I will always support Planetside. So far, in my entire 50 years, it has been the ONLY mmo worth subscribing to. And it is still worth subbing to today, even if they were to not make another change to the game, I would keep subbing. "Payment tendered for services rendered." They keep the servers running, I keep shelling out cash - it's a fair trade IMO. But I know not everyone sees it that way. Everyone has to make their own financial decisions in these tough economic times. The departure of Wrel is not a disincentive to my support. He goes into the pantheon of other PS2 devs that I admire and appreciate, but are no longer on the team. But he (and they) will always be a part of this game, and their legacy lives on. What the team is able to accomplish remains to be seen, but even if it's just grinding out quarterly cosmetics, I'll be there playing and subbing. I've long since hit my saturation point on cosmetics (What really more do you need other than Black/Beetle Camo, a nice set of Doku armor, and an Ambassador helmet?) But I have yet to hit my saturation point on enjoying the game. It's my "home game". The one I always come back to. That's why I'm #SubbedForLife. If Planetside is to evolve, I think it would need to evolve in the current game. I think a "Planetside 3" has been off the table since the death of Planetside: Arena. I still believe in the dev team - they have shown their willingness to make bold moves. The question is: Will they be given the means to do so? I remain dubious about that. DBG/EG7 has unfortunately let the tech that drives PS2 wither on the vine. While they may have launched a Battle Royale revolution in the FPS genre with H1Z1, that barely even touched the potential of what Forgelight can do. PS2 is still far more ambitious than any BR released to date. I would love to see DBG/RPG expand on the true potential of what this tech can do, even if it means a "total conversion" to another genre of game: WW2 or Modern Warfare style game that leverages the large scale battles that PS2 brings to the table. Only then, after the success of such "other games" would there be an opportunity for a true squeal to Planetside 2. And I think that if that were ever possible, it should just be a return to the original name: Planetside.

This is well written and I agree with everything you’ve said, though I’ve unsubbed when I stop playing-but I am beginning to reconsider that attitude. You’ve helped to remind me that this is a service with a finite lifeline, and I don’t want to see this genre disappear. And you (and Cyrious) are right. New content is/ought to be off the table. It’s time to dream of a new Planetside, even if it isn’t by this team. ‘Til this future Planetside touches ground, PS2 should focus on QoL and will have my money.

A UI overhaul would definitely make the world feel more fresh. And since most devs are not artists and vice versa, it gives the art team a chance do all of that while the dev team does a summer cleaning patch. In terms of longevity, honestly i know this might not be everyones cup of tea, but id love to see them branch out with more maps. Let corsairs be used on more than just oshur. Who knows, maybe make a map that is like desolation; an asteroid with rich resources, or something alkng those lines. Maps always enhance longevity of a game, so doing something with map content would help imo.

I am bummed that the alerts didn’t work this week. The construction set is broken. I spent a half hour setting a base up and one colossus destroyed a fully modular module base in a minute or two. I tried to shoot back but the anti tank turret was destroyed before I got two shots off. Very sad experience

@@abotaccount6094 I played constructions for hours and it was very interesting and cool when there were good fights at the bases. That was before they started to nerf it. If you say "lego" you are trying to humiliate other players. Not very smart move.

I just want NSO to get their much needed update. Our weapons are generally not competitive, Dervish isn’t in a good state, Chimera still doesn’t have an ability or access to HESH, Javelin is a joke, etc. etc.

The one thing that brings in people the most, is communication. Even if you don't have anything new, or anything too important, letting people know what's being thought about and that their voice is heard...is very important. 1047 Games is by far the most receptive and most successful Dev team I have talked with in their development of Splitgate. And it was really a small project that took off. But they were all in Discord, all talking to people when they could, keeping ears open and eyes forward. Aware of what the community desired, may not have caved to every suggestion, but definitely made everyone feel a part of the game development. And if anything...that is what almost every dev team is missing. Transparency and open communication. Is there a lot of toxicity that makes it hard to manage? For sure. However transparency is the most valuable gift any dev can give a community as a whole.

