I think this sequence elevates The Good The Bad and The Ugly (1966) from a great movie to a superb one
Truly, the best scenes on film often require no dialogue
And it solves the mystery of "where did The Man With No Name get his Poncho?"

I love this scene because throughout the movie you realize pretty quickly that the good isn't all that good. You might even think he's just as bad as the bad and just as manipulative and conniving as the ugly. But this scene shows that deep down he is good, but along the way he came to realize that the harsh world around him didn't necessarily cater to that. So he ends up pretty jaded and plays by the rules to survive. That's my take on it anyways.

@NathanCudgel 4 жыл бұрын
Alexeon Bel my take on it has always been that at the start of the movie the “good” is just as bad as the other two. He betrays people, kills people, lies, cheats, etc. But the defining factor that makes him the “good” over the other two is that unlike the other two he has the capacity to change. He goes from completely betraying Tuco and only looking out for himself, to teaming back up with Tuco willingly after the prison camp (he didn’t need to betray angel eyes and join back with Tuco) and helping destroy a bridge and saves many lives from the constant battles over it. I think this scene represents his final change into the character he is in the other films. Yeah his character is still anti hero, but has much more morals and will still do the right thing when push comes to shove. His donning of the famous poncho here shows his character arc is complete and that the we’re now dealing with the man with no name.

"I think this sequence elevates The Good The Bad and The Ugly (1966) from a great movie to a superb one" Call me an idiot, but i saw that movie like 6 or 7 times in the last 10-15 years, but i never noticed, that he took the poncho in that scene. It was too sneaky, they never show the poncho in a close up, when he sees and grabs it. Must've gone braindead everytime i saw this scene. I just concentrated on the gesture of giving the dying soldier his coat. So all these years i just thought, that he had that poncho on his horse somewhere. Knowing that he got that poncho in this honorable moment, elevates the movie from a superb one to an outstanding one.

I literally turned 35 yesterday and for me especially since it's the sign of getting older, to me this scene more or less captures the essence of appreciationg life even if it's the end of someone's life, appreciating and respecting their last moments even if u don't know them, it completed Blondies arc from badass gunman drifter who was making money to survive and running scams and casting them aside like what he did to Tuco at the beginning of the movie, to someone who's awareness from witnessing the aftermath of a huge battle in the middle of The Civil War. Just seeing how much he had matured in the course of this movie just by this one scene, to me I don't look at him the same way at this point as I did at the beginning of his journey in the movie. And for the part of real life for me, it's really starting to make me realize how fleeting life is and how precious everything is no matter how much or how little u know of anything or anyone. Take the time to appreciate anything in life, a cool drink, a breath of wind, sun beating down on you, the beautiful view of the sky. For me Blondie at this point even though he still may be a badass that will most definitely do what it takes to survive, after all he had done to cheat death before, this scene showed how much more respect he had for life.

For everyone wondering. this is a prequel and the previous actors in the movies are just playing different characters. The timeline the movies happen is The good, The bad, the ugly happens first it shows how he gets his poncho and his classic sheepskin vest and outfit and it’s set in the civil war. The second in the timeline is for a few dollars more it mentions the time it’s set in in a newspaper. then the last in the timeline is a fistful of dollars it shows the timeline by the the latest year on the gravestones. They happen completely backwards than the way they were released. I hope this helps 🥂

So the Dollars Trilogy was released to theaters in chronological order (1964,65,66-67) but the chronological timeline inside the movies first goes with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, next is For a few Dollars more, and lastly A Fistful of Dollars. It's a little confusing but I find it interesting.

He sends them it for them to use or as a keepsake, one of the two, I just don't remember where I read it. ✌️O.o

Blondie is rich by the end of A Few Dollars More, so it is a bit odd that he's still in the business if AFFOD is after, Plus, its so cool to imagine that A Fistfull of Dollars is the first time we see Blondie since he became the badass in TGBAU, with his iconic entrance & everything.
