Remember that these recommendations (particularly in the _used_ market) are based solely on our value calculations derived from eBay sale prices as of early August '23. All of our data going back to 2021 is included in a spreadsheet linked in the description. Feel free to download and manipulate the figures to your liking. For example, you can replace any "ESP" with the exact price of a card in question you're looking at on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc. to determine whether or not it's a solid buy. I use it this way for my own used graphics card purchases and wanted to share it with all of you.

You guys in america are so lucky with the graphics pricing. In germany they're much more expensive. RTX 3070 costs 450~ euro. I'd have upgrade to a 3080 or 3080ti already if prices were like in NA. I still have my gigabyte rtx 2070 super I bought for 515 euro before corona prices went up. That card at one point was worth 1300 euro.

I have a 3090 Asus Tuf, and let me tell you, in certain titles, it will peg out the 24gb of vram. I picked up a 4070 and was pretty shocked with the dlss performance difference with it being greater. But, in titles where the vram pegged out 24gb on the 3090, the 4070 fell behind. So from my testing, some titles that can utilize more memory give a better gameplay experience from the large cache and helps with micro stutters, especially at higher resolutions and hertz.

The problem with older cards is also driver support and lack of DX12, its best to do some research before getting something which could have been mined on as well. The AMD stuff has aged a lot better due to being used in the PS4, and RDNA being in the PS5. I've tested a 5600XT with some older CPU's, and I found that even something old like a Haswell i7 can be a good match for a budget 1080p rig.

I ended snatching up a evga 3090 ftw 3 used for $950 canadian nearly a year ago when crypto fell. Its too bad people started to catch on to the steal the 3090 was for a while. The 24gb of vram is so much better than the 4070 ti's 12gb and it can still hold its own against the 4070 ti. I get the argument of a warranty and dlss 3 but the 4070 tis are still over $1000 canadian so for me it was a no brainer at the time to risk it on a used 3090

My little nephew is 17 years old and I swear this kid has the best luck of any kid I've ever seen in my life. He picked up a Strix RX 580 at a garage sale for 30 bucks. From an older lady that was getting rid of it because her grandson didn't live with her anymore and she didn't have no use for it. He said that she thought it was a video game console, she called it a Nintendo. 😄 This thing looked like it just came off the damn shelf. Still in the retail Box, in the bag, had the stickers, the manual, the whole nine I asked him, "did you tell her what it was and let her know that you know it was worth more than that? He said that he did and he offered her $65 for it and she turned it down because he was honest with her and she said she'd appreciated it. I'm so proud of him. Got to teach these youngsters nowadays to be honest no matter what I've been holding out for about 4 years on getting a card, still kicking with the 1080 TI I'm looking to get that 7800 xt if the reviews turn out okay. Take it easy my man, God bless you and you're beautiful family and have a wonderful day.

I picked up a reference 5700 XT that was for parts for 87 including tax and shipping. They just said it didn't display a signal. Turned out is was a corrupt bios and a flash fixed it. However, the temps were HORRIFIC even for a blower. Like 95C tdie at only 140W with the side panel off due to a mega undervolt/clock I did. I cracked it open and there were two VRM's missing thermal pads and the die's thermal pad had been replaced by a horrible paste application that left two corners completely uncovered. I fixed both these issues and temps dropped by TWENTY DEGREES, and that's after putting the side panel back on. Its currently chilling in my Unraid/gaming server

Greg, good video. Your analysis aligns with other sources, such as Tom's Hardware's GPU Hierarchy (but they don't get into the "bang for the buck" in the new and used market like you and other KZbinrs do). Also appreciate the summary of the best buys for new purchase at the front of your video, and that you kept it simple to the 2x AMD 6000 cards (concur with the 6700/50XT -- have had a 6700XT for over a year and very happy with my switch to Team Red). Would have liked a little more depth though on your methodology -- perhaps a little more explaining or example of how the 3DMark and pricing numbers plug into your spreadsheets to get the results on your summary chart. Also up front would highlight your analysis is targeted for the everyday Joe user at 1440p & 1080p (not the 4K user who can probably afford a more expensive rig, especially GPUs and monitors) -- and then why even buy a RTX 3090 if you're going to game or video edit at no higher than 1440p? Overall though, I think your video is very useful for the mainstream consumer, and I look forward to your future updates like these for my gaming and workstation needs. 🤓

I recently bought a used ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080Ti on a local auction site, for $283 (delivered). It came with a Strix waterblock, as well as the separate factory fan/backplate assembly. Sold off the waterblock, netting me a price for the card of just under US$230. However, the plastic fan socket locking tab on the PCB was broken and I could not get a solid connection with the fan assembly plug. Enter the ubiquitous small black tie wrap to save the day. Card runs flawlessly stock, though I did implement an undervolt to reduce overall power draw and temps. I like the 2080Ti (11GB VRAM) because a good example can be found for well under $300 in today's market. It also pairs nicely with my X99TF / turbo-unlocked XEON E5-2696v3 / 64GB DDR4 build.

Solid market info. 1070s for $100 is still a solid card. 10 series punches well above it's weight-class and 8GB of Vram will not disappoint. The RX5600 & 6600 seem like a better deal than the 480/580. I personally am not the biggest fan of the 480s & 580s but I have a bias because I had a 480 that lasted about 4 weeks and it was a used unit so I was just S.O.L. had to limp around with an R9 380 for a while until I could hop back to team green on my GTX 1080ti... I still have my dual fan EVGA black edition. Of course now I am on a 5600x + 3060ti on my ITX main rig and I could NOT be happier with my rig and the performance fits my needs well.

