I just randomly bought the 1980 book by William Bayer that this song was presumably named after. Back cover description: “One Sister Lived By The Heat Of Men’s Desires. The Other Watched From The Shadows... And Waited.” Further down on the back cover: “What erotic obsession had driven her sister to the point of madness? And who was the powerful dark man who dominated her fantasies?” I can see some likely tie-ins with the lyrics there. And the front cover fine print says “Don’t Love Me. Don’t Trust Me. Just Punish Me.”

My good friend worked in a record store-he made tapes of the albums for his special friends. He gave me a cassette tape with This album on one side, and several early songs by “And Also the Trees” on the other side. (I think AATT toured with the cure once maybe)? It was my absolute favorite tape; and I spent the next 20 years trying to fine either album in America to no avail. Finally; along came the internet; itunes youtube and Amazon to help me out!! I was able to buy “Blue Sunshine”; but I still have not been able to find the very early singles by “And Also the Trees”. Maybe some brilliant record company with very good taste in Post-Punk will re-release them all someday?
@prayers_for_rain3 жыл бұрын
collaboration between severin and smith who were having issues with there bands at the time ( the cure and banshees ) so formed the glove as a welcome distraction. Andy Anderson who had recently joined the Cure on Drums and Jeanette Landray who was actually a TOTP dancer on vocals. Due to recording contractual restrictions Smith could only sing on 2 songs hence why Landray was roped in to sing. Later the whole album ( Blue Sunshine ) was released with all the songs sung by smith ( from original demos ). Had this on limited edition blue vinyl when it came out.

Here's a thought. In 2015, someone *born* in 1984 ( a year after this) (someone who was not only not born for punk, also missed Duran Duran v Kajagoogoo and by the time they were a teenager had missed Britpop) is now older than Siouxsie was then - at 29! Siouxsie's dancing comes over as mysterious and alluring despite her haircut. That's class right there!

And unfortunately she's the least cool member of the band, which is why I suppose we never heard of her again. There's an illusive margin between having "it" and not, but it's pretty plain to see here. Having said that, I've always quite liked her voice on that album.

She's awful; can't sing, bland voice, no personality, dragged down the whole project. Only the songs with Robert Smith vocals are OK.
