The Gospel According to Mark read by David Suchet

Mark is the earliest of the Gospels, the one written closest to Jesus’ lifetime. It is short, urgent, passionate and dramatic and reads a little like a front-line despatch from Christ’s life and death. Often we hear the Gospels in short sections, but it can be a revelation to read - or hear - the whole of the story at once.
Just before Holy Week, we will have a unique opportunity to hear the Gospel of Mark in its entirety, read by one of the great actors of our times in St Paul’s Cathedral. The evening will be a dramatic reading of the Gospel, without commentary.
David Suchet is one of the best-known and best-loved actors of his generation. He has worked for the RSC, in the West End and on Broadway, and his most famous role is Hercule Poirot in the long-running television series. In 2011 he was awarded a CBE for services to drama, and in 2014 was given a lifetime achievement award by the Royal Television Society for his performance as Poirot. Raised without religion, he was converted by reading Romans 8 in a hotel Bible.
A practicing Anglican, he has made highly successful BBC documentary series following in the footsteps of St Paul and St Peter, is Vice-President of the Bible Society and his best-selling audio book of the Bible, released in 2014 by Hodder, fulfilled a 27 year ambition.

I can’t begin to describe what a tour de force this reading is. I have produced and narrated audiobooks myself. To walk up, stand there, give this reading non stop, and not mispronounce a single word, is astonishing. To do this non stop and not break for a sip of water defies me. In such a beautiful setting as well, we need to bring back beauty into our churches and start teaching the gospel again not this fake inclusion for all even at the sake of accepting your sin. I miss beautiful churches and traditional teachings, it’s a rarity now to find a church that would even be willing to read the whole gospel of mark anymore. Too many churches look like dark concert halls that are all about what you get out of it. We need beauty and the reverence of being in the presence of the Lord. His house deserves to be beautiful, his word definitely is.

If you have been reading the bible for 40 plus years you must have noticed many many glaring differences between what it teaches and what Catholic dogma teaches. The bible says call no man father upon the earth...Rome says no..call priests father. The bible says there is one mediator between man and God, Jesus Christ...Rome says no...it's Mary In the bible graven images and images of God made to look like corruptible man are forbidden....Rome says no it's ok. The bible teaches not to communicate with the dead....Rome says pray to dead men (saints) The bible teaches the 7th day was hallowed as the Sabbath (Saturday)....Rome says we prefer to retain pagan traditions and worship on the venerable day of the sun the 1st day instead. I could go on and on citing the transgressions, but I hope this is enough to atleast get you to take this to our heavenly Father in prayer and ask to be shown the truth.

People are really not stupid it just shows one can look at scripture and compare to other scripture and back their views up. I still believe there is one "truth" we should keep seeking for . I know. Part of it is his voice, but there are also a lot of subtleties he is adding that simply amount to talent, aka the "It factor." I have some experience in professional public speaking and theatre from my work in a Historic House Museum. Not everyone could pull this off and at times it's difficult to pin down exactly what he brings to the reading that others can't. Nonetheless, most of us know when we experience talent for public speaking. To paraphrase Prince (you hopefully know of the deceased musician I'm referring to, RIP) "if you can say what it is, it isn't funky."

its always been my favourite. 'The widows mite' I heard it when I was very young, about 6....and I cried. The teacher explained it beautifully to us. Its stayed with me all my life, most of it as a non Christian....deep down, I always knew Christ was my Lord and Saviour. And I love him so much, life is amazing again, like when I was a little child. Before the 'world' tried to take God from me ....and everyone else.....I pray more of us reject the world for Christ, and are saved.
