Thanks for reconnecting us to a period of racing the like of which we’ll never see again.

F1 has always been my favorite motorsport and its champions are my heroes. But there's a voice in my head that keeps telling me that the champion rally drivers are the best drivers of all.

This was a period that is not advertised anymore. Incredible skills. Love the unusual styling. Sharp points etc. The Stratos is my fave. Quattro .Looks like something you would build today.❤❤

Is yours actually the one in the picture? Wow, small world. Best looking example we could find an image of, so good on you! Perhaps we can do a video!
@kgalpt6 күн бұрын
@ yes I recognize the photo from an article that was done for autoweek with the previous owner. We are the third owners of the car. We’d love to do a video with you. we also have a Lancia Thesis, and a Lancia Scorpion in restoration much of it being done by my husband, Vince. Let us know how we can connect.

Interestingly the Delta S4 project name’s Abarth 038, very much a development of the 037. With ”silhouette” Delta bodystyle of course. There were even early 037 4wd prototypes. It was NOT based on the std Delta, it used only it’s windscreen. The basics were carried on from the 037, the tubular chassie, engine, gearbox, suspension etc. The supercharged Abarth Lampredi 2.1 16V was reduced to 1.8 with added turbo & the front end got its diff & driveshafts. The (Fiat Strada based) Delta roadcar & Integrale engine was completely different with the later modern non-motorsport 16V head. Their connection was the engineblock, still with Lampredi origins, just like the Abarth 16V. The Abarth 16V engine was used 1974-1986 in: Fiat 124 Abarth Rally Fiat 131 Abarth Rally Lancia 037 Lancia Delta S4

Cringe moment of the year so far is when an S4 Delta with Henri Toivonen's name on the side was described as a death machine. Did you not realise what happened to him? On a lighter note I was a spectator on the 1985 RAC rally which was the debut of the S4 in rallying and the Lancia was totally stunning with Toivonen winning the event.

I have no problem with him stating the facts.

Cool, I was a service guy for a local team and later a spectator after our car broke, at the S4's last rally in 1986 in the US.
@pereldh57416 күн бұрын
@@UberLummoxIt wasn’t more of a death trap than the 205 or RS200. But Henri’s crash was the worst of all

Good evening Gentlemen . Well the Cortina hardly got a mention ! Jim Clark entered the RAC Rally in one but l don't think he was placed although l think he won the BTCC twice in a Cortina . And the clip of the navigator was David Richards who has had an amazing career . Chairman of Prodrive for over 40 years . Chairman of Motorsport UK former Chairman of Aston Martin and former team manager of BAR and Benetton Formula One teams . And yes ,these drivers were only as good as thier navigators . Thanks 😊

Strange how rally never made it big in USA, maybe apart from desert racing

That Cortina is not a rally car, it’s a road racing car. Just saying…
@grahambell42986 күн бұрын
It was also used in rallying. British ace Roger Clark had some international rally success in a Lotus Cortina. A red one.
