Remember, the St. Dominic, as tradition says, started promoting the rosary maybe 700 or 800 years ago! The Fatima prayer was only added in the 20th century after Our Lady's apparition to the 3 children in Fatima in 1917. Find a copy of St. Louis de Montfort's book on the rosary - very informative.

Not sure about the Dominicans but I've noticed the Carmelites always begin the Rosary with that same verse (Psalm 69:2 in the Douay-Reims translation), O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me. followed by praying "Glory be to the Father...."

Are you talking about the entire prayer? They are praying the Holy Rosary. It was first given to St. Dominic, the founder of the Dominicans, but it is certainly for all Catholics. There have been many many saints and apparitions that have said to pray the Holy Rosary. It is a meditation on the life of Jesus and Mary, while asking for Mary's intercession. It is very powerful. Yes, this is the Dominican method of praying the rosary. Anyone can use this method, not just friars. I am a member of the Rosary Confraternity since 2001. This is the method I use when alone. If I am praying with a group at our parish, I will pray the way they are used to, starting with the Creed. The beads connecting to the crucifix were a later addition. So was saying the Creed. The Dominicans start the rosary with verses from Psalms 51 and 70. This is a very old tradition.

@Miles Mills, what gave it away? Sheesh! As many others have mentioned, this is the Dominican form - which is as close to "original" as historical evidence reveals. I suppose your preference is for a more embellished version and you feel like praying this version is incomplete. 😮 If that is your mindset, I will add you to my prayer list.

Father glasses's "Our Father" was cut at the beginning of the 2nd Glorious Mystery - you would think that the Dominicans, preachers to the world, would have caught that and fixed it. I stop the tape and start from the top. What's right is right.
