I remember playing a game similar to this back around 2000ish, 8 player ffa clan game. Normally I'm a late game boomer and suck vs a rush, this game I got left alone long enough to boom. Started out surrounding my base with byzantine castles and massed heavy cataphracts. I cleared half of the map and put a line of castles right through the center with scout towers to maintain sight of my territory. They wound up allying to try and beat me but by that time I had to much going for me.

Feels like you don't give yourself enough credit for carrying the early game. You were keeping both opponents thinking defensive, bottled in their base so MBL had time to boom. Seems fair that you sacrificed your eco to hold them back early and MBL depended on you so they could hit hard late. A great game and good teamwork.

I think this could be a good strat. In some of my games, both with classmates and with AI, I went tower defense and built Castle in group of 4 in square formation, with 80 Cav Archer or Hand Cannoner in them. Depends on the civ I put some Bombard cannon towers or Bombard cannon (unit) to counter treb and other units. I also kept 20 - 30 Cavaliers just to rush treb (because other units never stand a chance against the gatling arrow. The rest of population went to eco. How did I push? It's simple, I built another set of castles, and move all the accompanied units to the new castle group. I did lose a few games, some because the enemy flanked my front line and destroyed the back castles so I couldn't fall back to, some because I couldn't push past a point and resource eventually ran out.

This is the wrong use of castle wall, if you build it from your base to your ennemi base you can instant teleport your unit ^^

I understand that may be a joke but I could see this being real so I gotta ask if thats possible. Because I know you can set a castles end point to another castle and chain this along multiple buildings, so is it possible to very rapidly move a group of soldiers along a connected castle wall like this? i guess youd have to manually kick them out of each castle....? I dont actually play the game lol

​@@luminousdragonit is indeed possible but it isn't automatic. basically you can teleport a screen distance fairly easy by sending units in the first one and double-clicking your building, then spammin the eject button or hotkey until the units are through. if you've got the time to micro with shift-clicks you can go unlimited distance. it is limited to the amount of slots in the building however (unless you trickle units with the correct timing) because units just stop when they encounter a full building and never retry. i can see it as a legit strategy in a co-op or multiplayer format where a player is streaming units into the wall and another one moves them. imagine portuguese with 7 or 8 feitorias only slinging and building the teleportation line for the team. those can focus entirely on micro and set all gather points from their base into the teleportation line....

is it really best to delete the walls behind your base? I get that its faster to relocate the vills to wood and it gives you more space for buildings but poor 900 elo me got castle dropped and during a mangonel battle, I was able to relocate threatened limberjacks and farmers to safety behind the walls which allowed me to boom whilst under the pressure and eventually come back and win the game. this would not have been possible had i deleted the walls and i likely would have lost.

if the saracen player has tons of gold and 70s of imp before any stone is bought it'll work nicely, but that's limited to gold-heavy maps i guess. also the slav player has to provide the castle age military in that instance.

Its so hard coordinating in team games. Red probably should have gone magyar hussars. If not when the early siege play from T90 was active then definitely when the siege rams showed up. Teching into CA was too time consuming and expensive. Plus teching into a unit that is countered by the same trash unit as your team mate can be rough. Red perhaps could have benefited from some Magyar Hussars early as well despite the gold cost to fend off the rams and even dive the trebs.

Yes and no. He was making boyars, so it still helps with production, and it still denies a lot of maneuverability. But yes, that is the thing to try and do. Arguably MBL just outplayed the other team and not only had enough to make a castle wall, he then had enough to spam boyars like halbs. Purple didn't make enough barracks. He needed to spam halb, and then also they shouldn't have gone for a dual-archer comp. I'd say Magyars in general are not a strong arena civ (the only thing they excel at is raiding, especially early game, and that matters very little in arena).
