Someone did this calculation in Golf Digest or something YEARS ago. Question was "Does a golf tee slow down the driver head? If so, by how much?" After a long series of calculations, the conclusion said this: "Yes a golf tee slows down your driver head... about the same amount as a fly hitting your windshield while driving down the highway."

Was gifted a used one, the yellow XL version from a nice lady when I commented on her brush tees, she preferred the shorter ones. I like it enough that I'd probably get a new one when this one fails. Don't see a diff in distance, but haven't tried to measure that. *Pros* Good consistent height for my driver Stays in the ground, never look for a tee again (though i walked away from it once, lol) On grass range: tee up once, place ball, hit, repeat *Cons* Can take a little extra time to set up the ball, might be since it's been used Hard to aim the line on the ball towards target, which I like to do If the ground is hard it's a no go (but guess that's true for normal tees as well)
@paulwalsh96805 жыл бұрын
How about a 3-way comparison with pink castle tees? Could the consistency of tee height be a factor in dispersion?

You keep finding ways to surprise me with these videos! I expected no difference at all but the dispersal pattern was undeniable! A more consistent Tee height has to be the reason, right? It can’t just be the electric toothbrush head!! Let’s see a mid handicap test with these!

I'm a mid-capper (14.3), and I got some brush tees from my wife for Christmas. I don't have a launch monitor, so I can only provide anecdotal data. Let me first say that, at the price point they present, I would never buy them for myself, but my experience with them is totally positive. They last for hundreds of swings, but they're not indestructible. Eventually you'll lose enough of the bristles that they won't support the ball anymore. I use the driver size, which is bright orange, so they're hard to lose. A big plus is that I never have to guess about tee-height, no matter what the condition of the grass on the tee box, so my strikes are more consistent. And dispersion (because I do keep general track of that) has been better as well--not so much because of the design of the tee as a more consistent setup. Are my drives longer? I keep track of that also. They're marginally longer, but more important, the distance is more consistent--again, I think, because of the more consistent setup. That's kind of long-winded, but, in brief, I'm sold on these tees. Now if I can just make the ones I have left last until next Christmas....
@angel_of_death_666_5 жыл бұрын
James, you need to try the 4 more yards tees, seem to do well in all the tee tests.
@mattj33515 жыл бұрын
The spin is the key clue here! Your strike point in the face has moved as undoubtedly you’re teeing it at a different height. It would appear like the ball is higher with he brush thus giving you lower spin (higher strike on face) and ball speed slightly down (you’re not now middling the club). Wood tee you’re probably teeing it slightly too low.
@injuredtabletennisplayer14745 жыл бұрын
Used brush tees for a decade. My son used them through his successful high school career and they beat chasing tees on the driving range. The tees we used had longer drivers. And the fibers wore out and the ball would fall and it was harder to balance the ball. And had a difficult time driving the brush tee into the ground. Still have s few left...may go back to them. We’re using Birtees now.
@jrs45165 жыл бұрын
the spin reduction is interesting. is the brush slowing the bottom side of the ball at impact or just you hitting it higher on the face? and if the bristles are dragging significantly on the ball could it also be straightening some of the spin axis put on the ball? 50 ball test on each teal alternating every shot please :P
@paulg70025 жыл бұрын
I used them quite a bit in the past when I was playing at a 12-15 handicap. I just started playing again after 12 years and I will most definitely go back to them. I would say the benefit is consistent ball height when the tee is pushed down to the base. I don't think I noticed much longer drives, but they were straighter, and consitancy counts moer to me than distance. I think if they give me confidence, and like anything else, when I am more relaxed at address, it helps my swing be more fluid. why are the pros not using them, maybe it is harder to work the ball with purposeful draws or fades. I don't know the answer because I am not particularly long off the tee box, so I am just playing for down the middle.
@nigeleyre63065 жыл бұрын
Brush tees are not new i have used them, probably 5 to 10 years ago and they make no difference whatsoever. However they do break easily. I'd say that on tee boxes that are fairly firm that it would be quite difficult to use the bristled tee. In Australia even with well maintained courses the ground can get hard to the point of having to hammer a traditional tee into the ground (yes I have had to do this on many occasions).

