THE GREAT ELECTRIC QUEST - Seven Years

Images of The Great Electric Quest logo and the Sand-Sculpture Man were taken from The Great Electric Quest facebook page at the time, by permission. The video was made from live concert footage from 3 different performances, provided courtesy of Roy (59CadillacRoller) and Richard Biggs (Biggs Harley Davidson), by permission. Audio recorded and produced, and video edited, by Weird Old Uncle Kenny (my first ever attempt at recording and mixing a studio demo with full band!). This was the fourth of four songs recorded over a 2-day period. The session was scheduled for only 2 songs, but I had instructed the band to have 2 "backup" numbers available in case we ran into any difficulties. As it turned out, the band was super-tight, and I believe they did the basic musical tracks for both primary songs, "Cry of the Wolf" and "Egypt" in single takes, so we decided we might record the backup songs as well, since things were going so smoothly. The 3rd track I recorded, "Superloose" (a song apparently about skateboarding), was used as soundtrack for the promo video for a full-length video, "Green Eggs and Hammers", about "extreme" skateboarding in northern San Diego County that was released by a local skateboard shop that was friends with Tyler.
This song, "Seven Years", was the fourth and final song of the session. I used the same setup that I had used for the other 3 songs, which was rather crude, but somehow worked out pretty well.
I know I could have done a better job recording and mixing, I know a lot more now. Great Electric Quest would later go on to record and release this song on their Chapter 1 LP. Forgive me if I'm a little biased, but I think my demo version sounds a little better than the one on the album. In any case, I'm proud of how good this came out with my VERY limited experience and rather meager equipment.
For this video, I found 3 existing KZbin videos featuring live performances of the song, which with permission of the folks who posted them, I edited together the video footage synchronized to my studio audio track. The opening scene photo of a man made of sand was taken from the Great Electric Quest Facebook page, back at the time. I believe the photo was taken by Mike Hurrin, but I'm not really sure.
Buddy has mentioned once or twice that he believes that his wife, Kerube, may have shot one of the videos I used in making this video. I cannot confirm nor deny this, but I definitely contacted the folks who originally posted the videos, Roy and Rich, who are mentioned above, and they graciously gave me permission to use them in creating this video. Hope you enjoyed it!