I have an old r7 1700x that i replaced with a r5 5600x got it for 100 bucks new, the motherboard i have now is a msi b550 gaming plus, can i just drop in the r5 or do i have to flash the bios? When i bought the MB i was told i would not have too.. tyvm. Also i love when you say a 6700 for 270. Lol i paid 600 for a xfx 6700xt when the prices were still outrageous.

I recently purchased a used 5700 XT from eBay and although there were some listings for around $150, most were selling closer to $120. I was able to get one for $115 shipped. At that price it is a MUCH better value than either the 5500 XT or 5600 XT.
@GregSalazar
@GregSalazar 9 ай бұрын
Our average sales price for the 5700 XT came out to $150. Of course, not ALL of them will be priced this way. And, obviously, if you find one for around $100, it'll be a better deal than the 5600 XT... but it's circumstantial. We don't look at single listings. We look at the used market (on eBay) as a whole.

I live in Germany. I just got my hands on a 3070 Founders Edition for 400$. New and sealed. I could've gone for a better cooler design, but honestly i really like the FE design and i don't really care about the 2-3% performance loss.I will be undervolting it anyways, so the card will run cool. I think it was a pretty good deal. Im pairing it with a Ryzen 5 7600X. All that in a clean mATX Case. Im really looking forward to it. Great Video also.
@ronaldhunt7617
@ronaldhunt7617 9 ай бұрын
It is a lot more nuanced than the video implies. The first question someone in computer sales always asks is "What do you want to use your computer for?" It doesn't matter how cheap a GPU is if it can not do what you need it to do which defaults to terrible value. A better name for the video would be "Budget cards for gaming that you should or should not buy" If you are just gaming on older games than the ones mentioned would all be great -UNLESS you want to play in 4K, want to not have to buy a new graphics card in the next couple of years, want higher end graphics for atmosphere that have raytracing, frame generation or better upscaling. If you want to create video or use programs like Maya or Blender every card mentioned except the 3090 is a fail. Sure a 4090 is expensive but you can use that card with no issues for I would guess ten years. When you consider value you have to also factor in the life of the product. Spending 200-300 dollars every few years while not having the features you would get on a 7000 series or Nvidia 40 class cards isn't a good value in my opinion. There is an old addage "You get what you pay for" and that applies here as well.

I've always either or given away my "outgrown" video cards. That means I've been able to build "low use case" PCs for my guest bedrooms, home pub, etc. that can game at 1080p without having to buy graphics cards for them. Currently, such machines in my home have either a 980Ti or an RX-580, not too shabby for someone spending a few nights, right. I'd be super tempted to pick up an R9 Fury for $50 just because it's an R9 Fury. I still have one of my R9 290s (gave one away), and in a pinch it can play FF14, which in my house is all it really needs to do.

Great market info across the board. My rig at work has an RX 570 in it so I can spend my lunch playing Diablo 4. I disagree with your take on the RTX 3090, of which I have an EVGA FTW3 model of in the PC I am typing this comment on, though I can see someone who is of lesser resources than I or not willing/able to strip, clean, and re-paste a card being not willing to shell out. I indeed bought my 3090 on eBay, but I paid only $680 and it included an Optimus Absolute FTW3 block installed. There are deals on high end cards if one is patient and not risk averse. I don't think it's wise to steer people away from a card simply because of cost. There are other reasons to get a 3090 and up.

I had a 5700XT for about half a year, and got a second-hand VR Headset shortly after, a Quest 2 I had dreamed about VR for years, and how awesome it would be to just... Completely disconnect from the world, and live by myself in an alternate world, like how you see in anime for example. But unfortunately... Way too many issues with it, the resolution wasn't that good, I could see the pixels on the screen, battery life was horrendous so after like an hour I just played with the Link Cable and that felt uncomfortable as I kept touching it, the games weren't really that great, and the thing most people do, play VR Chat, is not something I'm interested in as even Desktop VR Chat makes me social anxiety horrendous, to the point where I can't even play it. So I ended up trying to sell it online, then I thought to myself, I might as well try to trade it with someone, and asked a few people who had 3070s if they'd be willing to trade. Thankfully someone accepted, they're enjoying VR, and I'm enjoying my ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3070 ^-^

I got the parts to do some basic upgrades (RAM and a 2TB nvme) and I want to do a GPU upgrade by the end of the year but man, making a decision on what to go with has been harder than I expected. A lot of things would be an upgrade over my 1650 Super, but I also would like to have something I don't need to upgrade again for at least 3 to 5 years...and I don't know if an 8GB card will be something that will last me that long or not (I only game at 1080 currently, though I can find a decent 1440p monitor relatively cheap these days, especially if I don't mind going with ebay or FB marketplace...so...)...the 6700 is what I'm leaning towards at the moment, but I was also strongly considering getting into streaming so something with AV1 encoding would be nice at least...but AMD just decided that they aren't going to put out a card with more than 8GB of VRAM in my budget apparently..(I could see myself stretching my budget a bit, but not to $450 for the 7700xt)

@@Bdot888 Yeah, I don't mind buying used, but if I stretch my budget that much, then it needs to be a new card with a warranty. @@Bdot888 I'll have to see what is still available when we get to the holiday sales. I don't have any brand preference. My monitor is 1080p (might consider an upgrade to 1440 at some point, especially since they are getting cheaper) and I would prefer to get more FPS/smooth game play so I'd likely almost never use ray tracing (maybe on low or just specific aspects, never the ultra/max level stuff). So I'm leaning AMD just because NVIDIA will likely cost more (and not just a little in most cases) to get features that just aren't that important to me for now. Would love to see the 6700XT or 6750XT get a little more of a price cut for the holidays. Would make it hard to pass up unless they also drop the price of the 7700XT by like $75-$100 around then too.