I'm two months late but I have a few ideas. In my opinion, DBG should look to a game that's beyond ten years old now, rarely receives content updates, but still holds a massive player count and rakes in cash. TF2. The first thing is something that I think people may not like a whole lot, but I also think it's important; loot crates of some kind that reward cosmetic items. The crates aught to be obtained through gameplay primarily, being awarded like the old implants were, but you can't open them without using a key. A key can either be bought or it might be something that you can get for a perennial sort of directive, like getting 1k kills on a gun you've already auraxiumed, though that might not take long enough. Just something that can be done for a f2p player but will take a lot of time and effort. As for the cosmetics, they can be stuff that's already in the game but add some glowing effects or particles, like the smoke masks and such have. In general just a lot of reskins and effects that will be handed out at random. It might be worth allowing players to trade these things as well, assuming they're cosmetics, but that may be asking too much. Hell, maybe new camos would be a good idea, too, and decals. Just stuff that is shiny and new and potentially very rare. The second thing that I think we should have is some form of PvE content. If we have PvE added to the game that's the penultimate evergreen content to keep people going, because no matter how many players are still around in the game, you're going to get to do something. So long as it scales appropriately to how many people are online, it'll work out. I guess that there are two ways that it could work out, there; either adding a new continent that functions as a new game mode, or adding bots (like in old FPS games were you can bully the computer) that spawn in. In either case I think that the NS faction would fill the role really well, and it doesn't need to be anything special. Just simplistic AI/bots that don't need to do a whole lot. If it were its own game mode, just say they're NS experimental robots that are defective. Make them thin and minimalistic, malfunctioning, make some really wimpy ones that are fodder and run at you, then add in specials that are one of the actual classes. Give players some directives for doing this stuff, as well as missions and maybe new cosmetic "bot-slayer" reskin guns, and I think you'll end up with something that people will be able to keep coming back to. If they were added into the game as-is, they could be NS faction bots that spawn when one faction on a hex is dramatically overpopped. Envision a ghost cap, where one or two players are on late at night and just sitting on an enemy faction point, bored to tears. After about a minute, an equal number of really basic, not-that-good AI spawn out where players would and make their way on a pre-determined path towards the point, taking cover and shooting any time they see anyone. They would be easy enough for new players to manage without a lot of trouble, would give a bit of exp (not counting towards kills, probably), would deactivate (read: die off) when more players of their faction started to arrive so as not to give an advantage to them, and most importantly, they'd give people something to do.

I would like to see a new UI system. I can't speak for the forgelight "tech stack"/engine but it's not usually the biggest thing to implement... Maybe... The game actually has different UI scaling for 1366x768 compared to 1080p, so I guess they could hack in some elements for higher resolutions with the existing scaleform system. But if there are random issues or bugs it's just going to piss off people even more. I'd love to see the random tiny bugs you mentioned fixed. Some annoying ones that aren't tiny I guess are: - Requests to swap seats with yourself - At this location/because it is too close to another deployable annoyances - Ability slot items (e.g. motion spotter) getting stuck and requiring switching classes - Basilisk audio bug (swap seats with your gunner while they're shooting and it gets stuck until you relaunch the game; can be stacked multiple times; I think this became a thing when they reworked basi audio way back) I actually like the new jaeger's fist somewhat but it could be improved. I don't really like side lane meat grinders much though. PS3 could be a thing maybe but I really hope they don't work on forgelight again like they did with PSA. Obviously they can assess the feasibility of all this but a newer engine would surely reduce the potential scuffed feel and at least work on larger core count CPUs better. P.S. you better get used to these because i dont think the subreddit is coming back any time soon. imo they should make it read only at least. i am upset though because i cant use my fav alt app thats lightweight and good on a tablet. if the alt apps have to all become monthly subscription then whatever...

As much as people complained about the old bases, it was those intense, often frustrating fights that most also remember. It was hard, and therefor a challenge, and after all these years that frustrating has faded but not the memories. When they play those bases again, I am sure the complaining will be back in force. As for PS3...man I would love to see it. Take all the lessons learned, Update and craft new models and designs, new maps, new challenges. Actually PROMOTE the game before release for once.

Planetside needs to figure out what it is. Is this a arcade shooter that needs more fun or is this a serous shooter? I personally would love to see tank armor get a update with each side having actual armor to be punctured by AP or destroyed by explosives before harming the tank. The sides being 75% and back being 35%. Second update would be to the rounds to add specific purpose rather than being so rounded to multiple uses. Just a idea

A drastic redesign of the game would be required. Ps1 is an arcade shooter Ps2 is a tactical shooter "Tactical" and "mmo" just doesn't mesh. The vehicles play like an arcade game, but the infantry experience is disjointed from it. Their solution thus far has been to put up walls and try to segregate ps2 into 2 games. (I was gonna try to say 2 planets or 2 sides but i couldn't find a way to make it flow so that got 86d) This leads to problems whenever vehicles do in fact find a way to interact with the infantry, as the the needed to mount a counter attack against an arcade element isn't available when you're also surrounded by dozens of enemy infantry that will take you out in tactical levels of time. There's a ton of other areas they could work on, but those would ask just be done in an effort to solving this one major issue.

I like your suggestions. Polishing the game is the right direction imo. On top of bugfixes, “de-busy-ing” the UI would be grand (really dates the game), maybe adding in-game information/personalization similar to Recursion would really helpful for accessibility.

Old holding out beta tester two cents: I'm on the edge about Planetside3 personally, I get that it would be a fresh start with a blank canvas made of newer engine code & assets. A trilogy title would probably be the best reward for the hardcore fan community of this game, what's brought me personally back again & again though is the commitment of investment to Planetside2 & I'm not expecting they would port that investment over to Planetside3 at all. Too many players with too many personal data assets from names, kit, unlocks, titles, ranks, just the sheer volume of personal assets for every player will probably mean when Planetside2 goes down so will my investment into it & all the memories attached to that investment. I'm also concerned if they try to pump a Planetside3 out too fast, it doesn't feel like they been taking their time crafting something polished behind closed doors & the last thing any of us want is the "Todd Howard special" with the newest flagship in the Planetside Legacy.

