I collect for fun, because the figure holds a special value to me. Whether its a character from a movie I loved or a video game I enjoyed. I don’t go with trends, I buy what I like and what I can afford. I’ve passed on a lot of figures because they are too expensive or I don’t like how they look. Here is my limit, nothing past $100 (only in some very rare instances). Buy less, you don’t need to have the room filled to the brim with plastic, there’s enough already out there.

I've been sitting on the sideline for years waiting for the prices to come down. With widespread 3D printing technology many new companies start making figures. And the old ones never stop. I kinda gave up on collecting early this year. Mainly because the figures I wanted were too hard to find. Even pre-orders would sell out within seconds. And too many figures that I really wanted were the collector's/alternate version of the figure I could easily find. This false scarcity just made made not want to collect at all. I see two figures I want in 2025 and then I'm done.

So you only collect for the thrill of finding things on the shelf? I collect figures because i like them not because I find them in a store I couldn't care less how I get them. In England we don't have many toy shops. Toys r us was the biggest one. The ones that are left are pointless and brands like neca have never been commercially released over here. 98% of my collecting is online and has been for years. For me the golden age of collecting was over when it became a known thing because now the prices are too high. When it was an underground hobby with only nerds figures were so much cheaper.

@@jaysonlee4394 look at this epic comment!!! I cant even add anything to that LOOOL its awesome that people are watching him and seeing it for what it is, he is just going through something and he has built a community of people that thinks they are listening to a man that loves the same hobby as them but NO its not the same, he will absolutely put you off, if you're new to collecting.

I don’t think it’s over, it’s a new age, it’s time to make our own Toys.

This. 3D printing will be the future of the toy market. Make them at home how you want them.

Why not collect just for fun? Isn't that implied in the idea of 'collecting'? When I look at Funko Pops-seriously mass-produced and available everywhere (my local store exclusively stocks them, with little else on the shelves)-I struggle to see how they're meant to hold any value. Their entire ecosystem seems to be the exact opposite of what typically makes something valuable in the long term.

You can't. That's the thing. It's not fun anymore. It's not fun when you have to chase down a toy and take the risk in getting ripped off all because you can't find the toy you want to collect in stores because folks snatch up everything they think is gonna make them some extra cash and you get stuck having to seek it out and take risks if you want something that you should be able to walk into any walmart anywhere and find. It's not fun because of scalpers and resellers.

@@thatoneguy378 Ah, understood. Reminds me of the graphics card hype.

Funkos are funny because they were literally cheap knock offs of nedos which were already meant to be kind of cheap so they could be collectible.
