I think it’s fair that the roger pirates didn’t say anything. imu and the gorosei were pretty content with how things were going in the world up until recently. Spilling the beans definitely would force them to flood the world again. Since roger was close to death, he would effectively be dooming the world before joyboy came back. Seems like all of them learned that joyboy was coming back in the next few years, so they chose to wait. Which is why Rayleigh said it’s for the youngsters to follow. Starting the great pirate age I think was enough to set things in motion without causing the great cleansing. Makes sense why all the roger pirates have been acting the way they do now. Especially shanks.

And if he just needed the Poneglyph to learn about it, why did he plan to take over all of Alabasta? Why go in that loud instead of sneak in, get the info, and get out? Did he know something more about the strategic importance and history of Alabasta itself? Also thinking about his beef with Whitebeard and what Iva alluded to knowing about him, it’s got me wondering too: is Crocodile a former slave from God Valley? Is that his secret? Thinking about how Alabasta and Dressrosa are very similar arcs (countries taken over by Warlords with their people divided and their kings made to look like villains), it would be a beautiful inversion if Croc was a former slave where Doffy was a former celestial dragon Edit: going back to look at Oda’s drawings of the young warlords, Croc looks more like he could’ve been descended from nobility so more in line with Doffy in that regard rather than his opposite.
