While the game was an atrocity and an insult to gamers, LOTR fans, and enjoyers of having a brain, I'm really not happy about Daedalic having to shut down after this. They were "forced" to make a game in a genre they knew nothing about. One of my all-time favourite games, Memoria, was made by Daedalic and I still to this day say it is criminally underappreaciated.

Heck if instead of stealth platformer they made it into their point and click adventure genre maybe this would be salvagable!! Stealth 3d game was entirely something new for this studio....heck if it was even a fraction of quality of say...Styx Master of Shadows or something like that....but hey potential existed even in such weird premise...but they wasted it with execution. If some other studio made this game...there would be potential for making it .....a sort of survival horror type game!! :) I mean if they showed in flashbacks the previous life of Gollum, his early days in the tunnels underground Misty Mountains, near Goblin-town, sneaking around, avoiding monsters and creatures in the caves and Orcs etc. (this flashback would allow also to use the power of the Ring as viable gameplay option :)) and also show more of that moral complexity, hell like the nasty rumors of Gollum: "The Woodmen said that there was some new terror abroad, a ghost that drank blood. It climbed trees to find nests, it crept into holes to find the young; it slipped through windows to find cradles."

They had no experience with 3D games, let alone 3D PLATFORMERS which a lot of designers struggle to make, but their higher ups took the deal. They were doomed from the start. And honestly, with the knowledge this was their first 3D game, it's a very decent showing! If they were an indie studio who popped it on Steam for like ten bucks, I think a lot of people would have been kinder to it. As it is, it's attached to one of the biggest franchises in fantasy and you have to pay full price for it, so...

Daedalic, the German developer who had never made a game of that scale before, had to cut content, diminish what content could stay, seek outside assistance such as hiring voice actors who are professionally trained to speak Sindarin, and were just overall forced to work under such conditions that would inevitably lead to crunching all the way to final release. Most developers don't go into making a game with the intention of making it bad on purpose, least of all unfinished, yet Nacon appears to have not done them any favors. Hell, they were the ones to put out that AI-generated apology without any input from Daedalic. Yet you want to sit here and claim they went and willingly risk both sullying their reputation and shuttering their entire internal development branch, putting many of their employees either out of work or being put in other positions on top of no longer getting to make games themselves anymore, just to pocket that sum total of 15 million euros? Which again, is considered a measly amount for a budget meant to fund a AAA game. Are we sure it's not you who could be the one that's out of touch here lol? But as for your other claim that you could make something similar in just three months and with presumably no budget, then I would have to say you probably could. Because unlike Daedalic, you're likely going to be able to do it without having any higher ups executively meddling in your creative process lol.

All jokes aside the stealth Lotr game had some potential....obviously ruined by total incompetence :) but despite being a very werd choice to actually focus entire game on Gollum? Well who would have thought :)...I mean fans of Tolkien have been waiting for a proper lotr rpg but hey who cares right...we will make Gollum game...they thought :) hehe but well they could have done so much better with this premise!!!!! If it was just a touch a bit like say....Styx Master of Shadows game then maybe it wouldn't be so terrible hardcore stealth games CAN be good :) and the lotr license should give room to amazing ideas for both story and gameplay opportunities.....and I think a lot of the opportunities are wasted.....they could have shown other locations than Mordor...certainly start elsewhere would have been preferrable....I mean it's also after the previous two games (pretty lore breaking ones also :)) Shadow of Mordor and it's sequel also were set in Mordor hehe....but always they somehow mess up on the true scope of what could be done with the Black Land!!! I mean some crazy evil sorcery, especially of Morgul Vale, twisted lifeforms and so on....various locations inside Mordor that has not been explored :).....anyway...if they allowed the flashbacks to explore Gollum's past, his early life, the finding of the Ring...also early life under Misty Mountains, in the tunnels of Goblin-town, that would also allow to use the power of the Ring, it's invisibility as gameplay mechanic and so on hehe the wraith-world the Unseen........the sneaking around the caves and tunnels, stalking Orcs and killing them barehanded, sneaking around their orc homes...then also the later period his travels around Mirkwood, and even to the streets of Dale and Esgaroth!
