The Patriot Arrow is a joke about the Patriot Missiles that the U.S. military uses which are guided missiles. The scene that sounded like Sopranos was actually a parody of a famous scene in The Godfather. The speeches that Robin and Achoo gave were famous speeches given by Winston Churchill and Malcom X, respectively. And obviously the entire movie is a parody of Robin Hood, or specifically the movie Robin Hood Prince of Thieves starring Kevin Costner (hence the English accent joke as Kevin Costner did not speak with an English accent in the moive). And of course, all the little things like Friar Tuck being Jewish in this parody as Rabbi Tuckman and the Sheriff of Nottingham in this parody being the Sheriff of Rottingham. Even without knowing all of the context, the movie is still really funny.
@Dreamfox-df6bg7 сағат бұрын
They did include things from several other Robin Hood movies as well. The stance Robin takes over the fallen Little John is one for example. I thought there was also something referenced from the animated Disney Robin Hood somewhere.

Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein is a must-watch; I daresay one of his very best and a wonderful love letter to the original 1930's horror movies.
@VegetaLF77 сағат бұрын
Especially impressive given Gene Wilder told Mel he was not going to actually physically appear in the film since Gene was going for a specific style of film and Mel's usual characters didn't fit, hence why Mel only does a few creature sounds instead of appearing on camera in it.

They mentioned another Mel Brookes film Blazing Saddles, there was a hangman in that movie too....Played by the same actor. Another Mel Brookes film Young Frankenstein, has a movable body part, but that wasn't scripted and was done as a joke by the actor Marty Feldman. Dave Chappelles father is played by 80s soul singer Isaac Hayes.

many movies parodied here. but the 3 movies that you could have watched first that would have made this better was Disney's Robin Hood cartoon movie, Robin Hood Prince Of Theives with Kevin Costner, and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) with Errol Flynn.

This movie is most directly a beat for beat spoof of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) featuring Kevin Costner, Alan Rickman, and Morgan Freeman with influences from a few other Robin Hood films, like the Errol Flynn version from the 30s. The more times that I've watched it, the more I find Blinken is my favorite character due to his excellent comedic timing.

It helps to understand the parody of some of the jokes if you have seen "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" starring Kevin Costner and Alan Rickman. There are some references to the Errol Flynn "Adventures of Robin Hood" movie as well but mostly it is poking fun of the Costner movie. This includes the Patrick Stewart interruption at the end which in the Prince of Thieves movie was done by a different famous actor.

For me, as good as everyone is, Tracey Ullman's Latrine steals the show. She had her own groundbreaking show in the 80s, which introduced us to the Simpsons. One of the skits featured on the show was called "A Girl's Life." Tracey in her late 20s played a teenage girl with 2 gay dads. In the 80s. Try doing that now and see how the anti-woke mob comes after you. There was a time when breaking the rules was encouraged and cool. But I love the bit here where she prays for her "one true love" and almost breaks character after saying "I touched it." Her comedic timing was fantastic and she's played both male and female characters throughout her career.

Best Mel Brooks movie stays Young Frankenstein! Check that one out!
Although this film is supposed to be a direct parody of Kevin Costner's _Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves_ (with some classic Errol Flynn _Robin Hood_ thrown in), it still works surprisingly well even if you haven't seen that (those) movie(s). Part of that is because it relies so heavily on Robin Hood tropes that we already know, because it's clear that the other film references of the 80s and 90s ( _Malcolm X, Home Alone, White Men Can't Jump,_ the Clint Eastwood guy, etc.) don't work nearly as well anymore.

No, the whole thing with kings "graping" the brides, as in sleeping with them on the wedding night, also known as Primae Noctae, is a myth. There is no evidence for it. Especially in Christian countries. Don't recall where it came up, probably some protestant historian with anti catholic bias BUT I remember it was popularized by the movie Braveheart. It has been debunked countless times by historians even liberal ones that actually respect history and their careers unlike others that take any piece of miniscule fringe baseless data and try to push an entire agenda with it.

Men in Tights is a very funny movie on its own, but unfortunately, this movie references tons of others - if you haven't seen them, then you miss a lot of the jokes because they are references to other movies. You also talked over/skipped some of the best jokes. Maybe you can do a re-react in future - after you've seen some of the serious movies parodied here (parody is always funnier when you know the original), I guarantee you'll enjoy it more.
