THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ANDRÉ chronicles the life and career of André Leon Talley, former Vogue magazine editor-at-large and one of the fashion industry’s and New York culture's most influential icons. Beginning his career at Andy Warhol’s Factory in the 1970s before climbing the ranks of the New York fashion editorial world, Talley made a lasting impact by pushing to include African-American models and designers in such major publications as Women’s Wear Daily, W, and Vogue magazine. Today, his judgment is sought by top designers, stylists, and celebrity clientele. Featuring fashion luminaries such as Anna Wintour, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Valentino, and Manolo Blahnik testifying to André’s gifts, the film traces his journey with rich archival footage that summons multiple eras of stylish and outlandish clothing.

I always loved how he was always himself "on high beam". Be damned what anyone thinks - to do that in the face of discrimination and prejudice was an inspiration. He's left a towering legacy that I hope Anna Wintour writes about in her tribute to him. He's earnt it.

I watch this film last night and it was so interesting but also sad. The discrimination you can tell he has had to deal with kind of upset me a bit. The shit people have to put up with in this world. He came across very genuine and kind and old school. I recommend you watch this documentary. Very moving and inspirational

It is so endearing how he so nonchalantly says "he just had to get on with his life and his career" as in saying 'haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate. You can not reflect the essence of absorption in another human beings hate and criticism that which seeks to damage your self esteem, your esteem, your confidence, but it does happen, it can happen. This is a nice deflection of name calling, labeling, an assessed judgement which was taken as hurtful.

I was born in 1942 in Chicago, Illinois, and was educated there, and earned all my income there by honest work, and taking responsibility for my life, and helping non beggars help themselves. I am back in Mexico, for the safety, beauty, and the cleanliness of Queretaro, Mexico. I do speak Spanish as a second language. Do what you have to do to survive. Always do you. Rent and utilities were too expensive, so I had to take my pension and I moved to Mexico on 11-2-2021. I have been coming to Mexico , since 1962, and beautiful Acapulco is my love, but the earthquakes is why I did not retire there. At 79, I had to leave the USA due to deadly crimes, high rents and utilities. I am happy in Queretaro, Mexico. Thank you God.

Andre was the prettiest boy! hahaha.... He inspired me very much, and made me think of the things we both admired in the southern man's upbringing. He spoke of those who represented cultivation of a subject, career, and exemplified success in whatever. I had always liked him since the early 90s, but in this case I thought of my teachers; the literature teacher Garnet Gray, Otha Sermons, Lulah Hedgeman, and those types; my great teachers before the stars I worked with such as Virginia Zeani and John Wustmann, and so on. Some of the others were equally impressive, or more but embodying an array of quality, like June Thomas, a blessed woman. This should be good.

Here's another fun fact. At the beginning of The Clip, you saw him with Drag Queen Legend Divine who in The UK had the Top Ten Smash "You Think You're A Man" done on Top Of The Pops the UK equivalent of American Bandstand. It was Produced by Pete Waterman who along with his Partners Mike Stock & Matthew Aitken were legends as a successful Songwriting/Producing Trio in the 1980's. They worked with so many other folks from Banarama who were the first and only Girl Group from The UK to do American Bandstand, Dead Or Alive, Rick Astley & Princess amongst others. Simon Cowell used to follow him around like a Punk trying to to get his foot in the door, and later Pete would host The Hitman & Her that helped acts from 911 and Atomic Kitten get their foot in the door not to mention POPSTARS: The Rivals that launched the Career of Girls Aloud who are to this day the most successful Group to come out of Reality TV.
