This was to parallel Don Vito’s execution of Don Fenuchi..Vincent personality-wise was the closest to Don Corleone. He learned well from Michael and incorporated his training to become more Vito-like. Even though he was initially a hot-head like his Sonny, he came to understand the strength of being cool and strategic like Michael. He did this while still retaining the warmth, appreciation of family, and strength of his Dad Sonny. As a result he was a blend of Sonny and Michael. Vincent was the man that Vito wanted Sonny to become.

GR8 analogy, but Vincent Corleone was better on his feet than Sonny and Michael. He WAS his Grandfather Vito in that neighborhood who kept everyone protected and safe. He lived there in "Little Italy." and knew how to deal with those other "business men." Respect to you.

It was indeed filmed to show how times have changed since Don Fanucci. But also available options too. No way Vincent could surprise Joey like Vito did Don Fanucci. The reminder of your comment I totally disagree with. Vincent never became more Vito-like or Michael-like. He just became pragmatic and brutal. Also, Vito's assasination attempt on the street in the first movie showcases that his times were gone and everything around has changed. "It's not like the old days" - well summarized by Barsini at the table of all cosa nostra families the other day.

Rubbish. I don't think anything like this has happened since I was born 35 years ago, and I'm from Naples. People tend to think organised crime goes around killing people all year round, but in reality it wouldn't make any sense. There are executions and killings, but they tend to be well aimed and effective, with as few bystanders as possible, especially concerning high-up bosses. In 2016 in Italy 397 homicides took place, only 55 were organised crime related (being that Cosa Nostra, Camorra, 'Ndrangheta, Sacra Corona Unita and others). In an american movie that would be the balance of a day... I'm not saying that there isn't a problem with the mafias, because there is and it's serious. It's just that even though they're criminals, they're not idiots, they realise that blood is bad for business!
