If you get their stun meter down all the way it will "break" them. During that time they are stunned and cant move. Also every special you do gets a cinematic cutscene. The best way to deplete the meter is basically hitting then normally and spamming any physical special. The meter does start refilling tho if they go into that "red surge" mode and if you start getting hit a decent ammount Edit: I'm pretty sure one of the best specials for it is called Body Blow? (Anyone can use it)

Bro!! I have played the game, i have platinum medal/trophy and everything and all character at level 300 (Max) and Jack who does not have seen the anime just discovered a meta of the game, solar flare stuns better than the game's stunning mechanic. Im curious if it works will all enemies tho, but thats amazing discovery in my opinion.

(maybe its an earlier form of it before he was strong enough to just obliterate solar systems with one of those)
