I thought she handled it beautifully. It’s a really delicate topic, but I also think it’s extremely important to talk about, especially because all of this happened because Blake won The Glee Project. When I watch Season 2 of the Glee Project it feels kind of fake - almost like they had already pretty much decided Blake would play Ryder and this was his boot camp to set him up... I know it’s cynical but they send home all these unique, interesting, talented people, they tell them to be themselves and then put them into difficult situations where they don’t want them to be themselves and it’s kind of setting them up to fail. I think it was unfair and if they wanted Blake for Ryder they should have cast him and then done the Glee Project without him and picked someone for a guest star arc - which is what the prize was supposed to be and Ryder was never going to be that... Loved hearing all your thoughts Amy, great video!

I personally loved Nellie the most, she was such a gentle person and her voice had beautiful colour. I could really see her in the show just the way she was and get so many young girls identify with her (me included). Not everyone has to be over the top Rachel Berry. Also, no tea no shade but if the contestants really need to be talented actors then why did the first season's winners were 2 white dudes who literally can do 3 face expressions. 😂
@chrishansen8119 Жыл бұрын
I think season 1s winners were part of the reason why the judges in season 2 cared so much about acting. I love Sam and Damien, but they straight up can’t act. And that’s why their storylines were cut short, they didn’t give a lot to work with. So when season 2 came around, they were really looking for someone who can control a scene

One issue I had with the Glee Project was that it was okay for that one guy, I think it was season one, who was religious or something not being comfortable with being "sexy" or whatever, but when Nellie also expressed that, they told her she *had* to if she wanted to stay in the competition. She was who I wanted to see on the show. I haven't watched Glee Project since it aired, so I didn't remember 95% of what you've until you mentioned it, but American competition shows for some reason really like to add in random drama to "spice" things up. It really adds nothing.

@MusicLiveOn4 жыл бұрын
I always thought the idea for The Glee Project was very unnecessary, and it was bound to end up badly from the start. The premise of the show was finding fresh blood to make new characters for the show (which is a problem by itself because of the mess the actual show was when it came to closing everyone's storylines), but Ryan said he wanted to find inspiring people who would make a new character with a fresh story arc. However, the judges of TGP never chose neither a) those interesting, inspiring people, nor b) the best singers and performers, because they would compete with his main storylines; and Ryan didn't want to have a better singer than Lea Michelle, and singers like Marissa, Aylin, Ali, and Shanna would compete with her too much. Ultimately, they chose the middle ground people who would make a flat and boring storyline. 2. The number of episodes given to the winners was very odd? Damian and Samuel ended up becoming extras with stupid story arcs which didn't have any relevance in the end. It's hard to even think about what their last episode was and the way they left the show was excused with some off-screen explanation. Lindsay and Alex were runner-ups and were given 3 episodes, to which Lindsay's character was (again) irrelevant af, and Alex ended up appearing in most of the show, even more than the actual winners, which felt very unfair, regardless Alex having the best storyline out of them all. The reason why Blake's character got more than 7 eps was because Ryan found him white, cis, and attractive, and apparently having him being Finn 2.0 was the most inspiring thing they got out of him? Are you kidding? It didn't matter how much depth they tried giving Ryder, it was still meaningless in the end. Not to mention the writers forgot about his character just like they forgot about many others and never gave him any closure. I have to say, during TGPS2, the writers mentioned how they could see Ali being a villain who's not stopped by being in a wheelchair, which was a great storyline, but they still chose Blake. 3. THEY STILL ADDED MORE CHARACTERS AND HIRED MORE ACTORS WHICH DIDN'T EVEN COME FROM TGP AND THEY STILL FORGOT ABOUT THEM BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO END THE SHOW WITH THE ORIGINAL CAST. I love Glee, but the writing of this show makes me so mad. My point: The Glee Project shouldn't have happened. Edit: I just remembered reading about how Michael got into the show, and it was something about Ryan founding him in a plane while he was playing his guitar and asked him if he wanted to be in there, and Michael had no idea what Glee even was! Also, Michael had spoken about his experience in the show and he's shared how sketchy it was and how it was mostly them pretending to have beef with each other bc the cameras were always in their faces.

