Thanks for listening guys! Mad respect to listening to that you guys, that is no entry-level Dead as they say lol. Their range of music was so broad and it covered almost every Americana genre possible and they really embodied what they felt to be the true meaning of music. The purpose of creating something that expresses the human nature that we cannot express through words alone. They structured there the whole band through that idea and their integrity towards it was like no other. This is why they were a touring band and would play live shows all year because that is where the true magic can occur. The magic that each moment provides and the ability to be open to that moment. This is what drove them to never play the same show twice, they would never have a setlist for the concert-going on stage, that itself would be improvised and catered to the moment. They truly believed music was holy and should be used for transformation. Much love guys!

Jerry Garcia once said, "we're a different kind of band. Most bands have a set list, and stick to it for an entire tour. So basically they play the same songs the same way in the same order night after night. So sometimes, you can just space out and play on automatic pilot. With us, you have to BE THERE, listening to the other guys all the time, because even we have no idea where the music will take us. We never have a set list, never play a song the same way twice, it's like the music plays the band."

I also heard one of you guys say you liked that symbol they use, if they were a business it would be a logo. Well they were a business, big time. On the skulls and roses album, they put on the back "dead head, who are you? where are you? how are you? write us and let us know, and a po box. Their business style is taught as a class at Harvard Business school, as well as other schools across the country. The first pure example of grass roots marketing.

One more little tid bit then I'll shut up. Don't compare the dead to the doors. They once had to have security drag a drunk Jim Morrison off their stage, when he tried to interrupt their show. so there was some bad blood between those 2 bands.

Such a good performance. I was introduced to their music at summer camp of 1985. I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan, but I do love a lot of their songs.

This is really a head first dive into the deeeeeep end of the Grateful Dead pool. I admire your bravery and patience. Many folks are intimidated by long jams and a more free-form, exploratory style, but you stuck with it, kudos. You might want to try US Blues, or Truckin' or Deal, they are more accessible.

This is far from my favorite Dark Star, but to have footage from 1974 of the Dead playing in front of the 30 ft tall Wall of Sound is incredible. Speaking of drugs, one of the Dead's roadies at this show parked in front of the stage stairs and dosed everyone getting on stage with copious LSD.

Thank you! Re drugs, this was an integral part of their founding. Yes, really: look up "The Electric Cool Aid Acid Test." All of this was groundbreaking. As a jam band they were the most accomplished of them all, IMO. Kudos gentlemen.

Thanks for posting this! There's a lot of bravery in tackling a Dark Star for a cold reaction in 2020. I didn't discover the Dead 'til about 6 years after this show; they and Stevie Ray saved me from the 80s...

Welp... Another thing: the Dead might be the most versatile band ever. They played every genre you can imagine, and so very well. When the Dead cover a song, they do it better, period. Please folks, try some more-accessible works by them....for your sake. Their cover of Not Fade Away is legendary. Dylan made an album with them for good reason, the collaborations were magnificent: listen to the CD of "Dylan and the Dead" play "Knockin on Heaven's Door.". That is an easy song to do well, but the Dead behind Dylan were on a whole other level. Have a friend review this medley and report back: "Not fade Away/Goin Down the Road Feelin Bad" from their eponymous album of 1971. Or any other track. Wharf Rat is a jam, and mezmerizing... Thanks.

On this particular show, the stage manager would not let you onstage unless you did a hit of LSD. This was in retaliation to the Cocaine which imperviating the scene. Dark Star, pure improvisation.

Cocaine is an absolutely disgusting drug in all sense of the word, especially when compared to LSD. Acid compared to cocke.is the literal definition of comparing good vs evil.

Traditional grip is better for speed and rebound, but match grip is better for power (though you wouldn't necessarily know that given how much power some tradtional players have). I've never been able to do the traditional grip with my left hand, though I can with the right.

Yo guys, could you react to to The Kid laroi's EP called F*ck Love (Savage) He is 17 years old and alot of people say that he is the most talented artist right now. He is originally from Australia but moved to US. He has a incredible voice and melodies, he's been through alot of stuff for his age. His friend Juice WRLD (really big artist) who died a year ago after a seizure was laroi's mentor and he taught him alot of things. Juice had an amazing carrer for the age of only 21, he has songs with top artists from the industry for example Eminem. But besides that backstory, his EP is pretty short so I think it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to react to it. But as I was saying he is REALLY blowing up right now and also he is a really humble guy. Stay safe guys

Well, I am writing this as we are half way thorough and this is my first time listening to "The Dead" since the '70's.... Even at that time I thought they were just "noodlers" and this has not changed my mind in the least. I liked your analogy to the sound of The Doors... It's just that The Doors where much tighter and much better to listen to. I know this will not go down well with the Dead Heads but C'est La Vie.... Bite me. Sorry, I had to jump to the end of the track, I decided that I had to watch your reaction video for this just to see if I had changed my mind about them at all. You may have guessed that I haven't. PS: Are you sure that that isn't Francis Ford Coppola playing lead guitar..????

I believe this was the night one of the roadies wouldn't let anyone on stage without a huge dose of LSD. Apparently some kind of internecine battle between the cokeheads and those who longed for the old times. So it was a pretty disorganised and poor set they played...
