Together with Interstellar in my top 10. "If you could see your whole life from start to finish, would you change things" makes you think. Think about yesterday, today and tomorrow.
@kennethschweighardt49204 күн бұрын
I loved this movie, it blended the suspense of science fiction, with a deeply emotional thread that runs (both ways) throughout the movie. It reminds me of something I have been meditating on for several years now. The fact that God inhabits every moment of our time simultaneously, from the beginning, to the end. He has been in every moment of time we arrive in since the moment He created time. God is circular in that He inhabits every moment together in an unbroken circle. This begs the question: "If we believe this, why do we worry about tomorrow?", If He is there already, and He knows our needs, and He cares for us as a Father loves His children, why do we allow uncertainty to upset our peace?

This is my favorite science fiction film ever, Interstellar almost took the spot. It is such a somber and beautiful story about time and language.

This is a poorly done movie masquerading as a great film. It's completely full of itself, in love with it's own "neo western weirdness", while actually stealing elements from films we've seen so many times before. But, the film actually goes nowhere with undeveloped characters whom we don't care about. The so-called villain isn't scary or interesting or believable or even funny...on top of it he's got dorkiest haircut ever committed to film. The tired, old sheriff cliche has been done to death in a gazillion films before...poor ol' sheriff can't make sense of this world gone mad...blah, blah, blah. He doesn't seem particularly good at his job. He's not noble or brave or flawed...he's just kind of a lunk head who's given up. The people who are killed...I feel nothing for them because we don't know who they are....they're just movie props. They die: who cares? And every damn person in this movie is as dumb as a doorknob, making clearly stupid decisions anyone with half a brain wouldn't do. I'm so tired of seeing this film lauded as some masterpiece....it's a piece of overpriced junk.

The scene in "The Last Temptation of Christ" where Jesus is crucified and just left there, seeing the mundane and feeling absolutely alone, also drives the point that this video is making.

I just saw this movie for the first time and it was great - right up to the last 20 minutes and then it just all fell apart. They took a great story and trashed it at the end. You're left feeling like WTAF???? Made no sense. Completely anti-climatic. Other than that, great film. I'm here to try to understand wtf I just watched. I thought I understood it until the last 20 minutes.

It was one of the stupidest films I've ever seen. These creatures have oval rock spaceships that can balance vertically, but they cannot communicate with humans and when they do, the film ends. Some know-it-alls try to present the logical errors in the film as if they are the things that make the film good. There is nothing good about the film except the music, which is not original.

All people in the comments are really harsh but they don’t explain anything and that’s sad. But in fact it’s really simple. True objective of the aliens is to obtain humans help in 3000years. And the easiet way for them is to first communicate with humans. Second prepare them. Louise later in her book presents their language as « universal language » so first objective seems complete. And because this language rewire the brain and « shows the futur » humanity will be able to see the futur like them and prepare for whatever is coming in 3000years. In the film someone says « those aliens don’t ask questions » and this is really important. Everything they do and why they are here is exclusively to teach humanity their language. So that’s why they don’t talk « human ». Talking « human » would have deserved them cos humans would less learn the « universal language ». In my opinion There s no mistake the only thing i can’t really explain is the change of gravity but I think its « mise en scène » (im french i have no clue how u say that in english sry). I hope u can have a new point of view on this film and u can appreciate it !

One thing i expected to be in the video and that is not is the name « Hannah ». You can read in both way and it’s like the film and the language of the aliens. Definitly an huge hint and i love it!

I came to this great essay / analysis in a haphazard fashion or maybe the KZbin algorithm from Bill Hader talking about how No Country for Old Men inspired Barry to here. This made me want to see this fantastically dark movie again but after your words and considering that a staggering 17 years have passed since I first saw it, it feels so much darker, sad, depressing now quite possibly because of your astute analysis. It could also be because so much has transpired in my life in those 17 years and I am closer to the inevitable now. Hmmmmm. Great job.

Did you ever think they are not actually aliens but demonic entities from another dimension? They refer to the heptapods needing humanity's help 3000 years later so that could connect to third coming of Christ. But here's the thing about the third coming of Christ, it actually comes between the 1st and second coming. It's not in chronological order. The third coming is more a metaphysical journey within the self.
