This musical is very flashy, but it doesn’t understand the novel at all. The complexities/decline of the American Dream is lost. Kudos to the designers/actors, they’re killing it. It’s just not a great adaption.

Like so many adaptations they do not respect the original material and want to make it their “own”. Write a new show, I say don’t mess around with a masterpiece and pretend it’s the same story. To be frank, I wasn’t blown away by the unmemorable score either. Still the cast worked hard and the production values were solid enough. But it sure wasn’t the real Great Gatsby.
