Emotional Sad Guitar Music by CHALASHVILI MUSIC
Jerry Lee Lewis, (born September 29, 1935, Ferriday, Louisiana, U.S.-died October 28, 2022, DeSoto county, Mississippi), American singer and pianist whose virtuosity, ecstatic performances, and colourful personality made him a legendary rock music pioneer.
Born into poverty, Lewis began playing the piano at age nine at the home of an aunt. His father, a carpenter and bootlegger, saw his passion and talent and mortgaged their house to buy a piano. Lewis emulated the playing styles of a local preacher and black musicians, whom he surreptitiously observed during their appearances at local clubs, and was soon performing at school assemblies, talent shows, and tent revivals, as well as on the radio. He tried to break into the music business in New Orleans and Shreveport, Louisiana (on radio’s Louisiana Hayride), and in Nashville, Tennessee. Drawn by the success of Elvis Presley, he landed at the Sun label in Memphis, Tennessee.
Nicknamed “the Killer,” Lewis established himself as a major rockabilly star on Sun Records with “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and “Breathless,” all Top Ten hits in 1957 and 1958. His rhythmically assured and versatile “pumping” piano style (the left hand maintaining a driving boogie pattern while the right added flashy ornamentation) was influenced by church music and country musicians such as Moon Mullican, who played western swing and honky-tonk. Other early influences included Al Jolson, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, zealous Pentecostal preachers, and African American rhythm-and-blues musicians whom the young Southerner stole away to observe.
In 1958 scandal nearly ended his career. While on tour in England, Lewis was scorned by the press when it was learned that he had married his 13-year-old cousin (the daughter of his bassist). That Lewis’s previous marriage was still valid only made matters worse. Despite the ensuing boycott, Lewis continued recording and performing wherever he could. In 1961 his version of Ray Charles’s “What’d I Say” was a hit. Lewis soon returned to England, this time greeted as a star. Nevertheless, his comeback was complete only in the late 1960s, after he had shifted his musical focus and had a series of hits on the country charts; his success in that genre extended into the early 1980s.
As Lewis entered middle age, his recordings became more sporadic, though he won positive notice later in his life for Last Man Standing (2006), an album of duets with a panoply of rock, blues, and country legends. A similarly conceived record, Mean Old Man, was released in 2010. Rock & Roll Time (2014) also featured a number of notable musicians, though Lewis provided the main vocals.
Lewis had a minor stroke in Memphis on February 28, 2019. He had to cancel several appearances.
Lewis died at his home on October 28, 2022, in Nesbit, Mississippi, at the age of 87. His death was mistakenly reported by TMZ two days before he died, with a representative stating that TMZ had reported "erroneously off of an anonymous tip."
Lewis' funeral was held on November 5, 2022, in his hometown of Ferriday, Louisiana. The service was officiated by his cousin Jimmy Swaggart, and Swaggart's son.
Jerry Lee Lewis grace is located at the Herron family cemetery (also known as Calhoun Cemetery) just outside of Clayton, Louisiana.

Scott, you did an absolutely beautiful job with this and such a wonderful tribute to Jerry Lee Lewis. I feel like some of the greatest entertainers were ones who have dealt with a lot of torment in their lives just like he did. I believe Jerry Lee's music was his outlet. His personal life may have been a mess, but his music was magic. It's legendary and will live on forever. We all have to separate the performer from the person (public life from personal life} and just enjoy the gifts he gave us. Music was his escape, and we are the ones who get to enjoy it. We were blessed because he was born. His music brought a lot of smiles to many faces and will do that for years to come. RIP Jerry Lee. Btw, I love this little cemetery. It's really beautiful to me. This is another thing I love about country folks, they are all so down to earth and seem to stay that way from birth to death. always keeping it real and never forgetting their roots💐

Dear Scott, thank you for this informative and respectful visit to my family cemetery. My grandparents are Stella and Lee Calhoun, who set aside this land for a family cemetery. Stella Herron Calhoun, Minnie Bell Herron Swaggart and Mamie Herron Lewis were all sisters. This is where Jerry Lee requested to be buried...with his family. He even picked out the exact place behind his daddy, Uncle Elmo. Judith, Jerry Lee's wife, is the one who left that Valentine card. :-) Over in the right corner was Frankie Jean Lewis Terrell, Jerry Lee's sister. All the Swaggarts are Jimmy Lee's family. My son, parents, and brother are also buried there. Some of those in the back part are old family friends of my Calhoun grandparents. My son, Ryan, works hard keeping the headstones clean, making sure the graves are neat and with new flowers, and has added lights on the graves and in the trees. It is so beautiful at night. Family is everything. Peace, Sherrie

@@Donthecheese Thank you for your kind words. Jerry Lee wanted his funeral to be in his hometown of Ferriday. AND he wanted to be buried with his family. I was honored to be able to see that all of his wishes were followed. I was so glad to have been with him in his last days....to be able to pray with him and for him. I represented his Herron side of the family. If my Grandmother Stella and my Momma Maudine had still been alive, they would have been there. We lost a great one. I was told that my Grandmother Mamie White (Miller) was the cousin of Jerry Lee's Mother Mamie. I do know that somewhere down the family tree we are related according to my first cousin's genealogy searches. I didn't know my Mother's side of the family because. My mother wasn't in my life growing up. I did have the Pleasure of meeting Jerry briefly in 2919. My father's side of the family was born in the New Orleans, La. all the way back to th mid 1800's. My mother's family came from Mississippi and the ones that are still alive today live in Jackson & Boggo Chitto. My grandmother her birth name was Mamie White & she married into the Miller family. If you have a family tree or know of the name Mamie White please let me know. We are also supposed to be related to the Swaggarts. Thank you. @sherriejacobsmcmahon2515

Thank you Scott for this video. I am sorry to learn about the tragedies in Jerry Lee's life. In the early 1990's he was supposed to be performing in my home town in Finland (in Northern Europe). He never showed up to the stage, apparently he was resting in a local hotel due to not feeling well. In any case I've never seen a band kept waiting for something like 2 hours or more to see if their star should arrive. Tells quite a lot about the patience of us the Finns that we sat down there waiting for the whole time, an ice-hockey arena full of people and the band playing the same few exciting chords, those chords which usually are played right before the performer steps to the stage. 😂 Rest in peace, Jerry Lee Lewis. 🌹

Thank you for honoring Jerry Lee Lewis so very well, as you do with all your videos. Do we know if his cousin ( the one he married) is buried there with the family, or is she still alive and well with us?