I just came across Planetside 2 because my Battlefield 4 server is dying right now. What I would love is to see is to give the maps a bit more polish. They look a bit unnatural at some points, and the floor is very empty. Also the UI is a bit complicated. And most painpoint for me: It is so hard for me to play together with my brother in one squad. To this point I could not figure out how to get in a squad with him so I can see him easily on the map. Make it more accessible for small groups of players.

TLDR: AMAZING things can be done with Planetside, the problem is whether or not the devs can be spared and/or hired to support new features (whether that be server maintenance to accommodate new things or simply developing the new thing (big or small).) SORRY IN ADVANCE: I had too much caffeine and this is just the stuff that popped outa my head so take it with a grain of salt. Plan (A) Keeping Planetside 2, Planetside 2 #1 Keep rolling out Bug fixes #2 Add randomized versions of the event campaigns with sprinkles of in-game realism and aspects that would require/encourage full-faction commitments. (Basically more in-depth daily missions but with a purpose. Something that could hold or FORCE attention. (Ex: (TR: Find and destroy dangerous Vanu artifacts.)(NC: Steal Vanu artifacts and escort them back to the warpgate, CTF with vehicles.)(VS: Recover Our Artifacts and bring them to X facility and protect them as they research, CTF with vehicles.) #3 Add events/alerts that alter game rules while active: EX1: Explosive weapon shortage, resupplying explosives outside of the warpgate now costs nanites. Forces conservation of spam rockets, and significant changes to strategies, ie: more gunplay. EX2: AI Revolution, ALL NSO regardless of allegiance/partnership become their own 4th faction hostile to the other three. They also get a new chat channel next to the outfit tab called HIVEMIND that all NSO share. The "middle" base in the continent turns grey and becomes their "warpgate" except it can be captured. NSO may then cap territories. The event ends with either the NSO losing all territories or the continent alert ends.)(NSO can win.) NOTE: Those were more just examples of what I meant by rule changes and how things could be applied either as simple events to the larger inter-faction co-op. END PLAN (A): to keep players and keep the ps2 feels it's got to be a constant stream of new events, with newer or more unique changes, a bad event? No one liked it? Cool it rotates out after a couple weeks and something else comes in. Bad ones just don't come back. Constantly rotating and providing new experiences, long enough to enjoy but not enough to get learned or boring. Plan (B) Making Planetside 2 -> Planetside 3 (ie: make everything bigger) #1 Keep rolling out bug fixes, this will take SIGNIFICANT upgrades to the current servers. #2 Make continents allow 25% more total players and 30% larger L/W/H maps. on a 7k x 7k map that's almost an extra 4.5 square kilometers of battlefield. #2a. Add more buildings to large facilities (almost like small cities (more engaging urban environments) These could also sport new or more objectives like redundant shield gens or destructible/repairable capture points). #2b. Increase bullet velocities and some vehicle speeds. Increases the importance of logistics. #2c. C is for construction that's good enough for me... *ahem* sorry... Allow construction of Lattice blockers, buildings that are similar in size to the current orbital strike buildings that glow on the map, and HALT any contesting of points in that region until destroyed. Lattice blockers are required to first be made in the outfit armory and require a BR50 at least to deploy it. #3 ALL BASES CAN BE CAPPED AT ANY TIME: those not connected to lattice lines or on interrupted lines will take 4x as long to capture. Reconnecting lines will keep the %values of progress. (makes back capping not op but more usable as a delaying tactic as they can be done mid-cap) #4 Remove all greyed-out off-limits areas on map borders, you'll see why on #6. #5 Bastion carriers are larger, have the same health and hardpoints (but may be repaired by an outfit resource costing combined arms CFT feature from tech plants), and have full interior designs, they also have a main generator room that may be overloaded and after a timer many alarms, it will one shot the carrier regardless of health remaining. Downward-facing guns have ammo counts and must be resupplied via an outfit resource costing combined arms CTF feature from amp stations. #5a Bastions may now start caps on any disconnected territory with only 2x cap timers instead of 4x (see #3). #6 One continent will always be active... But for more than one continent to be active outfits may choose to assault a new continent. when pulling a bastion carrier the initiating player may choose to pull it for this continent or to assault. If choosing to assault a new continent the player will be hit with 4 confirmation popups to ensure they know what they are doing. #6a While attacking the first territory a new continent using the bastion's new ability (See #5a) the bastion is a spawn for all faction members. Bastion will also temporarily (until cont. is forced open) have access to an aircraft terminal for non-outfit members to pull any kind of aircraft (using their nanites). At this time the defending faction may now spawn on that continent. #6b For continents under assault, warpgates no longer have a pain field. (visible shield functions like a permanent citadel shield.) #6c Continents under assault will also have no, no-deploy zones (for sundies and galaxies). #6d If the attacker conquers more than 30% of the map or a warpgate it will force open the continent. Giving the 3rd faction (not defender, not the one that forced unlock) a warpgate and only its immediate surrounding territory. The former owner retains all other territories. #6e The outfit that conquers the warpgate (or the most territory) will gain possession of the faction warpgate and will receive 50% off all nanite costs in that region as well as a stream of all outfit resources. #6f MOMENTUM: for the first hour after a continent was forced open the initiating FACTION receives bonus nanites per minute. #7 Warpgate outfit control persists through the continent lock (resources received at a reduced rate) if there is a single outfit member still on and the continent is captured by that outfit's faction. #8 Open continents may be traveled between via aircraft or boats #? ENDGAME: allow similar events at first but make them player-initiated later as space travel to desolation or other planets. Thus will begin: The True: PLANETSIDE... Obviously, many of these ideas are high-in-the-sky ideas both economically and technologically. But, honestly, it was just fun to write stuff... LOL

