Ultraman (2004) on the PS2 is honestly a very solid Kaiju game. The controls make you really feel like you're playing as dudes in rubber suits, which is something that I didn't think was possible.

Those two games dominated my childhood to the point where when I get an opportunity to play them now at my ripe old age of 27, I enjoy them way beyond the simple "nostalgia" factor. Oh dude, you would ABSOLUTELY love Gigabash, give it a try. Everyone compares it to or mentions Powerstone in tandem because something something top-down arena brawler with powerups but really, all I get out of it is Melee mode from the Pipeworks games. Scratches every itch you can imagine, and the controls are tight to boot.

Gigabash and Dawn of the Monsters may be the only ones helding the kaiju front nowadays but both are fantastic at their specific genre, with the first one being an excelent continuation of the pipiwork Godzilla games meanwhile the second one feels like a spiritual sequel to the King of the monsters 2 neogeo beat em up.

A bunch of fans are making a pseudo-not-really fourth game in the Atari-Pipeworks Golden Trilogy as a mod for Save the Earth, which I myself have covered quite extensively on my own channel. Most people forget that Pipeworks also did Rampage Total Destruction. World Tour was one of the best bonus features of that game for absolute sure.

Great video man! I've watched some other videos about these Godzilla games and other Kaiju based games and this was a good mix you highlighted that does fan service. Gigabash delivers and does some fan service. Its really a blast to be able to play as Godzilla in that game. All the DLC has been pretty exciting! I definitely recommend playing Gigabash.

i genuinely think War of the Monsters feels so special in its combat and environment because the developers behind it, Incognito Entertainment, are well-versed with how to make destruction and carnage satisfying. i'm surprised you didn't bring them up as they're the progenitors of vehicular combat, being the creators of the Twisted Metal franchise (before this they were the developers of the first two games under SingleTrac and later formed Incognito to develop Twisted Metal Black!). hell you even get a skin based off the iconic Sweet Tooth ice-cream truck if you have save data for Twisted Metal Black in your memory card!

Tip: certain monsters are immune to certain hazzards, like those annoying water pipes are heavenly for aquatic monsters like Gilman and Cal. So it's recommended to use the right monster for the job If not, there's also tons of cheat codes, I used the invincibility code a lot for when I just wanted to have a romp after school

Man I miss War of the Monsters, really wish Sony would release a PC variant or something of the like, this was my first game to 100% complete on the highest difficulty settings aside from the Ratchet & Clank franchise. As a side note, the lock on feature if I remember right, you could also push down on one of the thumb sticks, and it'd stay locked until you clicked it again. I could be remembering wrong, but I am pretty sure there was a way to keep the lock without killing your fingers. Also in regard to the bosses, they were actually meant to test what you had learned so far in game mechanics. Each boss has a few ways to deal with their seemingly unfair mechanics, catching and throwing things back in their faces, getting to high ground areas, using cover, and similar. The AI hunting down health though has always been annoying. It's why my counter for it was stealing the health before they could use it, which forces the AI to turn and fight you when they run out of health options.

God I loved that game! It’s even cooler to randomly unlock Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal Black! I Love it when Additional Save Files gave you Unlockable stuff! What was Really Cool was MONSTER RANCHER For PS2 allowed you to UNLOCK SO MANY Different Monster Companions from CDS and MOVIES!!!

For Rampage Total Destruction: You should've mentioned some monsters have special abilities like how the aquatics heal from the water, especially my personal favorite Jill who also heals from electricity and generates a good boost of her rampage gauge, at least in the wii version she heals from electricity.

Another comment after finishing watching: First, the best part of Godzilla Unleased that was not mentioned is ITS BANGER AF SOUNDTRACK!! Second, you should DEFINITELY play Gigabash, especially if you're a fan of Pipeworks Godzilla games and want something new. It is genuinely a fantastic kaiju brawler with a great original roster, solid mechanics/ gameplay, and even several (albeit short) story modes for some of the monsters. And of course it has official Toho Crossovers to play as Godzilla (even Hedorah for the first time ever). This goes to literally any and everyone who enjoys kaiju and video games, PLAY GIGABASH!

Me and my brother actually sweatlorded war of the monsters with each other and so we found the meta. Lots of characters are viable but it is all about movement speed, your special, your fireball, your grabbing an item animation speed, and your ground pound because those are the only things that matter attacking gets carried for free etc. the best character is the Godzilla clone because he has above average health and a good fire all and you just kind of avoid any ground pound or special and stat fight.

It's weird it's like after the wii, ps3 and 360 era of gaming we just got a full stop on kaiju, movie and book games, movie and book games usually were terrible and that really hasn't changed much, but idk it's like most games feel so generic at this point, the ones that aren't usually do very well, but it feels like a few companies like nintendo or sega are the only ones who put out stuff constantly and even then they stay in their lanes, it feels like alot of companies just don't go all in or outside the box anymore, like a godzilla game intos time would be amazing but they seem to not wanna make games for the big guy anymore, but other kaiju games like surely someone out there wants to make one

Good video but immediately what came to mind for me that you were missing (besides Godzilla Generations dualogy on Sega Dreamcast and Gamera 2000's Panzer Dragoon-like gameplay on the PS1), were the Ultraman titlee on the PS2: Ultraman Ultraman Battle Evolution 2 Ultraman Battle Evolution 3 Ultraman Battle Evolution Rebirth Ultraman Nexus In all of these games, you could play aa the giant monsters that Ultraman fights, in vs mode. Very easy to play these games (well you could play them back in the day via modding the PS2, buying an import PS2, or buying Swap Magic disc for PS2 Slim) now via either PCSX2 emulation, HDD mod, USB flash drive, or MX4SIO memory card micro SD set up for PS2 Slim whio are cheap and run around $30 (or you can try to make one yourself)
