@@algorithmgeneratedanimegir1286 It's not really a surprise for the French version, from what I remember, before the "boom" of manga/anime in the USA/NA from recent years, France was the second country behind Japan in terms of readers/purchase of manga. And according to Wikipedia: "France represents about 40% of the European comic market and in 2011, manga represented 40% of the comics being published in the country." In the 80-90' up to the 2000, anime was bought for TV and there were even French-Japanese collaborations of them ("Ulysses 31" or "Mysterious Cities of Gold" for example). I would also think that censorship in the USA could have been another reason why, but maybe some English publisher could pick it up now I guess.

Who's to say a studio in another country can't adapt it?
@v.e.l.pianist78486 ай бұрын
The costs to do so are incredibly high and it is not guaranteed to be a hit too, so best case scenario a minor studio could animate enough of the story to act as an inspiration to read the source material. The danger of getting legal suits placed on your studio for defamation etc deincentivize this investment though... rather pray that it stays without adaptation as it'll no question get turned down in its defining aspects aswell as/or pushed in current-socio-political directions it never had anything to do with and thereby ruined.

Great video. I think an adaptation of that is only viable IMHO if not just the violence is toned down but if the corrupt government/business/criminal group does not resemble real-people and/or done in a very cartoonish way (Mr. Robot comes to mind). Also, feels like this manga feels part of the overall extreme stuff coming out of Japan at that (Battle Royale & Ichi the Killer for example) even if the discontent and disillusionment with the way democracy works in Japan (or in other places, just can pick one country) continues but has increased. They would rather do something more akin to Eden of the East or using something else as base (like Shin Gojira did)

As long as there is free will, there will always be evil. But denying free will is also evil I would rather like to see this manga have a more psychological and philosophical approach of evil. One thing I can point out is that it lacks some notable villain characters like the more calculative ones who pushes the main character to questioning his own morality and purpose of approaching evil while he also ends up killing or destroying the life of innocent people on his self-righteous crusade. A good example can be Rooftop Swordmaster where the main character attempts to punish all the evil only to end up involving innocents. Another to point out is that the manga did not show the prisoners on death row, terrorist groups, doomsday cults or hardcore criminals who are not lawyers, bankers, or politicians because evil also exist underground and not in spotlights. Frankly, I think the main character's own agenda was to target politicians, lawyers, and bankers which not caring about the ones underground can be considered evil. One thing to question the main character's acts is that does his method lead a civilization to prosperity and paradise? Or desolation and hell? Because the only way to destroy evil, is to rule it with fear. And fear, is also evil.

I remembered reading this when it first came out and not really understanding the context around it. I thought politicians acting like scum was the norm, especially when they are far removed from common man. (The police schemes taught me how to avoid them. You know, when the end of the month comes around and the cops want more money, they start writing more tickets. This means entrapment of sorts by catching you making basic driving mistakes that could be interpreted as breaking the law.) The ending though, that ending is messed up to an extent. If I recall correctly, the entire operation basically was a cover for destroying the cloning technology, because of how dangerous and evil it was, and also as a nod to all of those who died due to government screw ups. He saves the girl who fell in love with him, by making one last clone of her, while destroying every hidden base that he operated out of. Japan does start to recover, but the old corruption never went away.

I have been a fan of this since it came out and was there day by day as it released. I was literally just thinking about it yesterday. Thank you for making this video

Biggest issue is that Mappa would definitely be the type of studio to pick this up, unfortunately it's one of the most inhumane studios so I can't say I'm looking forward to whatever masterpiece they choose to animate

The problem with Akumetsu is that it has an almost childishly naive idea of "why governments are bad" and what constitutes corruption.

I've read about 30ish chapters of Akumetsu, and it's a really great manga, Shou is essentially, as you stated, a mortally grey vigilante 💯.

Akumetsu is a damn masterpiece. It's cathartic in the best way, while having a good story, art, and characters. I binged it over the course of a weekend and i loved nearly every second of it.