As someone that has tried to get dozens of People into the Game, i heard the same thing from every single one. "The guy is invisible and just kills me with no chance to react. The Guy just wont die why does it take half a magazine to even scratch his health? The Problem has ALWAYS been either Infiltrators or Heavys for them. Not the Vehicles, not the chaos, not the Map, not the progession, not the bases. It's fine for a while when they stay with me in Vehicles but as soon as they want to try Infantry it just goes to crap nearly instantly. When i tell them to pick Heavy or Infil themselves and stay with me, they tell me they want to play another class and not be forced into certain ones to be able to compete or have fun. The only Infantry v Infantry that somewhat worked for them was the Underwater fights on Oshur, because of Heavies not able to shield and Infiltrators not able to cloak, but these dont happen all the time. Few of my Friends told me they would play with me again once Heavies and Infiltrators are either gone or changed. Ive asked for the exact thing for years now, Heavies and Infiltrators are the main problem why people dont stay. But Every year we get another tribute Heavy/Infil armor, another tribute Heavy/Infil weapon. Another implant or tool that takes the job of a Support Class, Another way of increasing KPM. This had led me to realise that the Developers are too scared to go against the KPM stat chasers and make the game more playable for new and casual players. All it needs is to adress this issue, make the game more Playable for people not looking to compare stats or Dsizes. Making it more Playable would increase the Playercount, wich in turn would increase revenue for the Game and give the incentive in the best case for a Third title or at worst to overhaul PS2 existing Engine and bring it closer to next Gen or atleast current Gen expectations. Loosing a bunch of usualy grumpy as hell stat zombie Veterans is just a bonus. Most of us got into the game when it first came out, where classes had been played pretty evenly and alot of the 1 man army tools and gimmicks didnt exist yet for the most part. Thats when we fell in love with the Game, why not return to it? Rework Heavies to be the main Anti-Vehicle Class and split Infiltrators into two "new" Classes. The Spy who can go invisible but never use any weapons, just hack base turrets and unmanned vehicles that arent deployed, hack base gates and shields, mines and Mark high-value targets for his empire to see one at a time, if a marked targets dies, the killer and the spy get both awarded with the kill, Heatvision or infrared vision can always see cloaked spies. And a dedicated Sniper class that cant go Invisible atall and can only use Snipers that cannot go below 6x magnification. Flash Cloaks are no more. The Heavies overshield doesnt work against Infantry weapons atall and only protects him against Vehicle weaponry, Launchers lock on instantly to both Vehicles and Max units but cannot be dumbfired, they can only be avoided through terrain or anti-lockon systems like flares that work on any rocket currently in-flight but do not block locking on again. Grenade launchers only deal splash damage and never direct damage and have their firerate lowered, Explosive spam is crazy enough already. Carapace needs to go, Medkits need to go. Heavies get the Engineers AV Turret, AV turrets gets a secondary fire mode that fires Flak rounds similar to the ranger. The Engineer loses that specific Turret, but can boost its firerate and velocity that does not stack, with his repair tool. If the Turret kills something, both get awarded the kill. Wanting to be Unique is fine, but it clearly isnt working. Battlefield, Hell let lose, Call of Duty all do it similar, not because they are lazy but because it works. Planetside should accept that fact and drop some of the ailments it has and sacrifice its wish for being unique and exchange it for stability. This may be the only way to make sure Planetside regains some of its exposure and give it the chance to be something to keep in mind for the future. Be it a Third installment or atleast the resources to keep it as a immortal Game that we all still love to jump into even in another 10 years. Perhabs one day a large company takes the chance and buys the IP, aslong as it isnt ubisoft or EA. Just look what EA did to Westwood's Command and Conquer, a goddamn Mobile game abomination. Planetside doesnt deserve that cruel fate.

If you cant spot an infil play on low graphics you can see their cloak better unlike higher settings. Heavies are the frontline infantry though removing their shield working against infantry will just further remove incentives to push into heavily defended areas which new and low skill players are already really adverse to doing.

@@Dawndreams174 If a single Class makes you change your graphics and Game setting to something you dont want to play on, there is something inherently wrong with that Class. Maxes were the frontline infantry. Breaking stalemates is their job. They were nerfed to oblivion already, mostly because of the Heavy mains complaining that they cant just mow them down like every other class. Heavies nowadays are too concerned with their KDR to push into heavily defended areas WITH a shield already. Breaking up a fortified position doesnt need a heavy. Ive done it plenty of times as a Grenade bandolier Engy. I know its difficult to let things go that are easy and convenient. I myself was a Heavy/Infiltrator Main for the first few years until i weaned off those two classes and moved to medic and from there to Engineer. Those changes would rearrange the role of Classes, wich may be inconvenient and bad for some. But im sure it would be better for most and the Game as a whole in the longrun. This is about preparing for the Future and not to uphold the Status Quo.

