Rants got battered by Lee in this debate. How are you sticking to principles that don’t work? Ten Hag experimented with his philosophy in the opening game against Brentford and got battered. That’s when he figured that he needed a more pragmatic approach to the PL. The last time he tried to play more expansive, he got whooped by a ruthless Liverpool side 7-0. Brighton have the technicians to play a possession game but they lack the defenders. They don’t have athletes in the backline like a Pep/Arteta to kill transitions. De Zerbi knows this and continues to play the way he does. Idk if that’s bravery or stupidity. But it sure as hell doesn’t work as we’ve seen with Ten Hag.

Bro a manager lives and dies for his philosophy. Look at someone like van gal, the guy was playing possesion football with kids and players like smalling. Ten hag altered his philosophy to suit inept footballers like bruno and rashford, what kind of results would u expect?

@@akashkhati10 The best approach is to return to a style of football that suits your club. United enjoyed their best success playing speedy wingers with PnP forwards with some tech. Their midfielders were tenacious workhorses that could cover the entire length of the pitch and their defenders were aggressive, front-foot defenders. Trying to go down the positional football route would require too much tinkering - more small, diminutive playmakers that excel in every phase of play e.g. Bernardo Silva, Gundogan, Silva Not only are those generalist profiles super rare but incredibly expensive - esp if you want to play the best positional football around e.g. Odegaard, Silva, Pedri, De Jong, Musiala, Wirtz, Kimmich, Bellingham United have Mount and Bruno- very similar players but don’t have the finesse or intelligence to assist in build-up and second phase or the ability to control games. They’re all output machines e.g. KDB

Liverpool have Darwin Nunez, Salah, Gakpo, Robertson, Diaz, who aren't ballers, and they still win games because they have a system. Havertz, who was our biggest flop at Chelsea, went to Arsenal and fit like a glove in Arteta's system. i'm not a Man Utd BUT you guys need to stop living in the past. those days are over. even Real Madrid, with their amazing players, have a system. Poch isn't a "system" like a Pep or De Zerbi manager, thus why i advocated for him at Chelsea. we have players like Gusto, Reece James, Enzo, Caicedo, Jackson, Palmer, Madueke, etc., who are ballers and they are able to thrive because they are free to express themselves (which Poch implied with his first interview with Chelsea. that football is an expression). he has struck both, system and all players to freely express themselves. that's why you can have a system player like Gallagher to do the dirty work for the team and the ballers can ball. i support 3 teams (Chelsea being my boyhood club, Atletico de Madrid which i started supporting FULLY in 2018 and BVB, Dortmund, which i started supporting in 2018) three teams that play different types of football.

I think both Rants and Lee are correct. Its just what u fancy : attacking football VS calculated winning football. Us Utd fans are so starved of consistent good attacking football that has a distinct style of play that at this point we dont mind going for an Ange Postecoglu type who are going to play high lines and get exposed but play regular beautiful attacking football. Which is why Rants wants De Zerbi because a consistent style of attacking football with money to bring/replace players will eventually make us a better football team to have better results in the long term.
