After 43 years I still remembered this morning vividly. I was eleven years old n was living on pouyatt St Jones town n attending Jones town primary school,,but my brother had just bought his house in Cooreville garden so I had moved from Jones town by then ,but still attending Jones town primary school,so that Monday morning I took a bus from duhaney park it took the boulevard come dung half way tree n after cross road I got off at slipe road n reaching Torrington bridge we as all kids were stopped by the Admiral town police cops we were all barred from going any further. All we could hear was gun shot like crazy coming from love street right by our school. He actually died two minutes from our school n his friends dem. N I knew him personally as a kid. I will never forget this brings back memories to my brain. Rip general one real general never two. A who 😢

I lived through this as a kid growing up. I had to hide under the bed on that unfortunate day just like we do on many many other days. The man den all shoot the ackee dem off the ackee tree. After they took away the bodies them, another kid took me over to the house to see the aftermath. Up to this day I regret that I went there that day & see what I saw. After I leave Jones Town, I went back there only once. Recently, a few ppl told me that Jones Town is completely different now, but I just can't bring myself to go back there. Its a bit like PSTD. They didn't even respect church on Sundays. We are coming from Sunday school & have to be running & hiding like we were the bad ones. This was a daily event. After a while, you got so used to it to the point that if it's not happening on the street that you are on, you just hold your head low & and keep on doing what you are doing if it comes in singles. If its rapid & heavy, then you run because those things can go throug walls 🧱 too. They even told me that No Man's Land is open up & ppl are just walking around like nothing. In my days only if you want to meet your maker you go close to No Man's Land. Not even stray dogs go close to No Man's land to look food. One day, they sh*** a stray dog close to No Man's Land & say the dog was an informer dog from Rema. SMH! Anyway still, Big Up to all di Junglist dem. From Jones Town Primary to Charlie Smith. Even Rema Big Up unnu self tu. Caan gi unnu nu more information dan dat. Mi still affi carefull up tu dis day. Memories of Starkey & him 1 strand a dreadlocks. Big Up BD, Lenky, TW, Hutch, and all a dem tu. Lata!

Starkey used to come in my yard at 23 Blunt St across from All Saint School during the 70's . That time a man named Seedo used to have a little sound system name Touch of class & he used to be in charge of the youth club in the area at that time & nuff top men from jungle came & hang out there.

Do you know how Starkey became a gunman? He was not recruited in any gang or political party but had to run for his life from Greenwich Street and Nelson Street, both him and Daney as they were chased by gunmen from Seaga Band when they were offered guns and refused them. Those who grew up in West Kingston know the story, true or false. They were chased by gunmen, their families had to relocate immediately to Jungle to be safe

I was a young police constable in 1983 when got killed by Mark Jones author of the books Great Jamaican Athletes and Where the ICC has failed'

No, viewer, you got it wrong. General Starkey was killed in June of 1981. The Gleaner carried the story on June 2, 1981 from which I got the picture of Starker in the morgue. You can check the Gleaner archive to confirm the date--1981.
