The bit about perfectionism is about THE most relatable thing I’ve ever heard in my life, my room is a mess and it’s gotten that way from my mental health, believe me I WISH my room was clean and it stresses me out so much when it’s not, but I simply cannot bring myself to this large a task at hand. And it’s because I know that when I start something I physically cannot stop until it’s done and it’s done to a level that I am happy with (basically it has to be perfect) and I already know that it will take me HOURS to get it to a level that I’m happy with so I end up just not doing it at all because I can’t comprehend it. And this doesn’t just apply to cleaning my room. I will admit that I’m single-handedly the most last person in my house, my parents ask me to do the washing up and I never do it because I know that i can’t JUST do the washing up, I also have to re organise all the draws and cupboards, clean every surface and mop the floor or I won’t be satisfied. It’s as if i can’t let anyone see something that’s not great when I’m apart of it. This is years of wanting people to think the best of me and not wanting to be seen as anything less then perfect and it’s a major problem. My entire life is a mess. anyway I just wanted to thank Jen for this amazing video

So relatable! This expectation of perfection led to avoidant coping mechanisms for me, and it sounds like a experience y’all have too. Telling myself “just clean for 5 minutes, and reassess how you feel about it after” helps to knock down the toxic “I’m half-a$$ing it if I don’t finish the task” mentality. And sometimes after the 5 minutes, it feels more manageable and I can actually get it done in one go. I’m just starting this journey, but wish you all well on yours 💕💕💕 We got this!

This was so much fun to watch! I’ve been trying to glow up my life too for 2022, my sleep schedule was absolutely horrible going to bed at 3 am every night and waking up at noon. But this week I’ve been trying harder and now I’m going to bed by 9:30 pm and waking up by 7:30 am and I feel much more productive.

Anyhow. Love your video, as usual, love you AND I'M SERIOUSLY OBSESSED WITH YOUR SONG I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE VIDEO. ♥

I swear you're my spirit animal. I've watched all your DIY room organization and cleaning videos ever since you started making them many many years ago. And while a lot of other content creators have useful hacks and ways to keep one's room organized, yours is the most comforting. I like that you're honest with your habits of why you don't clean as often or why you procrastinate on cleaning your room. I have the same problem where I clean my room and then somewhere down the line it'll get messy again. And so maybe after this I'll create better habits for myself and hopefully maintain the cleanliness of my room for more than a year :)
@clouds01033 жыл бұрын
Ikr like cleaning your room is so much I get you. It's finding motivation and needing the EXACT right things like containers to organize perfectly so your not bothered. Also wanting to find the right things when you need them. Not to mention wanting to redecorate but have to find motivation to make the decorations you want. And all that is time and money consuming when we'd rather just chill, watch Netflix, while eating snacks.😌

One of the best organization tip that I learned was to clean you room every day even if it’s just for 10 minutes, you can hear music, or listen to a podcast while doing it. 10 minutes is a lot of time to clean your room for example, taking dirty clothes and putting it in the laundry basket doesn’t take long, or putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher, but it makes the room so much more organized and clean

i have a tip to cleaning ur room/ keeping it clean. after you deep clean ur room take aesthetic/clean pictures of it so when ur room starts to get dirty u go back to those pictures and see and remember how good it felt to have a clean room. then go clean it. this has helped me a lot as a messy person myself. loved the video keep up the hard work!!! also it’s my birthday today so this was a great inspirational video/ gift!!❤️

From my experience as a perfectionist, my room used to be super messy and I always wanted it to look perfect but over time I learned that keeping your room clean is a habit that you don't get overnight. Little by little you learn how to keep things tidy and let me tell you it takes a loooong time to change something you've been doing your whole life. On the bright side, a slow process will give you long-term results and even if your room gets a bit messy again you will easily know how to handle it and cleaning will become second nature to you. Btw this should be a Netflix series, it is so well put together

This is why I have an *organised* mess lol. It’s not particularly empty or whatever, there is stuff in every corner and some people have told me it is “cluttered” but I like it that way. I have space to move and do stuff and I can remember where everything is. Someone “cleaned” my room for me and I couldn’t find shit for monthssssss. I always change the way it’s organised for my sanity but it is still tidy. This has motivated me to reorganise my room again because I have been too tired for it

