Maybe Matt's flim commentary is more of a mirror for his own spiritual beliefs. These beliefs coincide with many other people's systems. These people include the writers, directors, film crew, and actors of this film and all other media. It might be correct to state that all media is a mirror that shows us the psychology of a given culture.

@@hajime5486 @Hajime dude if he believed in it then just don't say that. If others are pushing it and he was actively against that then sure, but otherwise just respect it and honor/mourn/respect him in your own way privately or even publicly in your *own* comment, (something like "I'm sorry to hear he's gone, had an insightful point of view and seemed to be a good man, one that I looked up to/was informed/inspired by/entertained by", not religious/heavenly but honest to your beliefs, focusing on what he did during his life rather than the "afterlife"), but allow others to express kind thoughts. I've shared your original Shawsank video with a few close friends a while back. I find your take on the Jesus allegory to resonate with me big time and I'm not even a Christian. It seemed pretty obvious to me once you broke it down...even to the level of embarrassment that I didn't deduct it on my own, having watched the movie a dozen times. You made your case so well...as you did in all your videos. Truly fantastic work. I just realized you passed and wanted to pay my respects. Enjoyed your work tremendously. I can give no higher compliment to a stranger. All I want for my own life is for my work to resonate with some folks I've never met ...or you could say met only through my work. I hope your videos live on and grow for years and years on KZbin and platforms yet to be created. RIP sir

So I stumbled across a gold mine here on accident. I've been seeing videos on Cast Away pop up on my page recently because of Owl City's new song Kelly Time, which is about the film. Once I figured that out, I had to go watch that film again. It had been something like 10 years. But now, having seen these 2 videos, I think I have to watch it again. It's become something very special to me, as Owl City has long been my favourite music artist and means so much to me. But now having a song of his dug way deeper than I ever thought, and all from what I've found to be an amazing channel that delves into films more than most, a channel that holds the heart and soul of who seemed to be a beautiful man, I feel so much more depth to everything. All these random little coincidences have led me to this weird amalgamation. Glad to have stumbled upon these videos. Thank you for putting some sense to this strange little journey of mine, Matt. Rest easy in Jesus.

Wow. I guess there really is such a thing as cosmic irony. I was just scrolling through my youtube feed and saw part 1 of this, watched it and found it very insightful. I loved castaway personally but this particular take on it wasn't something I had ever really considered. Its rare to get a little surprise by that. Imagine my surprise again seeing part two and hearing about this man's struggler and ultimately lost battle with cancer. I have known of this man's existence for all of an hour but I feel it is a loss and also a great irony that the very thing he was trying to cover in these videos decided to make itself present in his life. The world is lesser for your exit friend. Thank you for the few minutes of introspection and unique thought.