Secondly no maxes are not frontline infantry theyre specifically balanced as breakthrough units and cost nanites due to such, most of the nerf max crowd are the same noobs you wanna nerf heavies for ironically cause any high kd heavy youre angry about just hits them with 2 deci shots. Lol as a heavy main no one who actually is high ivi cares about kdr with low kpm your statement is laughable when were out here getting bored fighting outnumbered 2:1 and winning. In the end im glad you arent a game designer because nerfing two classes you cant handle for the future of the game is a hilarious take. Also its nice you can be the enlightened engi medic but i main heavy cause thats what my outfit needs on the field to win.

It is a take that sits very bitter in the throats of us who has played this game for so long and gotten used to and attached to those Classes. Truth is, those two classes make it alot easier, and that is something alot of us don't want to give away. Perhabs play a few weeks as Engineer yourself, maybe you come to realise that KPM does not equal credibility nor outweigh another Persons suggestion.

More substantial vehicle objectives, a reason to hold vehicle players' attention more than anti infantry at bases. I think guarding an ant to build an attacking seige base is good but situational. Pulling a vehicle to strip a base's infantry defense sounds cool. but I can only imagine it being just more spamming from vehicles and there is a big variation on how much pop visits the bases. Maybe something like an big automated spartan lazer that can be seen and dodged. More deployables that change the battlefield seems interesting. The playerbases have one flaw that makes them hard for me to want to fight in them. All the open angles to be shot from anything and they are a Hotspot for camping infiltrators I'm not sticking around unless I'm invested in the fight.

Planetside does feel like its approaching that last 2yr stage of PS1 where they just had seasonal changes dunno why. 3 things i always wanted... 1) A LA squad tool/utility.. a way to be useful to a squad other than beacon placing. 2) all unlocked weapon types to be includee in the weapon directive categories....alot of weapons in to specialist categories instead of smg/lmg etc so having a bigger variety to Auraxim to get your directive weapons. 3) Purchasable Heroic boosts...i used buy them a lot ever year but now i spend less money on boost as im more frequently taking breaks

I don't think it's in their power to make part 3 of this game right now. But what they can definitely do is rebalance ALL weapons. Now every faction with weapons is like this - in each type of weapon there is a standard - this is the default weapon that we have from the very beginning. It is average in everything. And we have several (sometimes just a couple) variations of this weapon (most often even weapon models do not differ / minimal differences) - in which the proportions of damage / recoil / rate of fire / bullet speed / magazine size change. Vanu stands apart, in each type of weapon there is a variant with a heating mechanic. (which logically is nonsense - plasma technologies = plasma needs a working fluid = still needs ammunition) As a result, it turns out that for everyone else there is nothing more unique - all weapons do NOT differ from each other so much that it somehow SIGNIFICANTLY changes the gameplay. Subjectively, for me, when I take different, for example, machine guns - for me the recoil pattern only slightly changes - the damage is almost the same for all samples. Within the working distance, the rest does not really matter at all. The same magazine size - if you are in position, then you still have time to reload, and if you got into a situation where you did not have enough ammo in the magazine for a group of opponents, then you probably did something very wrong, since you're trying to play rambo 1 against 10-20. And we also have weapons that are inexplicably better/worse than others. Take, for example, the recently released high-caliber faction rifles - NC received huge damage and the ability to one-shot to the head, NSO received a max repair block and also one-shot to the head at a decent distance. At the same time, VS and TR got - the inability to kill with a one-shot to the head at an adequate distance and a shot delay with a SLIGHTLY higher rate of fire (and the lowest damage), respectively. At the same time, they did not even get sights so that they would be comfortable to use at close range, so that at least they could shoot at heads. As a result, only NC and NSO run with faction rifles - VS and TR both ran with archers and continue to run with them. Same situation with heavy weapons - VS has lashers that I see all the time. And when 3, or even 2 players with lashers shoot into the gap - NOBODY can break through it, not even MAX. At the same time, NC simply has a more powerful shotgun, which is useless except at close range, and TR has a minigun, with which a player is killed from almost any other weapon, stupidly due to accuracy. As a result, both jackhammers and miniguns - I practically don’t meet them, unlike lashers, which are used in EVERY relatively large fight. The same with fractional vehicles - yes, tanks differ in characteristics. But - where the NC, TR and NSO will be locked in a bottleneck, the VS tanks will simply go around and surround the opponents. That is, the tactical use of the landscape flies straight into the trash. And there are many more such moments. But the developers, apparently, have more important things to do to finally put the weapons in the game in order. And I'm not talking about the fact that the characteristics of weapons make me cringe every time I pay attention to them. A sniper rifle from the distant future, the era of space flight - with a bullet speed of 650 meters per second? Now the usual ASSAULT RIFLE has a bullet speed of 800-1000 meters per second!