i fairly recently binged both glee project seasons and i can't really remember what happened either lmao! - i really like robert ulrich and zach woodlee, he pops up in so many of my fave things, like fired up or hsmtmts, he's lovely, they both are. - about blake, the only reason he was cast i think was because ryan and the others said a few times that they were looking for the new finn. but like, why? it feels like such a waste. especially since in the show, they introduce ryder as a potential finn when he has none of his qualities, only his defaults. and little aside about the character (not the actor, i don't acknowledge his existence), the way they wrote him was so weird? they kept giving him storylines and never seeing them through?! i will never forget the ryder/unique catfish situation that was never resolved. what was the reason?! and they brushed past his sexual assault storyline as well, it's so stupid!!! god i hate everything related to him - obviously we know aly is a tony winner, she did amazing so i'm glad she wasn't on the show, but i feel like they could've at least used her experience to improve upon artie. because we could see that first off, her wheelchair didn't have the handles bc wheelchair users don't just randomly get pushed, they have full autonomy of their body. also, they could've given kevin wheelchair dancing classes a little, just to improve his performance. and idk if you noticed, but aly wasn't always on her chair, she sat on the couch sometimes, put her legs in different positions, everything. i know artie is at school so you can't really do that, but i'm saying there was a lot they could've taken from her to improve their character - i've commented this briefly in another video before, but i hated the way they treated aylin. like, ugh, they clearly had this very stereotypical image of what a muslim is and loved that she wasn't that, but was the "free american girl" which btw is also another stereotype. they constantly made her be the wild party girl that hid everything from her family and that tells me exactly what her stories would've been on the show, so i'm glad she didn't win. - also i dont think season one had them pick lines, i think this was added for drama

As much as I love Aylin, as much as I’m biased as Turk towards her winning, I am ultimately very happy that she wasn’t cast on Glee at all. They might’ve put her in a hijab, tried to get her to speak Arabic, and erased her culture for a loosely related stereotype. Like, don’t quote me, but Naya wasn’t a native Spanish speaker, at least, as far as I could gauge from her accent and that was still a critical part of Santana’s character that was more or less thrust upon Naya for her appearance. A “proud Muslim, Turkish woman,” as Aylin said, being cast as generally Muslim who knows arabic-the average viewer at the time wouldnt understand that there are other Muslim majority countries that aren’t arabic speaking-especially when Islam in Turkey historically was practiced far more secularly than its neighbors, would be just so demoralizing and regressive. Even for Glee standards. Ryan Murphy and company are interested in diverse stories, but have zero will to actually invest the research and effort to write the honest nuances. Satire without nuance is just punching down, and that’s what glee became before the first season even ended. And, yeah, even after all of that, I’m still a fan.

Yeah, she was what the show said it was about but the show failed with it’s message. I’m still rooting for her to get somewhere worth her voice. Ali did it.

Ryan Murphy and everything he touches is problematic and it's crazy how Hollywood still loves him. Blows my mind.

I really liked Michael and Nellie when I watched season 2 back in the day, but they didn’t really belong on the show 😂

Blake Jenner always looked agitated on Glee, like he was always ready to throw down with anyone who looked at him sideways. He's a horrible creature

Nellie was my fav. I was the quiet girl in school and watching her inspired me, meanwhile the least inspirational person won.

I loved nellie. I agree they put a lot but Glee was a very sexual show. That's why Cameron left in season 1
@pohpourri27784 жыл бұрын
I would have liked there to have been a place on Glee and The Glee Project for a less sexual character. You know, in the spirit of inclusion. Not everyone in high school is super sexualized.

@@pohpourri2778 I agree. I think that's what they tried to do with JOe.I mean Joe struggled with his faith and his feelings towards Quinn. She told him to stay true to himself. But yes, I agree.

I don't remember anything from Glee Project season 2 except the trailer scenes they did for that one episode. What confused me was that they had these kids make their own scenes? Like on the spot?? Why couldn't they just write a script for them? Sorry, didn't know Glee was an improv show.

I think with Diana and the wheelchair storyline she did have something to say as it always felt very jarring how she was in it for one major episode and then it wasn't really brought up again and then magically she could walk again, they probably cut a lot of scenes if she wasn't happy with it