I bought a 3 pack of these 8 years ago just to try and I've still got 2 of them. I use them every time I golf, which is quite often. The only reason i only have 2 is because the first one i used for about 6 years started losing bristles. Wooden tees always break, 5.50 for 3 of these and your set for 10 years or more. It's far cheaper in the long run

I am a 10 handicap. Have used them (orange 2.4") for several years and continue to buy. Whether it's psychological or not, I hit the ball straighter and a few yards further when using them. I consider straighter more important than longer. I can usually use one for 10-15 rounds before the bristles start to loosen or come out. You don't have to worry about losing them. Have never had the plastic on them break. Am a fan...try one before you dismiss the idea.

I've used these tees. My favourite thing was that they were impossible to loose. I think you've bought the wrong size for driver. You need a large orange or larger yellow one, with the shoulder pushed to the ground. You might see better results with the correct one. My review: After a year or so, the point fell off mine. I replaced the spike with a bolt sharpened to a point. The bristles get bent out of shape if you don't use the sheath but that is a faff! 4 stars. I prefer the 100mm rubber bristle ones that come in a pack of 10. Each one lasts around a year before the rubber bristles fall off. I got mine from eBay.

The brush tee is a multi tool, not only is it a tee, it is also pretty good at cleaning the grooves on your clubs. also can double as a tooth brush for those times you are stranded at the course for several days working on your short game.
@lefty84935 жыл бұрын
I use these. I can’t say they make me a better golfer. I’m a 28 handicap so everything I can do to help I will lol. what I can say is I’ve never lost one of these tees. They do wear out but £6 a year isn’t too bad. The reason you were having trouble teeing up is because of the matt. The base of the brush tee should be tight to the ground. It’s rare that my tee moves out of the ground. If it does I’ve hit too low and actually hit the plastic. I like them just the same as castle tees but even if these give me 1% extra I’ll still use them.
@calummunrp5 жыл бұрын
They are good when practicing with a driver on the range, grass range. They stay in the ground so you can hit lots of drives off the same height tee, without having to find the tee peg every time.

Reminds me of the “wedge” tee. Claim was they were indestructible, I never broke a single one. But tracking them down after you hit your tee shot was a time consuming nightmare. They would fly every which a way, a long way at that. I lost so many that flew into a pond at the front of the tee box, I started using regular tees anywhere near water. I guess maybe they didn’t get enough reps to break before they disappeared.

My boss that I played golf with was fanatical about golf (aren’t we all), and he swore by Brush Tees…I didn’t notice any improvement, and the brushes get a little tough to sit a ball on after a while…I would guess the results might be more dramatic if you have someone who hits down or level with the driver instead of hitting up (I’m assuming you hit up?)….

they do work (dramatically for me)! played in best ball tourney today and used wooden tees for first two drives... lets just say we didn't use either of those two shots (in fact the second shots ball was never to be seen again). hole 8 I pulled out my brush tee to check the difference; not only did we use my shot (7 yards from green) but we also used my approach which put us on for a three footer and the guys let me go first to see if I could convert for a true, solo birdie - I did. two holes later was the long drive contest of the tournament.... I won by about 5 yards (closest guy, Jamie was in my group (6ft 1" - IDK if that makes a difference, Im 5'9" 130lbs). IDK i thought people should see a true positive story about it all and it just so happens to be that this happened today, and I just happened to see this video in my feed for videos to watch when I got home. Awesome results for me, thanks.

Most people do not have the Attack angle that you and better golfers have. Can you try this by hitting down more or flatter like higher handicappers do. I have always thought that a normal tee that is tough to put in the ground with hard ground would then provide resistance to the ball that is not hit with an upward strike.(sorry long sentence)
