plot picks up pace in Season 2. I also hope they address how a wealthy black neighborhood called Seneca Village was destroyed to build Central Park, because that was glaringly absent from the show, even though it takes place right outside Central Park in what appears to be a mostly white wealthy neighborhood by then with a lot of racism towards black people.

I started watching this, and about 20 minutes in, I started yearning for Downton Abby. It's free on Roku and Peacock. I am noticing the difference in tone and atmosphere. DA is calm, sedate, where GA is forced, pushy, hard. Interesting contrast.
