Well said. While knowledge builds over time in one sense, I think this is partially an illusion because wrong thinking convincingly portrayed all too often is perpetuated as truth over time. To borrow a metaphor, the weeds grow up with the tares. As a Christian I see much of Lucretius' On the Nature of Things this way.
