"Quick, Moriarty, cover the soap dish!" "But it's empty!" "But we don't want people to know that!" Absolutely classic!

I was a student in Cleveland, Ohio the summer the *very polluted* Cuyahoga River caught fire! This episode was played many times on WCLV-FM's Saturday Night program. We loved the irony!

It's insanity like this that keeps me sane.

Thanks! I was 8 when my parents banned me from listening to this show. Now they're dead and I'm listening at last! Goonness and truth always triumph in the end. It'd be helpful if you could give the year of original transmission. Then I could figure out how old I am. Accept this voluntary donation of a photograph of a Postal Order for 3/6. Thanks.

This version has some lines that were not in the first issue of this (the spelling of penguin bit), but it is missing Wallace Greenslade sing/talking "See You Later, Alligator" to his rapturous fan base and the musical spots with Max Geldray and Ray Ellington.

I thought Wallace the pelvis was on this one!

Am I missing something, or is this episode impossible to get on a cd?

It was published on vinyl, I have a copy in a closet. Yes, alas, those episodes are omitted from the CDs the BBC sells. I'll look it up when I get home. ral@msbit.com

Did Max and Ray get cut to get it down to 20? This RP had awesome music.

I owned most of the Goon Show collections on cassette (many, many, years ago.) Some of them were published by BBC and others published by EMI. If I remember correctly the EMI collections were all without Max and Ray, I suspect it's something to do with copyright\licencing, but I may be wrong.

I prefer Ray and Max to Max and Ray

The Goon Show was the first BBC comedy where the musicians were regularly written into the script.
