Since nobody seems to have mentioned that this is a film score I advise you to watch the movie. It's about 3 hours long but every component is great. Great music, great scenery, great plot, great acting and great cinematography. You won't even notice that you have been sitting still so long that you are sore until after the movie has finished.

This video is from one of this orchestra's live performances. The music played here is actually two pieces from the movie, the first being is the Opening score, the second piece is called the ecstasy of gold sequence where Tuco finds the cemetery where the gold is hidden. What also makes this an iconic video is that the Orchestra is Danish, playing music composed by an Italian, and conducted by an Japanese-American. Truly an international flavor here as well. Oh and as usual I am tearing up listening to this, this performance seems to truly touch me deep in my soul and triggers an emotional response.

This is fantastic Aliyah - thank you for reacting to this. The Danish Orchestra does a brilliant job, as always. Here, I have always liked the conductress and the way she reaches into the sky. Ennio Morricone was simply a genius. He was not just a composer and conductor, he was also a trumpeter which explains the impressive trumpet parts in his music. Without his music, those famous Westerns and also The Mission would have been less successful. His collaboration with Sergio Leone was a once-in-a lifetime occurrence. Ennio and Sergio brought the American Western industry to its knees. Every minute in those movies was a work of art. I could go on.... but people are beginning to yawn 😭 For you Aaliyah, if you haven't seen The Good, the Bad and the Ugly I strongly recommend you watch it. Watch out for the two words spoken by Clint Eastwood (Blondie) - "You dig" 😮 Greetings from cowboyland y'all! 🤠

Great review! I have since learned from watching many reviews of this musical score that the conductor, Sarah Hicks, is from the Minneapolis Orchestra. I live in MN and I definitely need to attend one of her concerts. I “borrowed” the following from another person’s review but I think this was some excellent information … “”The conductor here is an American "guest" conductor for this concert. Sarah Hicks is the principal conductor of the Minneapolis Orchestra, graduate Magna Cum Laud with a BA degree in music composition from Harvard University. Sarah is highly sought after as a "guest" conductor the world over and has worked with dozens of orchestras all over the word in both hemispheres. What does a conductor do? In this case Sarah chose all of the music for this concert which centered on Ennio Morricones' Spaghetti Western movies sound tracks. She spent hours studying the entire score, making notes as she went along that she would later share with the musicians during rehearsal, She then rehearsed the Orchestra and choir sharing her vision for the various songs, what the dynamics would be, play softy here, a bit more fortissimo (with force) there, establishing what the tempo will be, applying her leadership to inspire these very "Top Shelf" musicians to project her vision of the music and concert. Sarah does have a series of KZbin educational videos addressing this very question that you asked: "What does a conductor do?'" She is quite an impressive young lady, very talented and, I feel quite gifted!””

Ennio Morricone was a true genius. One story I read about him was he was working on a film and the score wasn’t working. He left and said he’d be back with the revised music. He returned 72 hours later with a complete score with all the necessary parts arranged and the score worked perfectly.

I think the multiple trumpets starting at 4:51 reflect the chaos of the civil war scenes from the movie - competing sounds of bugles communiicating battle plans, clearly audible to each side, and yet each with a different battle order - and in the movie - right afterward the death of the young soldier and the captain speaks to the futility of the war and I think the competing trumpets captures some of this.

Just remember, people did this...a group of people, different backgrounds and nationalities, all pulling together and if ONE single note is out of place, ONE, the entire piece is ruined...I can't imagine the hard work, discipline and raw talent that goes into this, none of us will...OK having said that, this is from legendary composer Ennio Morricone (1928-2020) and among many others scores, this is his crowning achievement and many of todays composers have been heavily influence by him, legend just isn't enough, the director of this movie was Sergio Leone (1829-1989), another director who has also influenced many others like Martin Scorsese and Quinten Tarantino, legend doesn't do him justice either, both these men are way beyond that....OK the orchestra itself, world renowned and just listen to what else they have done... Tuva Semmingsen (Wah Wah) is a Norwegian Barocco and Mozart mezzo-soprano singer, she's wearing gun shaped earrings to boot! There's a harmonica in sync with her during those wah wah's and check out her other works, (Bang Bang), Christine Nobo Anderson is another beautiful singer, you have to have, besides the raw talent, an incredible amount of training to control your diaphragm and breathing to use such an instrument, the entire piece is just amazing and really is the only event I would pay a grand a ticket to see.