When I was still in a certain vanu outfit we all tried to talk to dbg_Drew out of arena and told him we need badly planetside 3 or at least 2.5. The game above all else is stuck with technical debt which weighs the experience down and betrays its age. Dx11 was much needed but performance can still be annoying in big fights. Older games are also in general more of a pain to get into for new players. Without a doubt all the experienced vets make the games onboarding process for new players hellish. Nothing can really be done about this you only gain game sense through playtime. In my time in newbie nc outfits before joining vanu I was stuck just dying all the time to things I couldn't really get. Without a new offering trying to keep a decade old games life support going isnt viable.

I think they need another Higby/Wrel, an insider with a vision for the game's future. The main way to kill the game is for a non-player to make completely brain-dead changes to the game. At least Wrel played the game and had some idea of how things worked. Even if you disagreed with the direction he was taking the game, having a direction is important. It attracts some people and discourages others, but it moves forwards. That's a better alternative than stagnation where the entire playerbase just slowly drifts away ala the Everquest1 Mac server. Presuming that they won't find someone to be the next Wrel/Higby (which I think is a safe guess), then I think the game has an expiration date, but they can at least do things to make the game better: A) Sunset the PS4 version already. Its long overdue. Make the game PC-only, stop having to calculate the effort needed to bring a feature to PS4 when deciding on features. This will make development easier and the PC features better. B) Fix all the numerous bugs in the game. There's the bugs that have been in the game for years, like the sounds slowly going away the longer you play until you have to restart the game just to hear game sounds. And the newly introduced bugs, like the viable spawn list not updating like it should until you switch tabs away and back to the map tab. Fix all these bugs already, Squash them and don't let them come back. C) Do all the things where I posted on reddit or Twitter "Clearly Daybreak/RPG hates money" over the years. Like the membership-exclusive store page which hasn't been updated in nine years, or the times when patches are delayed and as a result there's no daily 50% sale, or making an "Auraxium Auraxium" weapon... a weapon you can only get by "Auraxiuming" 5 or 6 Directive Reward weapons, which if implemented will result in a decent amount of the playerbase buying a bunch more weapons to use for 1160 kills and then putting it aside to buy the next one. All these are low hanging fruit that Daybreak/RPG can use to make more money that don't threaten game balance nor are controversial or change any playstyles, yet they've inexplicably avoided them. Just search my post history on reddit/Twitter for "hates money" and you'll find a bunch of examples of things for RPG/Daybreak to do or avoid doing. I literally say that phrase about no other company.

Especially this past year with no update hitting PS4 planetside, what features could you even be mentioning? Funny how PC players think PS4 version takes up development time despite getting no updates. What if I told you, the developers are just slow and incompetent. Getting rid of the PS4 version doesn't improve the PC version, it just gets rid of another revenue source.

Should definitely do some for smaller bases getting too crowded. Some fights have so much players relative to the playable space that its feels so exhausting trying to fight your way through a tiny tiny bases literally filled to the brim with players that the entire minimap is filled with dots. And at the same time try and encourage fights on more hexes at a given time. Currently, during peak hours. There are around 1-3, absolute huge fights while the rest of the zones are ghost towns. We all know those balanced fights where you feel like you actually make a difference with actions you perform. suddenly that revive grenade turns the fight around instead of instantly getting farmed as soon as they accept the revive. Those two clutch kills you got? that let you push up that capture zone and secure the room. flanks become possible attack routes, because usually the fights become so crowded that all angles are held and defended.

Continent specific vehicles and more solo player focused content. 1: It may seem like a waste of effort to lock new content to a single continent, but they’d be easier to balance against the existing roster of vehicles, allowing the devs to be more adventurous with what they create, adding variety to fights. 2: Strict solo players make up a large part of the player base and will continue to remain solo for reasons incomprehensible to the rest of the population, regardless of incentive to do othetwise. We like a challenge, but we don’t like being effectively walled from content. Having driver controlled turrets, even if weaker than their gunner controlled counterpart, would lower the barrier for entry for new solo players while giving old solo players something new to do.

This is definitely pie-in-the-sky but I'd love to see the new team squash all the bugs, fix the UI, and then try to do something with performance if they cant fix it at all, PlanetSide 2 is a live service game and just like Dayz did they could update the engine without killing the game. Not pie in the sky idea would be squash the bugs, update the UI, and then figure out some way to tell new players hey there's a lot of players on the map this is a laggy game.

I dunno Cyrious. I think you laid out some good suggestions. I think the RPG team could learn to copy how Facepunch operates and do some small developer blurbs about things they are working on or experimenting with to generate small amounts of hype or just invite the creative input of others. Imo I disagree that planetside 2 has done everything. I feel like there's plenty more it can still do. But it needs those bug fixes first and it needs to revisit the idea of expanding the fundamental tech stack upholding the game. Being able to walk on a moving Bastion or just having any sort of mobile platforms that aren't vehicles and don't kill you, for example. That opens up the avenue to new base designs with actual moving elevators. Anyway, this one needs some thinking...

