JAM needs to be a regular thing! Muki was a joy. It didn't feel like her first stream at all. Also I love how throughout this playthrough you point out great performances of smaller roles (1:30:10) and (try to) name the actor involved. Sometimes I take for granted just how much talent and hard work went into making this game.

My BG3 character is my gender euphoria self-insert until I can get the gender affirming care I need, and Muki's voice acting does so much to up the euphoria feeling while I'm playing. Thank you, Muki! You're amazing!

Ver finally has two crossbows!!! One note about that, they default to shooting both automatically, which uses your action and your bonus action. If you don’t like that you can toggle it off like how you toggle Lae’s helmet, just click the triangle button. If there’s a chain symbol they’re linked, and if there’s not then you can shoot them individually. Happy hunting!

Btw if you repeatedly press on someone’s character portrait they will eventually say something extra besides their standard greetings. It’s pretty amusing Oh and also for turn based games, try the xenoblade cheonicles. Several in the VA cast have acted in those games. One of the characters in Sharess’s Caress was one of the principal VA actors for XC1 (Reyn). Those games get philosophical but they are a great time and all three have good stories

If Jen wants a game with similar battle mechanics as BG3 I recommend checking out Solasta: Crown of the Magister. It's d&d based as well, so battles are almost the same, and it's less focused on the narrative side. Anyway, thanks for introducing us to Muki and for another great stream.

just a heads up: if you get the legendary weapon inside the créche without doing the puzzle, the whole place will blow up with the full concentrated power of the sun. shat can guide you through it just fine tho!

My recommendation for games for Jen to play would also be Solasta: Crown of the Magister. Its an indie CRPG using the same rule-set as Baldur's Gate 3. Wasteland 2 & 3 are also great games with Turn-based combat.

Since Jen asked about turn based games- TemTem is on PS5 and it's a Pokemon-clone turn based game! You catch wild "Tems" and battle with them etc. just like Pokemon. I'm a die-hard Pokemon fan and had a very fun time playing it, highly recommend. Unfortunately co-op requires 2 copies of the game but it's good singleplayer too! Slay the Spire is a really good turn based game too and should also be on PS5. A bit more complex, but I'm not very good at card games and I still really enjoy it.

Around 43 minutes in Aliona says "this bonus turn thing that i really don't understand" and I think I have thoughts that may (or may not) be helpful, because I think it's a language thing and it might even be the same language thing that got to me when I first got into D&D. My advice would be to pretend it's not called 'bonus action' to be contrasted with action. I think the word bonus can be a bit misleading. I think about one person's contribution to a round of combat consisting of 'big action, smol action, movement, reaction' instead. Movement is basically self explanatory, though In baldur's gate there are things (like jumping) that don't translate perfectly to 5e. You do this on your turn. Reactions are actions you take in response to something someone else does. Usually, that isn't on your turn. Then we get to big and smol actions, which happen on your turn. Big actions are sort of the main thing you'll end up doing. It answers the question of "What is my purpose on this turn?" For most turns, that usually ends up being one of three things: damage, positioning, or support (includes healing). Damage is basically self explanatory. You cast fireball or use main hand attack, it eats your 'big action' (action), and the dice rolls are there to fill in the rest of the details. 'Positioning' is my best attempt to sum up actions like dash (you kind of trade your big action for extra ability to move) as well as disengage and hide. These are more to shape the battlefield (though some spells like grease or create water do this too!). Then there's support, which is basically healing, bless, and the help action. Then there are smol actions. These are by nature smaller and usually not as impactful to the state of the battle in the same way. Self-heal and self-buff options like healing potions or a 5e artificer's defensive field are bonus actions. So are many support actions like Ver Rismol's hunter's mark. They are designed to 'help' or assist the propagation of whatever effect you want your actions to do. Are you sprinting to the front lines and positioning aggressively with Lae? If so, check her health. It might be unwise to run in with a sword if she's low, but she has the second wind bonus action to heal herself. It gives a 'bonus' to the effectiveness of running in aggressively. (Aside: speculating ≃ the term bonus action might mean something you do that is meant to apply some 'bonus' to an action, though I will admit this is essentially weak for a wide array of bonus actions. For example, it fails to explain bonus action healing word or spiritual weapon.) The heuristic D&D players have adopted since before I was even born is that 'action economy rules all' and the rest is secondary to that. It is *wise* to use everything you have in a turn, because it's reasonable to presume the enemies are going to try and squeeze every metaphorical penny out of their resources that round. To fail to do so is also not the end of the world. You may use these four things, but it is not a 'you must' kind of deal. A good number of turns, you won't have a reaction that makes sense to use (most are triggered ≃ examples include opportunity attacks and spells waiting for someone to leave a certain radius of you or only being able to use counterspell if someone casts a spell to counter). Sometimes, the same is true for bonus/smol actions. Sometimes, you have a ton of movement left and you're standing right where you want to be. That's okay too! I wouldn't recommend applying this principle to big actions, though. Especially if you have ranged cantrips or even a bow. Free maybe damage, if nothing else. I hope at least some of this lands in some small way. One of the unfortunate side effects of 'bonus action' being a D&D vocabulary word made out of two other words is that we are free to waltz in with all sorts of prior notions and combine them as we will. When it works, cool, but when it doesn't, that can be very hard to break.

I recommend "Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch remastered " if you are looking for games to play in your own time. Studio Ghibli + Joe Hisaishi worked on it. The combat is semi turnbased. A bit of a mix between pokemon and the movement of It Takes Two. Obviously quite different from bg3 but worth checking out if you like the vibes from the trailer.

Don't listen to the liars in chat, none of the mainline Dragon Age games are turn-based! They are extremely good though. (I am very biased.) (Posted 2 weeks before DA4 release.) Definitely recommend the newer Pokémon games to Jen, LOTS of fighting there lmao