The fact that this video could catch my 5 minute attention span is just AMAZING. I am DEFINITELY going to try randomly picking what to start with and what to do next in my own glow up project. And replacing the old pictures with new ones to see how you’ve progressed and encourage yourself is just AMAZING. I’d very much prefer to do it physically but I MIGHT do it digitally (since I don’t have much money and I don’t get an allowance/basically have to beg my parents for money). I’ll try to convince my mom to give me some sort of allowance so that I’d have something to spend to get my life together, cuz as much as I’d like it to be free, it WON’T be. I mean, it CAN be but I want PHYSICAL reminders of my progress and this project. Jotting everything down on my iPad isn’t gonna do shit for me and I’ll give up in less than a week. However, if it’s physically and if I have pictures printed and cute stuff and decorations, I can kinda trick my mind into thinking that it’s gonna be an easier and more fun process than it actually is (if that makes sense lol). So yeah, I’m gonna start my own “Glow-Up Project”. I know this is just another surge of 3 AM motivation, but I DON’T want it to be like that. This time, with summer vacation just a few weeks away, I’m gonna change myself. I won’t become a NEW PERSON, but I WILL become a BETTER PERSON. Thank you Jen, this video was very inspirational. You might’ve just changed my life forever, so thank you SO SO MUCH for this.

I just wanted to say that the outro of the last episode it's literally like this type of "coming of age" series , I loved the video, the editing/style, quality, music, everything🙌🏼. Also I got to say thank you for the honesty, I truly related with the "well a year has pass..." and all the struggle when you're feeling overwhelmed and something even burnout with everything. I am also in a journey trying to get my shit together for myself so it's really refreshing and hopeful to watch a video like yours, not just been something cute and all for aesthetics (which is pretty much all you can watch on tiktok) but actually something relatable, raw and inspiring for others❤I am excited to keep watching whenever the next episode comes out. PS: THAT SONG!!!! omg it's amazing, adding to my playlist ASAP✨

I used to have this problem, but after I got it under control, I used the following tips to keep it that way: 1) I make my bed every day and don't leave my room in the morning without bringing any dirty laundry with me. PJs go in the ladunry bin or under my pillow, yesterday's clothes go away. Clothese can only be on the floor overnight, not during the day. 2) I do a "quick clean" every week. Declutter my desk, wipe down surfaces, vacuum if necessary, etc. This helps avoid any big messes sticking around for over a week. I do the same for my bathroom every week. Declutter drawers, wipe down surfaces, clean the toilet, etc. It's amazing how much cleaning your room and bathroom for 15 minutes every Sunday can do to keep them from getting disgusting. 3) When you'redone with dishes in your room, don't leave them there. As soon as they are empty, bring them down immediately or put them at the top of the strais or at your doorway so you can't leave your room without taking them with you. No leaving emput cups all over your room.

Amazing video! You're really one of your kind in this type of video and it's really refreshing. Not to be a party pooper, but I do think that believing to be a perfectionist is a giant downfall, especially for our generation. If you are not thriving for perfection always, you are not a perfectionist, and that's totally ok!! Being annoyed at something not being perfect is not the same as being a perfectionist, just as not liking mess is not the same thing of having OCD. Just like you cannot live surrounded by things and be thinking yourself a minimalist. BUT it's totally ok not to be a perfectionist, or not be a minimalist, or whatever. Having those traits naturally is very rare, and thinking yourself as a perfectionist will only make you feel worse at the fact you cannot live up to it. Let's all come out as un-perfectionist but trying to be better, instead of failed perfectionists!!

One thing that works really well for me, is setting up a timer, especially for the things I really hate doing (like sorting paper work or decluttering): I just set up a timer for 15 min (or 10, or whatever feels doable) and then just GO and do however much I get done until the bell rings. That way I manage to get things done slowly, without finding excuses like "I don't have time for this" or "this will take too long and my brain can't handle that" or "I'll start tomorrow, cause it takes so much time". :) Baby steps are steps, too! It took me 6 years of living alone to finally find a structure for everything and render my home and studio basically permanently mess free. :D Also: I feel the bit about perfectionism so much omg!

I honestly relate a lot to you when you talk about being a messy perfectionist, because if I know that if I clean up and it's gonna look just decent because idk where to keep my stuff then it's like it's not worth it. And also I'm very proud of you for cleaning up it really takes a lot of effort.

Gurl, I can't explain how much this video made me smile and get motivated to do what I should. I paused the video just to write this comment. Girl I love u damn. Your song gave me goosebumps. Your filming top notch, editing, piano skills, singing skills and even the talent to connect to the audience in this way is amazing! I am sending u lost of good wishes and hope for your happiness.
