Once again John X Safaris has proven why they are the best safari videos! 34:55 -35:18, not by accident that this type of footage is included. I may never get to Africa to hunt, but I know how it smells crossing the grass, I can feel the dust tickle my nose, as I cross the crick, and I feel the sleekness of the hide. I may never get their - but I've been their so many times! Thank You John X Safaris

Stunning footage, esecially the scenery and drone shots. The Warthog was shot behind the shoulder as the guide requested when it should have been straight into the shoulder on that angle. Very good shooting overall by the hunter. The standout feature of this video was the closeness of the guide client relationship and the level of mutual respect. Most Impressive!

I`m curious to know where that amazing stretch of beach is and if you guys ever get a line or two in the water with the client? Seeing as most people that hunt are also fishing enthusiasts...

Well - who pays for the pig? The hunter or the leopard? By the way - perhaps the advice of the PH ("behind the shoulder") was a little bit off because the pig was facing obliquely towards the hunter. However - happy for the interesting - and good for the leopard - ending. Kind regards.

Not only was the pig standing obliquely, a cross wind was blowing 25-30 mph. I pulled the trigger. My bad but it all worked out in the end.

Highlight must be the leopard on the pig! I think the cat maybe got injured in the process and couldn’t return? Hard to think bush pig meat is so good if you look what they eat?
@garyboehmer2542

The consensus in camp was the same as your deduction. The cat was likely overwhelmed by the warthog and left licking his wounds. He had no desire to come back to check on the hog.

What happened to the first shot on the Kudu? It looked textbook perfect. Did it require a follow up?
@JohnXSafarisExperience
@JohnXSafarisExperience Жыл бұрын
It did require a lengthy tracking job but all ended well. The shot placement was perfect. The bull went quite a way with long grass making tracking very difficult.
@garyboehmer2542

There wasn't a follow up shot. However, the bullet malfunctioned a bit and did not penetrate the chest cavity to the degree that one would expect. The bull managed to go much farther than he had any right to go based upon the shot location. It wasn't just very tall grass that Stix had to deal with. Some of the initial tracking involved rock and flat stone. The kudu crossed a creek and ended up in super thick brush. Stix and the trackers walked within a few dozen yards of the kudu multiple times over a period of several hours. Stix finally locked on to the bull's track one last time and slowly worked his way directly to the bull. In the video, as we approach the downed kudu, there is a ridge in the background. Off to the left, just below the lip of that ridge is where the bull was when Stix finally found him.

@@garyboehmer2542 Thanks for the detailed response. I have seen on a few occasions a bullet does funny things after hitting bone. At the end of the day, it all adds to the experience. Nice animal, great shot even better follow up.

The leopard was no more than 20 yards from me but I never saw it because of the thick brush. I certainly heard the leopard growling and the pig squealing. It was definitely exciting but more than a bit unnerving to know that a leopard was on the ground so close but invisible. He could have been on us in a couple of seconds had the wind changed.

Why don’t you guys eat the animals that you just shot? When I go to a safari, I want to eat what I kill not chicken or lamb chops. I got that already at home. What I don’t have is kudu t-bone, duiker tenderloin, wildebeest rib eye steak and ribs.

In Gold Standard Safari part 2, you will see that my PH, Stix, cooked lamb chops as an appetizer for my hunting partner, Doby, on his birthday. The Eastern Cape is home to world class lamb chops. This year, after my morning blue duiker hunt, we were close to Stix' home so he took us there for lunch where he cooked lamb chops and kudu sausage links. At The Woodlands head quarters, the meat is always fresh from the past couple of days hunt. Lee and her staff prepare the fresh, local game using a myriad of recipes, all of which would be worthy of being served in a michelin rated restaurant.
