I am not just cooperating, I'm encouraging everyone to share their personal data to help combat disease and medical issues, like cancer. I've seen the future of medicine and it's wonderful. I have also had issues with strange autoimmune problems that could not be diagnosed and I had to fix myself with the help of the internet. This is exactly my point: our current approach to medicine is almost medieval. The information is now available, all we need is more testing and data collection and the role of a doctor will almost be obsolete, they will just be the face of presenting the scientifically arrived at treatment. You will not be able to fight the changes that are coming. Within the next 10 years people will start monitoring all their biometrics and optimising health, and we'll see people consistently making it into their 100s or even 110s. It will change life, our adolescence will be extended, more chance to learn and experiment with life and become more well rounded people. And most importantly, people may delay having children until later in life (a process which will also be done mainly in a lab). Don't try and fight this change, it is futile, just try and shape it to the sort of future we want to see. Addressing misdiagnosis should be a priority, I agree. But I am offering a solution: and it's not probiotic yoghurt.

I also know a lot about nutrition as I have an interest in increasing human longevity (I'm 43 and my wife is 25 so I wanna live a long time!). I know all about gut health. I have personally been vegan for the last 20 years, and I'm the only healthy and fit bodied member of my obese family... All these issues are great passions of mine. Just to be clear, the issues raised in this video was news to me - and everyone I mentioned it to had no idea either. To me, this just reinforces the lack of transparency from the UK government and NHS Digital up to this point. When I say that this video caused 'ripples', I just mean that, of over 3 million subscribers to this channel, probably a large number of people (like me) we're unaware of the situation and so clicked on the link to find information on how to opt out. I think it's a very worrying trend for all of us when you're automatically 'opted in' to something by default and have to jump through hoops just to 'opt out'. Most people don't because it's too confusing and inconvenient. Sadly, this is becoming standard practice.

The thing I find particularly worrying, is that hardly any GP practices are telling their patients that unless they sign and return a "Type 1 opt-out" form to the practice, the practice WILL hand over patient details to NHS Digital. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from GP practices, all because they don't want to deal with extra paperwork 😡. For everyone reading this, if you value your privacy, make sure you complete a "Type 1 opt-out" form and return it to your GP practice. That is far more important than the national online opt-out.

Hi Russell ... I have just moved back to Australia after more than 20 years in the UK. Recently I had to ask for my UK medical records for my Australian doctor. I was totally amazed at the 75 pages of data. I am a person who hardly ever goes to the doctor so it is hard to imagine the volumes of notes that some files must contain. As I waded through my notes I could hardly recognise that I was reading bits about me. The notes are written in another person's perspective and some of it does not relate to the actual truth as I believe it to be at the time. Conversation are recorded and interpreted by your GP. I considered our conversation strictly private. Now I am in Australia I can see how much data is gathered as I am faced often with 'becoming part of the system' . I am often questioning why certain information is required and opt out of as much as possible but this is very limited as the system will not allow me to step forward without compliance. The other fact that bothers me is the inaccuracy that is in the system recorded in my record. Recently at Centrelink a massive drone of government bureaucracy housing employment, benefits and medical data promoted as the place to go for helping you in the said areas, I was informed that there is an agreement between UK and Australian government that information is shared on certain data. They had information in Australia about child benefits etc I had received in UK plus much more. I was gobsmacked. Did I give permission for This? I certainly don't remember. The other thing is that there is incorrectly recorded facts. I was told that the system says I am receiving a disability pension from the UK. Well I am not disabled so not sure what that is about. And now wonder how much data is accurate anyway. Apart from opting out as much as possible, it is difficult to know what can be done. To much protest will also get me labelled and put into another system.

But in the end he found out that you can only opt out if you get and return the form physically in paper form back to your GP in time.

There are two things you need to fill in. Digital data opt out can be done online. Then you also need to print out the form (Type 1 form I think it was) and fill in and hand to your GP practice. My GP wouldn't let me in this morning, I had to sneak in after someone exited. When I handed in the form the receptionist didn't know what to do with it!

I've noticed that opting out of info disclosures here in the US has to be renewed fairly often, as within these contracts there are usually clauses stating that the company retains the right to change their contracts without notice. So they do make minor changes, which defaults your initial opt-out to 'accept'. I've gone through these every couple of months, just to make sure my settings remain the same, and change them if they've defaulted out of what I want. Highly recommend everyone be vigilant across the board. Russell makes an Excellent point by reminding us that we do not have to accept this. Don't!

In Australia there’s a medical register as well as a seperate immunisation register that unsuspecting people are automatically opted into, ( I had previously opted out, just to accidentally find out that my GP had opted me in without my consent) which you have to contact them to opt out. Problem is most people don’t know about it, especially the immunisation register, which up to a month ago that I know of you were still able to opt out of. Any Aussies out there should call Medicare and opt out, and ask for a letter of confirmation. We have recently just gone through this in Australia. I opted out but who knows what data they are stealing? How would i know? Scary future
