The Good Neighbour is a new four-part docuseries created by Compassion Australia that explores the reality of poverty and how it has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This series gives a voice to the real stories of people living in poverty and explores the complexity of poverty and its devastating effects on the lives of vulnerable children. We look at Compassion’s holistic approach to development and dive into what the Bible says about poverty. The docuseries uncovers what it truly means for us to be a good neighbour to those who need our compassion the most.
Poverty is complex and about more than just income or material wealth.
Children living in poverty often suffer from poor health, violence, malnutrition, exploitation and a lack of access to education, setting the stage for lifelong destructive patterns. These are also accompanied by feelings of guilt, shame, powerlessness, inferiority and despair. Poverty has a devastating impact on every area of life, and to those living in it every day, it feels like something that cannot change.
This episode explores poverty through the lens of those closest to it. Learn about what poverty looks like in the developing world so you can be a good neighbour to the most vulnerable among us.
A compassionate neighbour knows how to respond to this question: what is poverty?
Episode two of The Good Neighbour, our new documentary series, will be available on September 28th, 2021, here on KZbin. To keep up to date with new episodes and other stories, subscribe to Compassion Australia’s KZbin channel.

My sponsor child, Rhazzel, is in the Philippines. It's been almost 6 years, since she couldn't write any English, to her telling me this year that she wants to be an engineer. Absolutely proud.

I think a film like this, weighted to spiritual poverty, rather than physical poverty could tip the balance and highlight our unmet spiritual needs here in the 'West'. In this way we are re-directed to God and away from money. In Him, we who are rich in physical resources, can give cheerfully to help those who lack physical resources, because we are rich in spirit. Wealth can be defined as ' a suitable accumulation of resources and possessions of value' But Jesus says "Labour not for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust with corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and vermin do not destroy, and where theives do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there will be your heart also"
