I think another thing that Ed should mention is that he was basically on a caloric surplus for his entire powerlifting career. He moved fluidly up through weight classes taking records in every class he touched. I think if lifters today try to emulate his steady increase in volume over time without realising this fact, then they'll hit a harsh reinforced wall of reality and plateau. Volume has to increase over time to get stronger and for most people you need to gain weight. Ed ticked both boxes and became the GOAT.

Sexton Hardcastle I honestly don't think many of the top ipf guys use today, but I certainly understand your point .

Everything else being equal your muscle mass will go up if you increase training volume. So I think you're confusing the symptom of the training for the goal of the training here.

Would love to see Ed’s ped stack back in the day, or any high level powerlifters stack from the 80s to see how it compares to today lifters

To be clear Ed Coan totaled over 2400 pounds in the 220 weight class using a STIFF bar and having 2 hour weigh ins. He wore an old time squat suit, wraps, and bench shirt. Altogether they MIGHT have added 150 pounds to his total but probably less. Meaning that his raw total was probably around 2,250 or even higher....in the 220 weight class. Yuri belkin is the current record holder in that class with 2,144 total, and he uses a deadlift bar and a 24 hour weigh in. So in short to give you an idea of how strong Ed was, he could beat the modern day record holder by over a hundred pounds while lifting under stricter conditions. Simply the GOAT.

I think the craziest thing is how not only did he pick his numbers so well, he always executed. Discipline at its finest.

Is it good to do x2 benches 4-6 rep range(3sets monday, 3 sets thursday) , x2 incline db press 8-10 rep range(3sets monday, 3 sets thursday) and x2 bayesian flyes 12-15 rep range (2sets monday, 2 sets thursday)? If yes should I remove OHP 3x6-8 on Wednesday or it would not interfere with my recovery? (17yo with good recovery on a 300-400 surplus bulk)
