Wow I didn't even know about this, but in NJ I see ALL kinds of bees on a daily basis. Sometimes I have to look them up because I have never seen certain species. I plant sunflowers as well & let the birds eat all of the seeds and take care of my grandmother's garden which is about 50+ years old. We have both a vegetable garden and a great variety of flowers/perrenials/annuals.

Thank you for finding and friending me. I would have never come across your wonderful channel! Does the count have to be on sunflowers? I have a lot of the green/sweat bees visiting my tomato plants now and could easily do 15 minutes with them.

Great Video, this is what causes the so called CCD. I have kept bees for a very long time and my family has been keeping Bees since about the 1840s...Bees are my life so to speak! Chemicals,Poison Pesticides,WEEDKILLERS, and other Poisons. Its a very complicated topic. When things like Varoa take hold please do not blame them! They are a classic sign that some thing is very very wrong with your Bees and your method of keeping them.

Sorry that other post should of been on top of the other one so read the other one first or it wont make sense. On top of the Chemical, poison, and pesticide problem, it is now quite common for Bee Keepers to move their hives hundreds of miles then let the Bees out to early in their new location. Certain species die out when when certain wild plants are wiped out that the bees need,Thistles and Rosebay Willow Herb and Golden Rod for example.

Great! I would like to participate. Do you really think that was the Queen? Do bumble bee queens forage? I only know about the honey bees and the queens have elongated bodies. I didn't think a Queen would ever leave her brooding chamber except to take her first mating flight or to swarm but I've never seen a Queen foraging. That is workers' job.

Yes, bumblebee queens do forage. Bumblebees are very different than honeybees - ALL of the females are fertile, the young females usually tend the small "hive" their first season and become queens in the spring their second year. The queen is slightly larger than the other first year females. Unlike honeybees the "workers" do not tend the queen, she is just another bumblebee in the "hive". Bumblebees do not store honey or pollen because the "hive" scatters in the fall and the bumblebees find a protected location to go dormant in the winter. The hive rarely contains more than a few dozen adult bees.