There are so many projects that are left unfinished, NSO’s alone for starters with 1/3 the weapons and alot of gaps. At this point it’s a 10 year old game. I think it has reached it’s pinnacle. EG7 needs to start thinking about investing in making a Planetside 3 with a Unreal engine. Games like Dune: The Awakenings and Starship Troopers are already starting to push into newer horizons. With many tech companies laying off top talent. Maybe hungry programmers will put out video games we haven’t seen in a decade, Planetside 2 lasted, because there wasn’t anything else like it, but that is changing. Perhaps Wrel leaving wasn’t a bad thing, because maybe they can get a lead designer that knows code and can surprise us all, instead of a youtube star.

i tend to lean towards core engine upgrades, updates. sliding all content on the top of a more capable version of the engine. and start from there. evolve it into planetside 3 . Much like that 'path of exile' game just updates to its own sequel over time while retaining all the work done in years past. and that game is just chugging along for years and years. there are a few others, warframe.. etc. planetside arena looked nice to me visually, but lets think beyond that. with an engine that now allows you to really create some interesting things and do more underworld cave system type expansion or even high orbit sky bases.. remember planetside 1..the underground stuff.. and mechs but i dont feel we need mechs but perhaps ps3 would need something like that. it needs to be worth price of admission . people might not like this but since it would be built with all the ps2 content slid on top of it, that means that you could just say.. well, give us 20 bucks, unlock the ps3 as a dlc.. the game is going to be a round for a long time.. and you can still be playing alongside all the ps2 players that havent upgraded yet.. but when they see the engine be updated, and other players playing with all the new toys and things, surely they will drop 20 -30 bucks. im just saying, money is the objective . without it you are spinning your tires. so we as the customer and support base for the game really need to come through on that when they need us to. after all this game has given us all so many years of great gaming and battles and it needs to exist for all time. it just needs to keep growing where its allowed to. for me , i need to know where this companies outlook is with planetside 2. ultimately thats the last call.. it's up to corporate decisions.. we can always influence that with money....really would like wrel back for that but that guy needs a vacation

An "O:MFG" but for fixing bugs (new and old ones) would be great. The game has plenty of content, but much of it is in need of polish or iteration. From major bugs like the "UBGL no damage" bug to minor ones like weird hand placement on weapons, they all need to be squished. I get that bug fixes can't really be monetized, but also they can't just be left to pile up so high that even casual players are noticing them. The other thing is balance. VS and NSO arsenals are in need of some balance passes. NSO is still unfinished, lacking notably an ability for their MBT, among other things.

I love the idea to recycle old content that have already been done before. It is (theoretically, I remember Wrel talking about how much work it was to bring Escalation back) low effort, bigger content that would add a lot that the community could pick through. I still believe in rotating content, rotate older continents design as the cmdr brought up, and find ways to integrate abandoned, seasonal content into the monthly options. I know maximum pressure and aerial anomalies and similar events have generally not been received well when they have been implemented, but in my mind these events give the impression of a game that is not in maintenance mode, especially if they are done in moderation to break up the regular grind.

I think it's time to start working on PS3 on a new engine to really save the franchise. I still hop on PS2 at least an hour almost every day, but the fire is going out. It feels super repetitive the past year or so. Like Cyrious said in the beginning, "it is starting to feel more arcade-ish instead of logistics driven". Every battle feels the same to me now, it used to have a different flow that kept things interesting. I'm all for a cert farm, but these battles get stale quickly. Just my opinion. Getting rid of warp gates is something I would like to see, I also get sick of the same lattice lines over and over and over.

I'd keep playing and supporting the game when I can even if they didn't change a thing. I know that's not everyone's opinion but I honestly just don't have any gripes. PS2 is the one game I log into that I always have fun and it always delivers. Probably a boring opinion but that's how I feel about it.

A ton of fine tuning the current gameplay loop. Construction and Oshur in general are half baked in general. Boats and underwater combat aren’t where the devs would want it to be, construction just got another patch but it’s not where the devs want it to be. There is too much important half baked content and issues that take too long to get touched up. Esamir needs to get fixed from the overhaul, the Max balance change took too long happen. Basically change the focus from developing half baked ideas to instead creating a more balanced gameplay loop, and fine tuning performance will ease a lot of what we take issue with.

Would like to get real new content, typically that comes in the form of new gun gameplay, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but new continents to explore are always fun and bring people back. Introducing new vehicles might be interesting, obviously they released the Dervish and Chimera recently. I’d really love to see OutfitWars running more than a season a year, or perhaps if you do want to do a season a year, have the seasons last longer (maybe a few months), though obviously with that you do risk player burnout during the off-season.

All vehicles should be faction specific. No more generic vehicles that everyone has a carbon copy of. Vanu gets hover sunderer with only energy weapon mounts, Terran gets a big ol military industrial looking hog with with only your choice of chainguns, etc. It feels almost entirely cosmetic as to what faction I play when it comes to vehicles and always has. I swear I remember PS1 had the vehicle rosters be entirely unique. Speaking of PS1, bring back the mechs! Dump the max suits if you have to, power armor is cool and all but a big stompy robot that lets you literally squish the enemy is better and cooler. Total map overhauls that actually take player constructions into account. That's about all I can think of.

And yes there are heaps of bugs that haven't been fixed for years. Also getting back the old continents before they were messed up would be great.

