THE GLEANER MINUTE: Four men killed, cop injured in shootout | 50 people killed by security forces

MAY 8, 2024: Four alleged gunmen were killed, a policeman shot and injured, and five illegal guns seized during a reported gun battle this morning in downtown Kingston… The oversight body, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says 50 people have been shot and killed by the security forces since the start of the year… The St Thomas Police say one of its constables has been arrested for his alleged involvement in an abduction and multimillion-dollar robbery in Golden Grove in the parish over the weekend… The Child Protection and Family Services Agency is calling on the public to help to locate a toddler seen being physically abused by a man in a now-viral video… IN SPORTS: Barbados' Minister of Sport Charles Griffith says his Government plans to engage with Jamaica to enhance the standard of training and coaching of track and field on the island.
