7:56 Just hit me - Simone actually is trying to hold herself back here, she's trying to phrase her problems with the book in a polite way that should be read as helpful criticism. And he starts ranting about the PC police. I mean, his attitude towards everything is terrible through he whole show, that's been obvious to everyone from the start. I'm only just realising how much she's actually trying here.

I personally agree with Brent. He wrote a novel and nobody gave him any constructive criticism. They only told him that the book was racist, but no one pointed to what was racist about it. Now, if they didn't like the name of the character based on Tahani, they should have just told him so. Because I can't think of any other criticism that they had about the book that Eleanor herself hadn't also said about Chidi and Tahani. Eleanor had been calling Chidi nerd and dork and had been sexualizing Tahani since season 1. Nobody called Eleanor a racist for doing the same stuff that Brent did. Moreover, Chidi punching Brent in the face when he knew why Brent pushed him was not very ethical. What would Chidi's ethical philosophy say about retaliation? For the record, Eleanor also called Tahani a condescending bench, but Chidi didn’t say anything about any of the insults that Eleanor constantly hurled at people, including when she slapped Jason in season two. Another problem with this episode is, Michael should not have been the one to talk to Brent. It should have been Eleanor because she was the one character who was the most like Brent. If the show had done that, it would have given Eleanor the chance to help someone whose name wasn't Chidi. Everything that Eleanor ever did for anyone else in the entire four seasons, either was because it helped herself or it helped Chidi. Yeah, I know she gave a guy back his wallet in season 3, but even that ultimately benefited her because she got to keep the soul squad together. Even her friendship with Michael in season two, started as a result of her telling him to stop torturing Chidi. In conclusion, the criticism of Brent’s book was a little juvenile, considering that Chidi, Tahani, and Simone were highly educated people who should have been better at mediating conflict. Yet, my biggest problem with this episode was, the writers never said how any of this got resolved.

I think Brent is their biggest chance for success. The purpose of the experiment is to show that humans can improve; they're trying to get them a better score in the neighbourhood than on Earth. What we know of Brent suggests his Earth score was... not great. Even this slow morph into a kind of crappy person is a huge improvement, whereas people like Simone, who seem average and decent, are harder to improve.

That part sucks because they've already said that no one has made the good place in thousands of years so how do the actual good people improve?
@derinedala50325 жыл бұрын
@@JKReacts So long as they can get *some * improvement (if Simone makes snap judgements about people then maybe forgiving Brent after he stops being such a crappy person will help her, or after they restore chidi's memories she can step aside for Chidi and Eleanor, or something) in ll four then they can get a review of the system and instill one that makes more sense, but my personal view is that the whole good place/bad place system is just nonsense from the ground up, starting with the very concept. But of course their job is to convince the judge to save as many people as possible, not be right, so they kind of have to play by her rules and overhaul this nonsense system instead of just tearing the whole thing down.

I agree the episode was not as great as some of the earlier ones. I think it could have to do with the choice of showing Michael telling all of this to Bad Janet. For me that got me out of the flow of the story and lessened the suspense. That babyboom joke though...worth it! And man, I guess it should be used to it right now but Brent continues to shock me with his awefulness ;)

I know you guys loved that joke, but... Brent's firmly in GenX. He's actually older than Chandler and younger than Joey.

They said he's nearly 60...

Aren't Joey and Chandler around the same age?

@@JKReacts Yeah, but the actor's barely in his 50s (he's 51). I like the joke, but Ted Danson is the only boomer on the show.
