Korea and Taiwan (Formosa) both originally got baseball through the Japanese occupations of their countries (or at least they made it part of the curriculum). Also the US occupation didn't have much to do with growing the sport, it was already HUGE (enough so that the military government came up with "approved" Japanese terms for all the positions. Japan had a pro league of sorts in the 30s, but the war shut it down. As for Cuba, you know the dude with the cigar and beard? HUGE baseball fan and a good enough pitcher to get try outs with major-league teams. Cricket was played in Colonial America and on into the 19th century, but the various forms of "town ball" crowded it out. The Reds were familiar enough with the rules to play cricket on their world tour if challenged. The biggest difference was professionalism, baseball had a functional league by 1875, two by the turn of the century (merged) cricket took a LONG time to get really "professional" or set leagues.

If it was a bums on seats episode in Brisbane with 20/Twenty at the Gabba vs a Caxton Sheld match at Holloway Field then I would be at the later but hence saying that in order to get bums on seats they need to play on different days.

Dear @JamieJoseph88, Depending on what kind of match it is . The basic principals of a cricket match is you have 22 players on 2 teams and each team has and extra person who carries the drinks or cover in case a player gets hurt very badly. A Test match consist of 2 teams getting 2 innings each scoring runs and trying to stay alive and not get out. 10 batters getting out is an innings and this type of game is allocated for 5 days. On some occasions the team who bats second maybe out with under 50% of the score the first batted and will be required to bat again starting their 2nd innings as it is called a follow on . The second kind of match is called a ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL Which means the same 22 players gets an innings each with 50 six ball overs. And Lastly a 20/Twenty Cricket which is the same rules as a ODI game but only 20 overs per team.

In regard of team sports, I think that the easiest way to know if that sport is popular in that country its if there are a professional league, because that means that someone thought that the sport its popular enogh to make money out it. Curently there are aroud 16 countries (USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, DR, PR, Nicaragua, Panama, Venezuela, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, China, Italy, Netherland, Australia) have a profesional baseball leagues, and11 countries (Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zeland, Pakistan, south Africa, Sr Lanka, Nepal, UAE, West indies ) have a profesional cricket league T20, and just Australia have both.
@gtaquizmaster
@gtaquizmaster Жыл бұрын
The west indies is 10 countries by itself though and this list misses out on countries like ireland, zimbabwe, afghanistan, netherlands who are all test members and have professional leagues. Also, t20 and domestic leagues are not the most important format of cricket, its international contests and the international game, so that comparison too should be kept in mind

"the easiest way to know if that sport is popular in that country is if there is a professional league". The problem with that metric is that then from your list you would assume baseball is popular in Australia. I live in Australia's biggest city and have never once seen a baseball field or heard people even just talking about baseball. The sport just simply isn't popular here.
@jesusbb2

@@yoshimajestic1666 my logic its simple if businessmen star a profesional league its because they had detected that there are market at least big enought to make it profitable, even thought not all the people knows it , because the other way around its also true, all the Word knows what american football is, but outside USA there are barly any league in that case there are knowlege but no markets. I am from Mexico by far the most popular sport its Soccer but baseball its popular enought to have no one but two professional leagues a summer league and a winter league any contry in the world outside USA have that, nither Japan, however yes Soccer its more popular, but baseball its popular enought maybe more that in many other contries.

@@SectorOne350 Cricket is the 3rd oldest sport in England founded in 1778 in the 18th century it was founded as the Empires Greatest Game it is a hallowed game of the Empire. This is the big difference between Cricket and Baseball, Cricket is a game of royalty. Under no circumstances was Cricket founded in the southwest as it is although it’s the 3rd oldest Sport it is the national Sport of England. Australia is the second oldest nation and it is Australia’s national sport. As it is in most Nations also Indian Cricket was founded by Lord Harris that Indian info was not true and also like most Cricket Nations it was to Civilize the place. South Africa retuned in 1991 as one of the 2 national sports along Rugby Football referred as Football. Baseball was founded in the US as an American version of Cricket despite the rounders bat. Its one of 4 national sports of US as I am not a fan of American Sports. It was founded because the Americans wanted to run away from England notwithstanding they would have been good provided they do not copy their US system. There are some silmlatiires between Cricket and Baseball and the facts of Baseball in South America is true but Cricket is better and more elegant sport as it is the Empires greatest game.

@@adrianbarichievich7756 Cricket was not "founded" in 1778. It existed before that. We know this because English settlers took cricket to the US with them. Now you know why the first international cricket match was held in the US in 1844. The English bought it to the US.

I think Cricket is a far better bat and ball sport than Baseball. However the Americans were inventive and far ahead for decades with the marketing angle of their sport compared to the cricket playing nations. Of the Cricket playing nations only probably Australia and Aussies closely followed American sports and leagues and how Americans do things. Aussies like the progressive approach of Americans to their sports especially baseball innovations like coloured clothing, Night matches, White coloured ball, Multi Camera work and electronic scoreboard etc. Which were introduced way before the 1970s. Kerry Packer and other Australians like the way Americans did baseball and profitable way they ran their leagues and thought why can't the same be done to Cricket in Australia. So he borrowed all those American innovations for Baseball and transferred it to to Cricket and called it World series cricket and used American camera techniques for baseball for coverage of Cricket with Channel 9 in Australia. Result was it revolutionised cricket in the late 1970s to the point you cannot imagine a limited over cricket match today without white ball, floodlights, electronic scoreboard and coloured clothing. This is American baseball influence on Cricket indirectly via the also American Baseball loving Aussies. So Baseball you could say indirectly made Cricket a more exciting sport than it was before. Where as in England and other cricket playing nations they liked the old traditional way of how things were done in Cricket. Naturally there was strong opposition to the more traditional cricket loving English to all things World Series Cricket coming from Australia at the time but the influence of world series cricket won through. I like the old traditional ways of cricket in England however the more progressive Aussies wanted to move cricket forward in the late 1970s and they won through also helped by Aussie success in Cricket from the late 1980s onwards continueing right upto today whereas English cricket went into crisis in the 1990s,2000s only recently lifted by the winning of the world cup in 2019. However Cricket is not as popular today as it was in England before the 1990s. Only the big South Asian population in England follow cricket now en masse and that only when South Asian teams visit England to play matches. The Premier League in football since early 1990s also has had impact on Cricket further decline in popularity in England since the 1990s despite English teams success in ashes and world cups. I live in England and very rarely see kids play cricket in any fields these days and if any do its more likely to be south asia kids playing. Even amongst south asian community in England. The Football English premier league is generally more popular and now I see south asian kids playing football too just like white kids. This all tells me Cricket in England these days is a minor sport. Not as visible as it once use to be in the English psyche. Thats despite the improved performances of English national cricket teams at home and overseas. That said amonst white people there is a small coterie mostly middle class white English who still closely follow cricket. But I have to admit Cricket is not as popular in its homeland than as it once was. That has not dampened my enthusiasm for the sport however. Its great sport. Also the cricket world cup held in India for the 4th time is just around the corner and I am very excitied about the tournament. I certainly will be following the upcoming cricket world cup.

Not much of a global divide. Cricket is the 2nd most watched and played sport in the world. And it's also the fastest growing in many countries such as Brazil, Germany, Canada etc.....Baseball by comparison is played in few countries and has nowhere the global sized audience. For a "divide" to exist there needs to be a fair degree of parity. Baseball is simply nowhere near Cricket in terms of global popularity.