Ontinents are fine but this entire time ive expected more from a new map. Oshur i felt was good yet underwhelming idea..or execution. Do you remember all the underground action in the ps1 expansion..that could be done o. A ..say moon continent..what kind of moon would auraxis even have? Would it be redish? i think we should appreciate more this small invisible fixes to the game i have for a since months, like all few Hours a G12 Error where the game client crashes... how great would it be when that would be gone.. to the game over all i think its totaly infantry focused tanks are mostly just trash its all nerfed... if you hit an heavy with the shild up with an AP direcly they don't die ... i know it is unfair but common it is a tank it should be strong.. and also lightnings are as almost that strong like a main battle tank... but on the other hand C4 should do much more damage to tanks like one C4 for a lightning and 2 for a maintank and there are also the sundys that you can't destroy specialy in smaller fights.. i mean i tryd it several times and i failed (ok im not the best player out there..) but i think that should be easyer. main tanks could cost also 550 or even 700 nanites.. i mean a bastion is also unfair but you can't spawn it all 2 min.. and than there are airplains i mean for what do we play them it is for farming or to fight farming they have no usage.. i just had an idea how to solve that, we could make floating bases like a bastion that can be conquered only be airplains that are in the latus system but are conecting not directly with the closest point instad one behind that. it would give a new dynamic to the flow.. i think one of the main problems are still double teaming.. i think it could be solved by nanites cost for example the nanites cost for a sundy is higher for that faction that is heavely unballanced on one side, and if possible only there where the fight happend.. so the players will focus on the other faction.. but i think big teams will hate that.. and i think the server should open up later a continent because sometimes after an alerd later in the evening the open an continent and than you have 2 continents that are emty... maybe even have more player per continent i never had any lag because of that.

I know I am probably the only one who cares, but I would love to see TAA fixed. The aliasing in this game drives me crazy even at 1440p. It's an option in the settings and it doesn't do anything. Like you mentioned it would be nice if they could add UI scaling. I play at 1440p so the UI is a bit small. Can't imagine what 4k is like.

Legacy builds are cool. Historic reenactments lol This will get them sued faster than you can say "Planetside 3", but release all the tools and open the floodgates to fan content - not just cosmetics but weapons, vehicles, maps, classes, UI. Ok ok curate if you must, but Mr. RPG, tear down this wall!

make new guns not just one per faction, do something with the useless areas on esamir map edges, do something with the bio labs on esamir make under bases or something, bring bridge back indar, do something about connery pop or merge it to emerald, oshur needs more access for the islands, lean off of bundels it makes new player think p2w, graphics overhaul, some new vehicles would be nice, give better rewards for directives or harder ones I get so many useless ones unless it on a holaday personally more tree bases on hossin would be cool, rework of factions TR rpms on guns are still affected by Frame rate and suffer when in big fights lean more away of gun go burrr and lean more towards functionality. Bring back events. an under ground like continents would be cool or battles on asteroids like some polis masa on battlefront II that or more caves systems. It's weird planeside receives so little upgrades being an online multiplayer compared to other games. so much minimal work it's like only one person is working on this. love it tho

The problem with planetside 3 is what would actually be different? Ok Better graphics which could mean more lag as not everyone will be forking out for a top PC + monitor. One thing i always found strange from PS1 to PS2 is why there are less vehicle options in PS2................just lazy devs. There should have been more. Also.................planetside 1 & 2 are unique and some people just like the FPS lobby games as they have a short attention span.

EG7 has ready shown they don’t care about growing the game only keeping as minimally viable as long as possible for profit. Answer is simple. Make planetside 3 in unreal 5 with cloud mega servers. The return would be incredible yet they won’t do it because dipping below 100% bonus checks is unacceptable. I’ve commented something incredibly similar before but I’ve had this train of thought for a long time now and nothing is going to change my mind. I’d love for them to do something to bring me back but until then, no soup for you EG7.

I think PS3 is honestly the answer. I love PS2, but it's tired and slow and full of bugs that have been around for ages. As much as I hate to say it, maintenance mode should be PS2's future with a big shift focusing on PS3 using a modern engine that can run, scale, and update better.

We're not going to see a Planetside 3 on any timescale worth talking about. Maybe 10-15 years from now when PS2 is dead and... whatever company... that holds the rights to Planetside might start thinking about it, but... It's going to be so far off in the future that you might as well just consider Planetside 2 the end.

Do you even remember how much more vibrant and immersive game was in age of PhysX? It was so far ahead of it's time, only now we would've been able to play it without pain. But then again people playing potato mod on "X-BOX 360" purely for competitive play style to have this extra 3% DPS jez. This absurd was NEVER a core of this game to begin with. I am still not sure if removing PhysX was a good idea. You could've always turned it off. WHY they removed it? Balancing it for certain parts is one thing, but complete removal was a mistake. Planetside is a very immersive combat experience, it was never about K/D, but about never ending conflict with huge battles. PhysX really elevated core of a game to such a degree, it almost felt like a movie at times. Now it's just very generic and outdated. I miss PhysX age so much.

Gonna stop you there on the nostalgia, it's like the first bite the first smoke the first drug. You will never get that feeling again EVER don't encourage something as bad as retro crap those people I consider equal to those that buy FIFA and skyrim 9th edition. They're the reason why we continue to have bad habits and bad games.
