I think that the D may actually means something different for each charachter. Like luffy's D stands for Dawn, it's pretty much confirmed at this point. But notice that many words with D are important to the story: Destiny, Dreams, Dragons... My initial theory was that St. Jay's fruit was an amalgamation of multiple fruits into one, possibly achieved by scientific experiments. There were some clues, like Lunarian'esque fire above Jay's neck in some panels, the black scarf alluding to impurity similarly to BB's fruit, all the WG ties to human exploitation and the development of technology by using others as tools. Also the fact that using multiple fruits is possible since BB has done it. I was trying to understand his powers with any form of science, but this chapter completely debunked me.

Assuming all devil fruits are like the Nika fruit, it's possible that they pick which of their users get a secondary awakening, and given how weapons can become sentient after they are "eaten" by said weapons can't be a non believer. 2. Going off the assumption of Devil fruits having sentient's Nika could be the sworn enemy of Imu's fruit in which case Narona Imu is just a meat puppet. 3. Monkey D. I have a theory that the gorosei are all demons that is summoned by imu. That's why they are immortal and Saturn was able to summon them. They don't need devil fruit because they are the origin of devil fruit itself. The origin of devil fruit is a God or devil that grants wishes. For example if they wish for some strange power the god/ demon will grant it. This could also be tied with christianity which is the tree of wisdom ( in this case is wishes) and the devil. In luffy's case, maybe joyboy or the first one to eat that fruit wishes for freedom or power against oppressor(demons/ devil fruit users). And going back to Imu, he could be the host of these demons (gorosei) since the devil fruits which contains devil/ gods needed a host. The gorosei are parasites that needed to be fed for their immortality to retain their body since they are summoned by different circumstance that's why they needed sarcrifices (souls like big mom's devil fruit) that's why they serve imu to provide them food in exchange of power.

I think that the devil fruits are originally called dream fruits, and it could have been smeared by the gorosei as a way to stop someone from eating the nika fruit, labeling it the "devil" fruits. I want to make it a connection to the D initial but that would be a stretch and I have no evidence for it, but I think the fruits and the D initial might be closely tied. I think it places credence to the Imu = the sea or abyss theory, since the fruits weakness is the sea.

I'm waiting for the day when King Taco's hat (from the reverie) becomes also another summoning circle discussion. I bet there are more examples of this throughout One Piece we've missed. The fruits are likely conduits to connect back to someone's will who has long since died and is trapped in the underworld. The fruit ISN'T a requirement, but being in tune with haki and the underlying strength of character is. We know brook found his way back and then he proceeded to have strength of character to live on that ghost ship for 50 years. He's a tough cookie. Luffy's dream is probably related to seeing people who have died again. Look at the crew reactions again. Judging by the image presented at 13:41 i would assume that imu is similar to doflamingo just one league above him. Doflamingo was "banished" out of the society of celestial dragons into peasant society, while imus has been banished from an actual higher plane of existence, not just a social one, in to the human world. So it could actually be that imu is not really imu, since the original imu was just one among the 20 kings.
