My sponsor child, Rhazzel, is in the Philippines. It's been almost 6 years, since she couldn't write any English, to her telling me this year that she wants to be an engineer. Absolutely proud.

Hopelessness. What a insanely simple, yet insanely complex and multifaceted way to describe poverty. Wow.

I think a film like this, weighted to spiritual poverty, rather than physical poverty could tip the balance and highlight our unmet spiritual needs here in the 'West'. In this way we are re-directed to God and away from money. In Him, we who are rich in physical resources, can give cheerfully to help those who lack physical resources, because we are rich in spirit. Wealth can be defined as ' a suitable accumulation of resources and possessions of value' But Jesus says "Labour not for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust with corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and vermin do not destroy, and where theives do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there will be your heart also"
