Yes. Do see the movies. Takes a bit of patience; a slow vibe, but good vibe. You can't keep living your life not knowing about that part of social and cinematic history. Spaghetti Westerns. Ennio Morricone. Sigh.

They are VERY good movies. The correct names are: "A Fistful of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More", "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly". Sergio Leone/Ennio Morricone also have a 2nd epic trilogy: "Once Upon a Time in the West", "Once Upon a Time..The Revolution" [aka "A Fistful of Dynamite" in the UK, & "Duck, You Sucker" in the US], "Once Upon a Time in America".

I always find a classical orchestra so fascinating. Every sound is manually made. No artificial sounds. What really blows my mind is, someone put together a beautiful sound using such a wide variety of instruments, and instead of it coming out as noise, it comes out as a carefully choreographed masterpiece.

Symphonies / choirs will frequently place a singer, a horn, or any intrument they want to sound off in the distance, analog reverb if you will...... I was at a symphony one time and a trumpet player was in the adjacent room to give the impression of the coming army from off in the distance.... that is why the soprano's lady was in the balcony.. in this case it happened to add to the ambience of the performance.... imagine being there.... and the silhouette of Clint Eastwood on the front wall, imagine being such an icon that your mere silhouette is instantly recognizable.

In 1964, Clint Eastwood was working on the CBS Western TV series, "Rawhide" (about a group of men traveling from town to town across the South in long-distance cattle drives). He and his family wanted to go on a European vacation, but did not have the money to do so. Eastwood got an offer from Italian director Sergio Leone to work on a low-budget Western film in Spain. Clint Eastwood took the offer, because he could take his family on that European vacation for free (or something close to it). "The name of the 1964 film was "A Fistful of Dollars". Sergio Leone somehow found a US distributor to show the film in movie theaters, and "A Fistful Of Dollars" became a surprise hit. In 1965, "Rawhide" was cancelled by CBS, shortly after the untimely death of the TV series' star, Eric Fleming, who died in 1964 while making a film during the TV show's hiatus. Clint Eastwood had to focus upon being a full-time movie actor. Sergio Leone gave him an offer to do a sequel film to "A Fistful Of Dollars", and Eastwood accepted the offer that he badly needed. The film they made was "For A Few Dollars More" (1965). That film was also an international hit, and Hollywood was forced to take notice. And the rest is history.

The 2nd selection at 4:35 is called "Ecstasy of Gold." It comes later in the film when Tuco (Eli Wallach) is running through a cemetery frantically trying to find a particular grave marker. I think the brief passage at 6:38 is exquisitely beautiful. Great reaction.

Nobody can compose big, bombastic music like the Italians, G-d bless 'em. "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly". I don't like Westerns as a genre, but this is one of the most entertaining films of all time. The three main characters are continually fascinating, the acting, especially of Eli Wallach as "the Ugly" -- Tuco, is a revelation. The script is as perfect as a gem stone and the musical score works amazingly well with the direction. it will be one of the best three hours of your lives and it will feel much shorter.

I fully agree with your plan to be sure your kids know about our colorful music history. Before my son was born I decided on my strategy. I knew teens will come up with music selections parents cannot stand and I was listening to classical, country, 50's, 60's and some pop. I knew I needed to become more adventurous with my music to be able to have a chance at tolerating what he comes up with (glad I did). And my other goal was to expose him to every genre including a strong foundation with the classics and oldies. Be sure to go back to the oldies and learn about the foundations off todays music. Without them, our music today would be nowhere as exciting as it is. Thanks to all the musicians that have come and gone before us for blazing the trails of creativity.

The good, the bad, and the ugly is one of the best western movies ever made, and the movie score is a BIG part of why it is that good. Ennio Morricone composed the entire sound track for it, as he has done for a large number of movies and he's famous for his storytelling music style. This song in particular is a fan and orchestra favorite, because this is literally being played by any and all self-respecting orchestras on the entire globe. The Ukulele orchestra of Great Britain also did a fantastic version of this.. and loaded it with a good sense of humor to boot (humor is a big part of their performances) Also, now i am less worried if you would enjoy Nightwish because that happens to be (Orchestral) Symphonic Metal, but now i know you like epic and orchestral.. i'm pretty sure you will enjoy that band. (just a little heads-up, Nightwish comes with a HUGE fan base called "The Nightwish Army" and many of them roam KZbin 24/7 for reaction videos on their favorite band and singer ;) ) Thnx for the reaction man, i do love them classics hehehe

This score was written, arranged and conducted by one man, Ennio Morricone. The amazing thing about it was that he wrote it without ever having seen the film. He was given the script before production began by director Sergio Leone and wrote the score based on that. Leone was so blown away by it that he and the film's writers rewrote large parts of the script to match up to the mood Morricone set with his score. Mind-boggling . . .

One of Ennio Moricone's classic movie scores. You should try his score from "Once Upon A Time In The West". There is a video out there combining the original score from the movie with Edda Dell'Orso humming it from 1968 and then the version with words called "Your Love" recorded in 2014 by 14 Year old Jackie Evancho. Both versions are backed by scenes from the movie and are hauntingly beautiful..

I really enjoyed watch you listen to this, you really took it all in, but I have to tell you I started to laugh my butt off at how many times you missed the body hanging over the Orchestra!

What is so amazing to me is because I didn’t have to buy a ticket all the way from Los Angeles to Denmark and purchase a ticket to get seats out in the audience because the seats out in the audience did not get this perspective of the cameras flying around to all the individual playing all their instruments which was so stunning and amazing and special which makes us so beautiful as well as the composition and everything it was involved with that

I would have loved to see Amber’s reaction to this! Thanks for sharing my favorite movie theme done in this concert. The same night they also did the theme from “Once Upon a Time in the West”, well worth listening to! 😎

Ennio Marricone did the musical score for this as well as many other movies of the time. I strongly recommend the movies. They are rated R, but if your kids are allowed to watch The Avengers, they will be fine with these movies. (time has changed, ya know.) The trilogy of movies is referred to the "Dollars trilogy". But, they can be viewed in any order. The stories are not connected. They follow Clint Eastwoods character as he wonders the country side in the old west. Also, if you've ever seen the "Back to the Future" trilogy, the third one is a major hat-tip to "A Fistful of Dollars", which is the first of the Dollar Trilogy. "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" is the third of the trilogy.
