Before I used to think Gatsby's love for Daisy was completely genuine but.. Over time I began to see through the cracks of a fantasy relationship. Sure it started off as a cute little romantic story. But he only idolises her for just an unrealistic perfection to climb 🪜 the high social society. It was more of an idea of greatness rather than real relationship goals.🎆💍🎬💮
@KoriStreamori3 жыл бұрын
@@Bellarose36 it's interesting I actually wrote a thesis paper on this. Daisy loved Gatsby too, but he idealised her way too much. He idealised her to the point of him loosing her actually, not because she didn't love him, but because she realised that he wasn't in love with her, but the idea of her. But Nick as the unreliable narrator that he is of course doesn't catch that. Instead he thinks she doesn't go with Gatsby because she is after Tom's money
@realniggashit33 жыл бұрын
@@Bellarose36 Gatsby was a social climber and a snob. He was ashamed of his humble upbringing and thought marrying a blue-blood old-money girl like Daisy would legitimize him as not just a financial elite, but also a society and cultural elite. He didn't love Daisy. He was a narcissist in love with himself. Ever since he was a kid, he thought he was entitled to money and a well-bred arm candy trophy wife. He was willing to reach his goal by any means necessary, including illegal means. Everything was a means to an ends. Everyone was just a disposable stepping stone.

I think the book did a better job portraying how flawed every character was. Gatsby is a shady man who wanted to be wealthy and have the American dream. Their whole meeting emphasises the beauty and depth of Gatsby’s love, but also it’s destined failure. Gatsby has clearly imagined this moment a thousand times and planned it to perfection, filling the room with flowers, scourging the house clean, but when it comes down to it he freaks out because he is so terrified she will reject him. It’s awkward and painful at first, but they later clearly say what they need to say and reunite lovingly. But the flawed reality as opposed to his perfect dream is embedded in their relationship from the start. It’s always doomed to fail.
